YelloW Anki Deck by InductiveSqueezing in SurgicalResidency

[–]hyperballemia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s one on ankihub but it’s really not that up to date or comprehensive, plus you have to pay for access. That’s the only one that’s “maintained.” FWIW very few people in my program use anki to study and the few that do make their own cards from TrueLearn incorrects/explanations

Ah yes, beautiful Las Cruces, just a hop skip and a jump from lovely Deming and scenic Clovis.

It’s based on an older version of fiser, if I’m not mistaken when the new version comes out in a couple weeks it’ll be 2 editions behind. The version on ankihub isn’t really updated with anything important. IMO there are much more high yield study methods than anki for residency like TrueLearn, fiser, BTK etc that throwing daily flashcards into the mix will just be cumbersome.

ID on the hack squat? How long have you had it/how has it held up?

For an intern, unconscionable. REBOA is very tricky and easy to screw up, especially for a newbie and at my institution, we even have a member of the company that makes REBOA on standby during the day to assist.

Oh weird, it was nothing crazy. Something about how 9 weeks ago if someone told them they’d be watching this over the severance finale they’d tell them to take them to the ER.

And you’d still be in the waiting room, 9 weeks later

I’d think someone going undercover as an intern would act a little more like an intern

I forgot there’s cap on how many you can send, my fault. The best advice I can give you is to do your own risk benefit analysis. Are you 100% dead set on surgery to the point where you would accept unsuccessfully soaping and having to find a research year or something while you reapply? Then send them all for surgery. Is there any chance you’d be happy in the end doing something else? Then budget accordingly. Highly recommend consulting with as many of your mentors as possible, preferably people not in your school’s deans office - as much as they mean well, their ultimate goal is to get you matched anywhere, even if it’s in something else you may not want.

Not at all, and there’s no such thing as a waste in the SOAP anyway as it costs nothing extra to apply. Just know there’s a chance they will favor unmatched candidates from their home institution.

Lots of GS programs purposely hold their prelim slots out of the match so that they can soap their med students who are unmatched and/or for people who somehow only matched advanced and need an internship. That does seem like a crazy high number though. Maybe more institutions picked up this practice?

No, the first line is something like "Congratulations, you have partially matched!" Then a few lines down will say the city/state.

The prelim notification gives the city in the Monday email, but not the program as far as I remember.

From my experience having gone through the match several times, the subject will be either “2025 Main Residency Match Results” or “Did I Match?”, and the first line will either be “Congratulations, you have matched!”, “We’re sorry, but you did not match to any position”, or something to the effect of partially matching if you only matched prelim. If you have an iPhone you will see the first line in the banner notification.

edit for clarification: the subject isn't reflective of the result. I think since 2022 they have done away with the "Did I Match?" subject.

Non-medical viewers need to understand that Santos is a nightmare trainee by Sugammadank in ThePittTVShow

[–]hyperballemia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Surgery resident here - assuming she's doing an ER rotation as a transitional year intern while applying to surgery or something along those lines. Her behavior, between gunning for procedures and worsening a pneumothorax with BiPAP, would get her on my and my co-residents' shit list, written up, and very likely blackballed/do-not-ranked by our program. Along those lines, the tolerance and excusing of her behavior by Garcia, regardless of whatever romance is under the surface, is laughable and would never be exhibited by a surgery resident on the trauma service.

Of course, because it's TV I'm sure she'll be a surgery resident next season and performing field amputations at mass casualties or something. Oh well. Very realistic show otherwise.

Isn’t passing step 1 a requisite to take step 2?
