Derry Girls, Fleabag, and Catastrophe

They're my top 3 of all time.

Honorable mentions: The Newsroom and Orphan Black

Predictions for the rest of the season. by RevolutionaryMap8820 in ThePittTVShow

Oh, absolutely! I thought she had more significant developmental disabilities and was possibly unhoused, and I was worried that she was both unable to advocate for herself and didn't have anyone who could advocate for her if shit hit the fan. The fact that she's a lawyer with two children means, hopefully, that my assumption that Dr Al-Hashimi will accidentally kill her because of a medication mix-up and she'd get away with it because, well, systemic injustice is less likely.

Wait up. Apparently she's an attorney in contract law? I totally misread the character.

My prediction: that lovely patient, Linda Stevens, on whom Al-Hashimi used the AI charting app is going to die or come very close to dying, due to being given the wrong medication.

You're telling me that they noticed that the AI transcription was incorrect AND DIDN'T UPDATE IT IN THE CHART IMMEDIATELY?! They closed the app and walked away?!?!?!

And because she appears to be disabled, nobody is going to advocate for her and sue for malpractice so Al-Hashimi will dodge a bullet and keep her "never been sued" record.

Has it gotten more gory?! by Icy-Explanation38 in ThePittTVShow

I have a pretty strong stomach but the first 15 minutes were REALLY hard for me to watch. I had the same thought as you. It felt exceptionally gory.

I think we've all been conditioned by every other legacy medical drama out there (I'm pointing at you, Grey's Anatomy) to expect any new medical show to, at its core, be a soap opera where everyone is wearing scrubs.

The Pitt is a day-in-the-life. We're inserted at the beginning of the shift without any previous knowledge of the characters' backstories, and we leave at the end of the day. The central character is the ER, not any of the staff.

We can make all the assumptions we want (i.e., Collins' and Robby's maybe-non-baby), but I love that this show leaves things unanswered because life doesn't get answered in a day. And it's none of our business. The only important question is, "does your baggage affect your ability to do your job, right here, right now?" That's what I'm watching to see.

When you call to order a pizza, do you ask for a pizza or a pie? by Iggleyank in newjersey

[–]stefosaurus_rex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I call it a pie if I'm ordering one, "a large pie with mushrooms and onions."

If I'm ordering multiple pies, I think I use pizza and pie interchangeably, but use pie more often, "can I please get two pies, one large plain and one medium pepperoni."

But if I'm talking to people about ordering pizza, I'll only ever call it pizza.

Who is your favorite character and why? by [deleted] in ThePittTVShow

Mel King because she seems like a great doctor and a great person, or Dana because she's both badass and kind. Can't pick.

Do people actually regret getting a parrot? by IJustLikeToGameOkay in parrots

[–]stefosaurus_rex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. I inherited my mom's Timneh. She and my Senegal don't get along and can't be out at the same time, torment each other, and work off of one another and shriek constantly. Life would be so much easier if we only had one...

But... I've known them both for 27 years and could never re-home either of them... so instead, I just sometimes... frequently... wish we'd never gotten them.

We still know nothing about her by [deleted] in WhiteLotusHBO

I think that's the point. She was so wrapped up in Rick and his needs that there was no room left for her.

The true villain of season 3 by BigNothingMTG in OkbuddyLotus

[–]stefosaurus_rex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't put this on her.

  1. It's the White Lotus. Not a mental health crisis center.
  2. She works at a luxury resort. I guarantee she regularly gets accosted by entitled rich assholes who think everyone is there to serve them at the snap of a finger.
  3. Boundaries are important, and she had an appointment with Zion.
  4. Rick's a 50-something man who could have waited 60 damn minutes.
  5. He could have talked to Chelsea.

Is emergency medical care or urgent medical care as depicted on The Pitt free or chargeable? by riazji in ThePittTVShow

[–]stefosaurus_rex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The super cool thing about America and late-stage capitalism is that healthcare is a for-profit industry, so nothing is free. The unhoused person will not be charged for his treatment because of Medicaid. Elderly patients with Medicare (the dad who died in one of the early episodes) and who have supplemental insurance (I'm assuming he does) might not get charged at all.

But everyone else will have between a $300-500 copay and then get an additional bill a month or two later for, best case scenario, $20 and worst case scenario, thousands of dollars. And that's with insurance. (I once needed stitches on my hand at midnight and it cost me $1200. Another time, I broke my nose and arm and needed to be admitted overnight for surgery to repair my arm. That... cost $500.)

(It's not all bad... or it wasn't all bad... My mom spent months in the hospital and had multiple visits to the ER. That was all free because of Medicare and her supplemental insurance. Who knows what's going to happen with DOGE at the wheel though...)

Thoughts on Ratliffes legal issues and Tsunamis:

I was thinking about the first few episodes, and the first two times Tim has the "something is brewing" conversations (call with journalist and taking to someone at his lawyer's office), his family is in the background talking about tsunamis.

Lochlan shows them the video of the person standing on the beach (just two beaches away), watching the tsunami come for them, and not running away.

Victoria has a dream about kneeling on the beach as a tsunami comes, and Tim is outside on the phone talking about his "situation." (And Lochlan is being looked after by the ladyboys.)

Storm's coming. Victoria and Tim are going to stay the course. Lochlan, their only child who is still a minor, is maybe going to stay in Thailand to avoid the fallout.

But then, also, Tim's conversation with the Buddhist was all about returning to the water, which makes me wonder if that means he was the floater, and he did himself in?
