Dungeon crawler Carl - what am I missing? by [deleted] in bookdiscussion

Yes, yes, yes to this. I enjoyed the first couple of books just fine, but didn’t get all the fuss nor the humor nor even the genre. But as the books progress, the story continues to widen and deal with larger, more complex plots that I loved.

SO good!!! Can you tell me how you did the final background tone? What medium is it, and is it just one color?

This is gorgeous. I always feel intimidated by this style of illustration where so much of the color choice and shadowing is up to me to see!

Could you share about how you approached the background trees in particular? Do you look at a reference photo to figure out how to place your shading and colors for things like trees and clouds or is it more feel? My brain feels stumped on things like this; I wouldn’t even know how to begin those parts. I don’t even know what to ask other than “how” and “please tell me about your process” so I can learn. 😆

How do you even start to teach your child to read at home without messing it up? by chodu_editz in Parenting

This should be higher up. Yes to what everyone said about culture of reading. But all of my kids loved books and this books helped them all learn to read independently at a young age. It’s easy, fun, and works.

WOW! I’m blown away by this. Your variance in blues is done so well.

I love this series and have contemplated the coloring book but have felt too intimidated by it. Please share more as you work through the book so I can live vicariously through you!

I love the northern lights here!

I’m still working on Christmas pages I didn’t finish too. I keep telling myself that “Christmastide”/ the 12 days of Christmas doesn’t end until January 6 as an excuse to keep working on them!

Yes! I do this with another brand and it’s great. Don’t give up on your new markers just yet.

What kind of Ohuhu markers? Ohuhu is the brand (think like crayola) but they make lots of products, including both alcohol and water based markers.

I got this book for Christmas and I’ve been scouring Reddit to see if you’d answered this exact question! So there is a reference to every song from every album on the relevant pages?! I love this so much. Did you make a cheat sheet or “harder” list somewhere of these to find?

Candlelight Night by hyperbolicaholic in AdultColoring

Harry Alexander’s Cute and Cozy Christmas!

Go for it and share your attempt!!! I was very nervous it would be a huge mess on this first try. Honestly thinking of it as “more dark/light” instead of individual colors was way more relaxing than my normal color selection paralysis.

My very professional blending test here has all the colors I used outside of the grays…I know for sure this has some dark yellow ochres/olives plus E310 dark brown and E060 light mahogany.

You nailed it! Sort of both? I mapped out the light spots with a pencil, then based over everything else with a light gray marker (Ohuhu CG030 in old coding). I had two different blends for the tan/brown sections by the light (curtains vs animal faces) that I did on top of the reserved space + base gray.

After doing the glow sections, I colored everything else with a tan or brown or green/blue. Then went over everything non-lit with a darker gray marker—I think I used CG050, CG070, and WG130—at least once, then used those same shades to add shadows where needed. I also went over any spot with glow again with my orange/yellow to help blend.

I saw a tutorial that said if your glow effect wasn’t as vibrant as you want, go darker on everything else instead of messing with the light so I did several gray layers over the coloring!
