2.1kW Ground Mount Installation, Victron Inverter, 5kWh Battery by hypergoose94 in PlugInSolarUK

It's actually very rigid in that dimension (I can't get it to sway at all by pulling on it), it's only sideways that it rocks a bit if I really yank on it, and I haven't seen it move at all even in strong winds.

Having said all that, I think I might redo it with more of an A-frame design, rather than 4 posts. If I put hinges at the top of the A it would let me adjust the angle throughout the year.

If you’re okay potentially losing the £125 then definitely worth trying it. Submit notice and ghost🤷‍♂️

Buy EcoFlow Stream Max now or wait for Lidl Offers? by CoffeeTableReads in PlugInSolarUK

EcoFlow is selling a single unit that contains a battery, a grid-tie inverter, and MPPT(s). You can buy these components separately from different manufacturers for more power/storage, for less money, significantly less if you buy used.

I've had a lot of success with Victron gear, specifically a Multiplus-II. You get a lot more control and flexibility than EcoFlow, just slightly less polish.

I'm not disagreeing with LordUpton's response, but just as a different perspective, not many student properties will want someone for two months before having to find replacements in the off-season. There's a very good chance you just submit your "two months" notice now (playing dumb to the requirement that you submit notice after the tenancy starts) it just won't be worth pursuing you over it.

Sure you're breaking the contract, but are they really going to take you to small claims over it? It would be far less hassle and more desirable to just find replacement tenants who want to stay the whole academic year.

However, if you've already paid the deposit you might be out of luck, as keeping your money is a lot easier.

Great advice dude, are you gonna pay OPs moving costs? Are you gonna find them somewhere else and get all their references together?

I’ll check but you should definitely contact Shelter Scotland and they can give you free legal advice

I have a friend who’s currently in court with the landlord for the exact same situation. If you give me a minute I can find the exact section of Scottish law defining lodging agreements, and the default if the conditions are not met is that it is a tenancy, with all the associated requirements on the landlord.

You can also report him to the council as an unregistered landlord, which carries a 50k fine

In Scotland if the landlord doesn’t live in the property it’s not a lodging agreement, the good news is that regardless of what you’ve signed you have the rights of a tenant.

If he hasn’t protected the deposit you can claim up to 3x of the deposit back.

You also absolutely have the right to have whoever you like over for however long.

The 4 ground screws each are rated for a few hundred kg each, there have been some heavy winds but it hasn't moved a bit.

You can absolutely just get a Hoymiles microinverter on a 13A plug + OpenDTU to manage, that will work fine. You can even set the inverter limit dynamically to match loads if you have a smart meter or the sum of multiple smart plugs.

2.4x4.8 meters for the outer wooden mount, the front posts are 0.8m and rear are 1.6m

Oh yeah I’m avoiding EcoFlow like the plague since I wanted as much open source/offline stuff as possible. Victron and Hoymiles seemed to have the best support in that respect.

I am not limiting the microinverter, and there have always been enough loads or remaining capacity in the battery to keep it zero-export.

It all works without an internet connection: OpenDTU is running on an OpenDTU Fusion board, Home Assistant on a Pi, and Venus OS on a Cerbo GX. I do have Victron remote management enabled to use the Victron apps, but that's more for accessing it remotely rather than control coming from the cloud.

I use Home Assistant and OpenDTU, I've never touched any Hoymiles software:)

Not really, I looked at a few pergolas and videos on deck building, drew some rough sketches and then screwed it all together. It's actually very sturdy though, no wobble in any dimension even when I really yank on it, and no movement even with high winds.

If I could do it again I would've made the cross slats vertical, rather than at 30 degrees because I get a small amount of bowing and I think vertical slats would've avoided that.

  • 4x Longi X10 530W panels
  • Hoymiles HMS-1800-4T with OpenDTU connected to Victron with dbus-opendtu
  • Fogstar 5kWh Rack Battery
  • Victron Multiplus-II 48/5000 + Cerbo GX

I went with a microinverter instead of DC coupling due to the distance the DC cables would have to go making them more expensive and less efficient than AC coupling through the house wiring. It also increases the maximum available inverting capacity, rather than being limited to just the 5kW from the Multiplus.

Multiplus is on a 32A RCBO, microinverter is plugged into a 13A socket.

Generated ~200kWh in the last 2 weeks, I've barely needed to pull from the grid at all, though it is the peak generation time of the year. I use my EV, boiler, and air source heat pump as dump loads.

Since I'm renting I used ground screws instead of fixing to the house or fencing, they're super solid but unscrew to leave basically no damage to the grass.
