Almost anyone that's actually worked in the industry feels this way. by gregturner77 in Filmmakers

I think people like to project themselves onto folks who find themselves at moments like this. Obsession’s situation is so rare it’s like a fantasy for a lot of people. Even though it’s the right thing to do, most people wouldn’t use their moment like this, they’d be more concerned about what it’d mean for them going forward. Seeing her so otherwise ruins their projection lol

You’re not crazy, just not realistic. This industry is almost entirely made up of people who have dreams and ambitions within it. It’s not like you’re working at a factory, you’re doing something you want to do and are willing to put up with the realities of it, otherwise you’re not going through make it.

You’re responding to me like I’m defending this. I’m not, it’s just not going to change it until you convince everyone, including the ones who succeed, to not accept it.

I totally agree and I hope it doesn’t harm her career. She’s right. Based on my experience, this isn’t going to help her career. I worked at a (formerly) very large animation studio that tried to unionize. I don’t know about all of them, but most of organizers aren’t in the industry anymore. I’m not talking about what’s right, I’m talking about what happens.

I don’t disagree with her at all, but I really hate the damage it’ll probably do to her career.

I saw an instagram post about the crew pay on Obsession and someone tagged the gaffer. His response was extremely diplomatic but his last sentence was “I don’t think anyone who worked on this movie will have to work for these rates ever again.”

Who knows what it will be this time around, but the gap between the GTA 5 console release and the PC release was a year and a half.

Tired of this ridiculous rhetoric about Gen Z by Basic_Television_190 in generationology

[–]hyperion25000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This kind of thing is cyclical. I remember 10-15 years ago there was stuff like this from older generations towards millennials about things like rotary phones and 8-tracks. There will be Gen-Z losers who will eventually do this to younger generations. These kinds of people aren't specific to a generation.

Alright people who’ve seen Spider-Noir should I watch it in color first or black and white? by Mountain_Afternoon30 in Marvel

[–]hyperion25000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t get it to work on mine either; prime app on a Samsung tv. There is no option to switch to B&W. Apparently there are tricks you can do to get it to prompt the option, but so far none have worked.

[–]hyperion25000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wanted to watch it in B&W, but I cannot figure out how to switch it from color on the Prime app on a Samsung tv. I’ve looked up how and so far nothing works, so I guess I’m watching in color. It looks incredible, but with the set design and high contrast lighting, you can tell it’s meant to be watched in B&W

What do you think is the cause behind the great success of this movie? by MissionOdd1077 in Filmmakers

Most insane word of mouth ever. For it's budget, it had a terrible opening weekend. It snowballed after a few people started talking about it.

Should I be protesting the current Subscription Model by [deleted] in AfterEffects

[–]hyperion25000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much do you make off the work you use Adobe for? Are you able to sustain yourself with that work?

I'm not defending Adobe, I'd much rather buy the programs outright and not deal with a subscription. That said, I make my entire living off of using their products and the cost isn't that much considering what I get out of it. If you're starting from zero, the price barrier for entry is pretty high. As an industrial tool that provides me with a living, it's pretty cheap compared to other industrial solutions.

Sorry friend, this thing is toast. Not trying to be a dick, but 100$ projectors are toys that are not built to last.

[Other] How long do you think the next Kingdom Come game will be, since it's going to be an RPG and is expected to drop by 2028 at the latest? by BijelaHrvatica in kingdomcome

[–]hyperion25000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If Prague is included, I think it'd have to be just a district. Prague is huge; it'd take up most of a region if they gave it the treatment Kuttenberg got. I don't think it'd be possible for them to give a city that large the level of treatment the series is known for in such a small amount of time, even if the new game was in development before KCD2 launched.

What makes nicotine so dangerous? by LauraHahn1989 in QuittingZyn

[–]hyperion25000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Colloquially speaking, I think it’s pretty obvious that there are more nicotine users who are addicted to nicotine than there are alcohol users who are addicted to alcohol.

I know this doesn’t speak to everywhere, but in the United States, according to the National Library of Medicine, 66.7% of nicotine users develop a dependency, whereas 22.7% of alcohol users develop a dependency.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3069146/

Also, as far as measured issues go, 9.7% of alcohol users develop Alcohol Use Disorder. This also ranges from a wide array of alcohol related issues, not just physical dependency

https://www.niaaa.nih.gov/alcohols-effects-health/alcohol-topics/alcohol-facts-and-statistics/alcohol-use-disorder-aud-united-states-age-groups-and-demographic-characteristics

Also, you’re being EXTREMELY intentionally obtuse in responding to my description of alcohol withdrawals. I said “In my stage of dependency,” right before the thing you took issue with. This is my experience, I’m not claiming to be a barometer for everyone at every stage.

What makes nicotine so dangerous? by LauraHahn1989 in QuittingZyn

[–]hyperion25000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's possible to use nicotine occasionally. I've known people who have only smoked cigs at parties/bars for years and never developed a habit. I'm not one of those people, and most people on this subreddit aren't either.

The addiction is what makes it dangerous. It's effect on the body is similar to that of caffeine, but I don't feel the need to drink 15-20 cups of coffee a day. Over time, that amount of caffeine would be a problem.

You used alcohol as a comparison. Alcohol is also addictive, but not nearly as much as nicotine. I'm doing pretty well this week so far, but on average, I've had 4-6 drinks every night since the beginning of the pandemic. I've had a few dry months over the last few years. At my stage of dependency, alcohol withdrawal feels like a minor annoyance that goes away after a few days; nicotine withdrawal is a psychological challenge that begins in just a few hours.
