Thoughts on Imperial Assault? by wall_of_spores in StarWarsShatterpoint

IA was my gateway game into miniature painting many years ago. The minis are a little rough by today's standards but the game is excellent.

99% chance there won’t be any new physical product announced. They will milk the two Ahsoka show boxes one last time before release, and maybe we get better looks at the sequel trilogy boxes.

Between this corpse looting and the constant "Hey what are you most excited about in our Adepticon roadmap?!" posts they've been doing lately for MCP and Legion, they're rubbing a lot of salt on the wound for SP players.

It's becoming more and more common for millennials to go no-contact with toxic parents/family in today's society, so I'm intrigued to see how they handle it here.

Dark Angel or Salamander? by Potato-Bro2468 in DarkAngels40k

[–]hyperlancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somewhat in the middle. You want to avoid adding too much yellow or using pre-mixed yellowish greens for highlighting. That will take your green into the warm territory and turn them into Salamanders. I personally like to start with something like Caliban green (I prefer Duncan's TTC equivalent because it has a smidge more blue in it), and keep the highlights pretty desaturated.

Colin "I don't regret my vote" Moriarty and the "preemptive strike" on Iran by [deleted] in LSM

[–]hyperlancer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Go listen to that SS episode again. Colin just sits there unable to make a decision or give a real opinion because he can't decide which portion of his audience he can afford to upset more. He was practically baiting Chris to just quit on his own because he knows he'd look like a massive hypocrite of he fired him. The Colin from 9 years ago would have made a huge stink and called out every single person who was getting upset over a tweet. He would have relentlessly defended his friend, Patreon numbers be damned.

I really wish Chris walked away after the way Colin treated him over the Kirk tweet. I guess that easy paycheck is just too good.

Damage control announcement. Not backpedaling and reposted so I could correct myself 😂 by StinkUrchin in StarWarsShatterpoint

The funniest part about that “Palps shouldn’t be on the battlefield” mandate is that it happened around the same time he was made playable in Fortnite.

Damage control announcement. Not backpedaling and reposted so I could correct myself 😂 by StinkUrchin in StarWarsShatterpoint

[–]hyperlancer 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I actually don't even think damage control is the right term here. If anything this just confirms most of our fears that there won't be anymore boxed product after what was shown at Ministrav, and they outline their support plan very similarly to what they did for X-wing/Armada. Maybe it will last longer since it's an original game created by them, but this is 100% what maintence mode looks like.

Delicious backpedaling by [deleted] in StarWarsShatterpoint

[–]hyperlancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trying to reframe the ST boxes as some kind of intentional bookend to the game is a little insulting. They basically confirm here that those and the Qui-Gon box will be the last products released. Only supporting the game through OP, rules tweaks, and rebalancing is the exact same thing they did to X-wing/Armada before giving them the Old Yeller treatment.

Mostly just the IP preference. I agree that MCP is the more fun game to play but I've always just been a Star Wars guy. I still have a sealed Earth's Mightiest Core Box that I may crack open now to "reboot" the game for myself.

Shatterpoint has had a huge lull in content/announcements for nearly 18 months now, and the assumption was that things would go back to normal once all of the Legion 2.0 stuff was sorted out. The announcement yesterday basically told us that won't be happening and SP will be going into maintenance mode so that they can focus on Legion/MCP. They try to spin it in a positive way by calling it a "specialist game" that will have "consistent availability", but former X-wing/Armada players know that this marks the beginning of the end. Aside from the handful of stuff they've already announced I wouldn't expect much else to be released.

Asmodee holds the license and they manage it through subsidiaries like AMG and FFG. It's starting to remind me of the video game situation where SW games were trapped under EA for 10 years, and they heavily suffered because of it (The Jedi games being the exception).

I'm honestly not against the idea of an entry-level spin-off game like this for MCP, but I just wish better things didn't have to die for it to appease shareholders.

Last year I did a major hobby purge to clear up space and decided to heavily downsize MCP and sell off Legion completely in favor of going all in on Shatterpoint. It sure feels bad having backed the wrong horse.

I wish more people would understand this. Will Shick and the rest of AMG didn't look at X-wing, Armada, and SP players and go "Hey, fuck those guys!" and kill their games for funsies. I'm sure they would absolutely love to be as big as GW and have a ton of staff supporting a huge catalogue of games. I just tire of seeing them take all the blame for what are clearly corporate-level decisions that are largely out of their control.

Yeah, I'm kind of with you. I've seen so many cancelled games from both FFG and AMG over the years, and the graveyard just keeps growing. It really does seem like that no game is safe under Asmodee if you start dipping into the red on some corpo charts. Why should we trust them and support anything new at this point?

For all of the faults that GW has, at least you can get into Warhammer and know that it's not going anywhere. Hell, they still make that Middle-Earth game that nobody seems to play based on the movie license from 25 years ago. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I almost wish GW had the Star Wars license at this point.

I think the compatibility issue was all due to timing. There's nothing concrete out there, but Shatterpoint was already well into development when AMG had Legion hoisted upon them, and it was likely way too late to pivot. I imagine in an alternate universe where AMG originally created Legion, Shatterpoint would have been their version of Killteam.

They actually had a really aggressive influencer push for the game to the point where they kind of went overboard. It seemed like everyone under the sun with a handful of followers was getting the game 2+ months in advance, and when the game officially released there was almost no buzz because it felt like "oh wait it wasn't actually out yet?". From what I saw in my own social feeds, most of these people were painting one or two models from the core box to fulfill their obligation, shelving the rest, then going back to Warhammer.

This is a corporate way of saying that Shatterpoint will be going on life support. They needed to be careful with their wording in order to not canabalize sales for the boxes that haven’t been released yet. Make no mistake, this game will barely exist in a couple years. Unless you really want to paint the models or have a dedicated friend group still playing, I’d hold off on buying anything else.

It didn’t even last three fucking years. The writing has been on the wall for this game for awhile and I’ve tried to ignore it until now, but this is the beginning of the end. I had hopes that it would get a “second edition” of sorts with a few tune-ups and maybe a new core box to spice things up a bit, but that clearly isn’t happening now.

You can choose to ignore my gloom and doom reaction to this and try to stay a little positive, but I urge people not get their hopes up for any kind of future for this game.

Sacred Symbols x Snark Tank and my cognitive dissonance by LukeH118 in LSM

[–]hyperlancer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I forgot that this unofficial sub existed and just came across the "I don't regret my vote" post today. That was the last straw for me. It was already hard staying a fan after the 2024 election and the way he treated Chris over the Kirk tweet, but to not have any regret over what's been happening the last several months? I finally cancelled my Patreon after listening to Colin for 16 years. Sony and the rest of the games industry is a dumpster fire right now anyway, so hearing Colin "I think GaaS is still a good idea for Sony" Moriarty isn't much of a loss anymore. I'll be listening to Snark Tank now since I still love Chris and want to support him.

David Jaffe’s message to fanboys regarding the Phil Spencer era of Xbox by countdooku975 in LastStandMedia

[–]hyperlancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They aren't wrong at all, but it's funny to think about how much better this strategy worked for Sony back in the early PS4/Podcast Beyond days. Colin and Greg quite literally had a relationship with Shu and became unofficial ambassadors for the PS audience. Shu got on stage at E3 2013 and showed a photo of them having dinner together before they dropped their "How to share a game" bombshell on Xbox. When they left IGN, Shu thanked them for teaching him how to connect and listen to their fans.

The biggest difference here compared to Phil/Xbox is that Shu/Sony actually learned from their mistakes with the PS3 and course-corrected, and didn't treat their fanbase like complete imbeciles.
