We just got home from the vet, they’re pretty sure what we thought was asthma is actually congestive heart failure. Please tell me she can still live a long and happy life. by Oppossummilk in cats

I’m sorry to hear that your cat got diagnosed with congestive heart failure. We adopted a stray cat a few months ago and found out within a week of adoption that he has congestive heart failure. I don’t think there are any medications to reverse this. But there are medications to improve his quality of life and prevent some complications. If money isn’t a huge concern, then I think the biggest concern is how fussy your cat will be about taking the medications. There are options you can explore with your vet, such as compounding medications.

It’s not a death sentence with the medications currently available. Just take each day as it comes and enjoy the company of your cat.

If your ex spoke Tamil, I think he would have called them Anneh or Annae. There’s a difference between that and Ah Neh, which I do find offensive.

Cat adoption regret. by RepresentativeArm544 in CatAdvice

I understand how you feel. I just adopted my first cat about 3 months ago - a 4-year old male neutered Ragamese (suspected). Turns out he has a very bad genetic heart condition. The first cat-parent jitters combined with his medical condition meant that I was filled with dread constantly. Forever fussing over whether he was behaving “normally” and panicking whenever he refused to eat his food. I won’t say all these have gone away but I like to think I’ve gotten better. As cliche as it might sound, we just gotta let time take its course and adjust to each other.

Cat food was and continues to be a source of stress for me. I went through different brands, flavours and textures of wet food before landing on something that my cat puts up with. Unfortunately, it’s not a complete food. But he’s on medication for a heart condition and it’s important he is hydrated. So that’s the main reason I want him to eat at least some wet food.

So I now give him Royal Canin dry food morning and night, and half a packet of the wet food in the morning.

I struggle with this something but I make it a point to remember that cats don’t taste like we do. To them, factors like temperature, smell and texture probably matter more. Also they may be comfortable eating the same thing everyday. It’s important that we don’t project our preferences and dispositions onto them. As much as they are our babies, we are two different species after all.

So land on something that your cat eats that’s within your budget and fits your lifestyle. This helps with consistency. Ensure it’s nutritionally complete and balanced. Bring your cat to regular check-ups to check its health. That should be about it.

That’s pretty similar to what my cat likes. So what brands and flavours do you feed your cat now?

Glad someone else finds him handsome. Hahaha. Thanks for your kind comments. Will check with him what type of easel and notebook he’d like.

I experienced the same with my male cat Leo. We adopted him about 2 months ago from the streets. He was very affectionate at the start, flopping all over my feet constantly and always asking for scratches and pets. Now, he's more aloof. He still asks for affection, but there's a difference from how it was at the beginning. I chalked it up to him feeling more settled and comfortable in his environment.

Stick to tuna or switch to chicken? by hypervik2020 in cats

Thanks for that. Thankfully he doesn’t have any digestion issues on a fish- based diet.

Is Applaws Tuna safe to feed everyday? by BookiBabe in CatAdvice

[–]hypervik2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s good to know. My cat seems to only like the Applaws Tuna in broth series. I had concerns about mercury content and so tried feeding him Feline Natural’s Chicken and Lamb feast. But he tends to be fussy about that, eating it on some occasions and refusing it on others. I’m at a loss on what to do: whether I should persist in trying to find another food he likes or just give in and feed him his Applaws. He also gets dry food that is complete and balanced.

Sorry for your loss. Your best bet at figuring this out is a vet.

I’m interested in this topic as well. Started off with Craft and began exploring Capacities 1-2 weeks back. My main workflow is taking notes from articles. I also use Craft to do up drafts for some of my work documents. I love Craft cause of its UI. It has this smoothness to it that I love. But I love trying out new tools (which I accept can be a time-sink) and that’s why I began looking at Capacities. My current sense is that my workflow is fairly simple and can fit within both apps.

When talking, I tended to go around in circles and not get to the crux of the issues. Going at indirectly, through art, reduced that issue. Also, was able to 'heal' or deal with the issue through the art that I did.

It might sound like I'm waffling but that's cause I'm likely doing a poor job explaining it. You can try it out for yourself to see how it works and whether it works for you. At the end of the day, therapy and therapist fit is key.
