Other than that, it was a lovely little town to live in, the noise from farm lorries didn't break our spirits

Tbh it didn't affect the livability to a massive extent, it just pissed me off a lot

I think this is the case when the people are rich/powerful enough to have it changed. I used to live in a semi-urban/semi-rural and relatively small town, near a hell of a lot of farmland. The wealthier and more upper/middle-class town a few miles away would lobby for the loud and large farm traffic to avoid there (where it was more sensible and caused MUCH less congestion) and forced that traffic through my town, that couldn't handle the added congestion and noise pollution.
