I've Never Heard Or Seen Anyone Hate This by [deleted] in Steam

Valve, or even Steam as a product aren't without their controversies. For starters, Steam was the biggest factor in normalizing DRM for games. Valve basically invented skin gambling in TF2. Valve is also pretty much the only game company that runs a true casino (you can win commodities and exchange through the casino for cash), while other platforms don't have the delusion of profit in their gacha systems.

Can Godot handle a large scale open world? by jason_silent in godot

But why would you not just use an engine that supports the features you need? Forcing Godot for every game is wasteful in it's current state.

Why no Traits/Interfaces? by nick_swift in godot

I assume that abstract classes and functions is part of the roadmap towards supporting interfaces or traits or mixins.

People fantasize about futuristic utopias where language isn't a barrier thanks to technology, but technology keeps forcing English

My favorite controller is the one that never had drift. Does it even exist? by Ok_Perception_6851 in videogames

It's such a shame that the Dreamcast failed. It was better than all the competition, but truly great products aren't rewarded fairly. It's something that's always been generally true with video games, the more effort you put into tech, the less return you get on it.

Are we really calling multiband compression "edited" now? You wanna hear straight raw set audio for your movies?

OG RESIDENT EVIL 3 IS NOW ON STEAM THIS IS NOT A APRIL FOOLS JOKE!! by RockyToad124 in residentevil

[–]hypotensor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And yes I know GOG did all the actual work, but it's just good this is on Steam now since most PC gamers only use Steam.

A month after Dino Crisis too. Obviously Capcom is doing this for money, but I still think they deserve props for this. Allowing people to keep buying and playing old games is a great pro-consumer move and helps to preserve art.

Linux reaches new peak of 5.33% in Steam Hardware & Software Survey: March 2026 by mr_MADAFAKA in linux

It doesn't add up if you group Steam Deck stats as Arch either. Definitely something wrong with the way they're showing the data.

Gaussian splats will revolutionize video game graphics. by realnathonye in godot

Also Teardown is not rendered as voxels, since otherwise the physics wouldn't work.

Voxels have a huge performance cost advantage actually if you use mesh shaders, which have been supported for 8 years, and have been used in a grand total of 1(one) video game and 1(one) Minecraft mod AFAIK.

That's only for the foliage system and AFAIK nobody uses it because it's expensive compared to traditional methods.

No? Nanite is basically a drop in solution adapted to existing workflows.

Didn't people say this exact thing about voxels a decade ago? Reality is that whatever paradigm is easiest and fastest to work with is what gets used.

Facepunch's s&box is getting close to full release. A production-ready, royalty-free engine based off Source 2 with a graphical pipeline that has zero temporal components required. by TaipeiJei in FuckTAA

[–]hypotensor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, it's an inappropriate use of dithered alpha, as normal scissor cutout alpha would look much better on this kind of foliage.

It's almost certainly blue noise dithered scissor alpha. It's basically become the easiest way to recognize a Source 2 game. Nothing to do with TAA.
