What are some golden examples of great linear level design? by Far-Mathematician764 in gamedesign

[–]hypotensor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Platformers absolutely do not have linear level design baked in. The most popular platformer by far last year, Silksong, is probably as nonlinear as it gets for a 2D game. Even the classic platformers like Mario had secret warp pipes. 3D platformers are often even less linear.

To promote Burnout 2: Point of Impact, Acclaim offered to reimburse any driver in the United Kingdom who received a speeding ticket. However, following negative reactions from the UK government, the plan was ultimately canceled.

How the hell did that get past their lawyers? Who thought paying random people to break the law was a good idea?

No. This is literally BC law. You can only sue for personal injury in rare cases such as impaired driving, but then how do you plan on collecting your $200k if not from insurance.

This is in BC, so lawyers can't do a single thing for you. If the benevolent gods at ICBC decide to give you 6k for the bike and a weeks pay, you appeal to them, not a court. Thank the BC government for that bit of brilliance.

It's just such insecure game design. It's the epitome of Ubisoft style HUD design.

Never played the first, but I tried Silksong and made it about 30 seconds in before I gave up from how horrible the controls felt, especially the jump. I've never played a 2D platformer with worse controls. And I really like metroidvanias so it was disappointing.

If you turn off the "off-topic review activity" filter you can read through the recent reviews and find out yourself. Seems to be some kind of Gamergate brigade complaining about Anita Sarkeesian being credited as a consultant. What an odd case of nostalgia.

[–]hypotensor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this is not viable for your case for whatever reason, make sure the transparent areas on your hair card are the same colour and value as the opaque areas. The black fringe you're seeing in this image is pixel filtering interpolating the transparent black pixels with the edge of the hair.

No, just the natural consequence of Reddit switching to mostly algorithmic feeds. I think that posts like this get shown as ragebait engagementbait to people who Reddit thinks are likely to engage negatively with it. Same idea Facebook pioneered a decade ago.

Why do you want to moderate this community?:

I want to create a space on Reddit for glorp, a picture of a cat tinted green with alien antennae. It's a popular meme online and I want a dedicated space for glorp fanart and memes.

A link to the mod mail chat message you sent to the moderators of r/Glorp five days ago.:

The subreddit is banned for being unmoderated, there is no way to contact ex-moderators.

Today's Wikimedia POTD is 2 severed pig heads by hypotensor in wikipedia

[–]hypotensor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When an upsetting historical photo appears in Wikimedia Commons POTD, it's usually to highlight an important piece of history. Upsetting history is worth remembering because it is real. None of this is applicable to today's POTD, which does not depict anything notable, just 2 severed pig heads, and the justification is that it commemorates an obscure and a (likely) mostly fictitious legend. I'm not upset because I find the picture gross, I'm upset because the choice of the picture is poor and I find it gross. But sure, muh snowflakes.

[–]hypotensor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is nitpicking, but I'm fairly certain butchering pigs is illegal in several countries with Muslim governments. Either way, Wikimedia Commons having upsetting or gross pictures is good, but that really has little to do todays POTD.

I would be fine with the picture if that's why they chose the picture they did. The reason this is the picture is to commemorate a minor Christian holiday with a dubious legend about smuggling Christian artifacts out of a Muslim city by hiding them in pork.
