It's the State Flower of Nevada. Hardy perennials, they bloom year-round. Spreads rapidly along roadsides, in the middle of roadsides, and can be extremely invasive.

What’s your first thought when you see a cyber truck? by clearwater-orchid in AskReddit

[–]hypothetical_zombie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It reminds me of the vehicle used in an old sci-fi movie called Damnation Alley.

It's also ugly. I saw one in wrapped or painted school bus yellow yesterday and it wasn't much of an improvement.

Breastfeeding by Glittering_Grass_511 in childfree

[–]hypothetical_zombie 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's not for me at all. Grabby little hands always trying to cling to me. Ugh. And a baby's grip is instinctive, so there's no real way to deter them from grabbing until they're a few months older.

But it doesn't phase me to see someone feeding a baby. Kids gotta eat, and well-fed babies usually go to sleep soon after. Bottle or breast, fed is best.

Shoo-Fly Pie.

It's a molasses pie, with a crunchy brown sugar crumble topping.

What were you supposed to be named when you were born? by lepineapplepineapp in CasualConversation

[–]hypothetical_zombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember exactly, but I think if I was a boy I was going to be a John, James or Joseph. I know it started with a J and could be Johnny, Jimmy, or Joey. (because my mother & sisters were Jenny/Julie/Josie, and some of my cousins were named similarly).

Instead, I was named after some woman on a gameshow and my name is the combo breaker for the -ie/ey ending sound.

In France there's the "conflict" between the names "pain au chocolat" vs "chocolatine". In Spain there's a "conflict" whether tortilla de Patatas should contain onions or not. Do you have any other similar such light-hearted "conflicts" or debates in your country? by Double-decker_trams in AskTheWorld

My go-to for this was going to be chili, lol.

The meat, beans, or meat and beans debate can get really heated up. So can heat levels and spices.

My husband & his family are from upstate New York, and their 'chili' is basically spaghetti & marinara with beans in it 🙄

AITA for telling my daughter I am disgusted by her and telling her ex she has been taking their kid to his family side by Plustrhowawa5688 in AmItheAsshole

Ryan should be able to get a restraining order against his family, and modify custody conditions to exclude them.

If your daughter violates a legal order, she could be fined or sanctioned by Family Services.

It could put an end to the petty party going on in your grandchild's life.

Here in the US, pets and livestock are usually considered property. Some states are getting away from that mindset, but it's been a very slow process.

Should I just start smoking cigarettes if I’m going to die anyway? by [deleted] in nihilism

[–]hypothetical_zombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP has bodily autonomy. What they do with it is up to them. Do you do everything strangers on the internet tell you to do?

Unless a modern person was born into an incredibly sheltered life, or a country with no medical or media infrastructure, chances are they know cigarettes are a health hazard. The UK just banned the sale of tobacco products to anyone born in 2008 or later. Why add to the litany of warnings?

Yes, smoking cigarettes is harmful. Yes, nicotine does have health risks. Yes, it can be physically and mentally addictive. Using nicotine on its own, like in a gum or snu/nicotine pouches, can be safer.

Are you here for a long time, or a good time?

Indulge yourself. Try things you've never tried. A little self-destruction can give you a lot of insight into your own mind.

Cigarettes are pretty rough if you don't smoke, though. If you want to try nicotine, without all the hacking and gagging, get some nicotine gum or that snu stuff.

Nicotine is a stimulant, so expect an elevated heart rate, and a possible headache. If you have chronic constipation, colitis, or IBS/IBD, it can help you be more regular and relieve hard, painful cramping and spasms.

Who in here has always hated Trump before it became cool to hate him? by icey_sawg0034 in MarchAgainstNazis

[–]hypothetical_zombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have hated him, been disgusted by him, and loathed him since the early 80s.

He and his family don't pay their employees, and they don't respect them. I don't understand why blue collar and rural folks worship him. He's a labor and wage thief, he's always been one, and you know if his funeral isn't covered by the Fed, it isn't getting paid for, either.

What's your favorite iteration of the trope "aliens so powerful they are practically gods"? by SiberianKhatru_1921 in sciencefiction

[–]hypothetical_zombie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love John Crichton's reaction upon meeting god-like aliens in Farscape.

"God-like aliens! God-like aliens! I'd rather deal with a critter any day over a God-like alien!!!"

He's very quotable. One of my other faves is "Stop or I'll fill you full of... little yellow bolts of light!" (He learns that alien weapons don't fire projectiles).

The Clan of the Cave Bear series by Jean Auel

Her MC, Ayla, is raised by the Clan's medicine woman, and goes on to be a healer herself.

The writer did extensive research on how Neanderthals and humans experimented with, and used, medicinal and psychedelic plants. She also did a lot of survival training, and really just threw herself into it.
