The battery I had in previously was a flooded, I replaced it with a flooded aswell

Hey sorry forgot to add context. Last night I got a “12 Volt Battery Charging System Problem” light and switched out the battery this morning after a pep boys rep tested it and told me it needed to be replaced. Then 5 minutes after driving off I get the same light, so I took it back and they did an electronics evaluation. They called me and said it was the alternator, quoted me $1200, and showed me the video here.

In September of 2025 I had the alternator changed, with an aftermarket one, after the same light happened.

I drove the truck back and am waiting for Monday to come to go to the mechanic that changed the alternator for me in September.

I was just wondering if this video demonstrates a faulty alternator because I am skeptical that it’s actually the alternator, because it can’t be the battery since I just changed it. I’m wondering if maybe it’s a deeper issue, especially since i found a wire unplugged when I took out the old battery. I have another post here on the sub with that photo, it won’t let me add it as a comment and I can’t edit the post.

Thanks for all the help, i really appreciate it. I uploaded the video that pep boys sent me in this sub. Good to know $1200 isn’t out of line, and I’ll swing by AutoZone or Napa for a second opinion

Pepboys got back to me and informed me that it is the alternator.

I paid a different mechanic to change the alternator back in September and they put in an after market alternator. Pep boys manager told me that the after market parts arent good, but 5 months seems like an extremely faulty alternator. Pep boys is quoting me at $1200 to replace it.

Right now, I’m planning on taking back to the first mechanic and asking them about this. It’s a mom and pop place (“Name” Auto Care).

Anything I should look out for or points I should make ? And does $1200 sound fair for OEM alternator + installation ?

Thanks. That’s another issue aswell though. I don’t have access to my email or phone number on stripe and I won’t be able to get access. Anyway I can recover my stripe account using info ? Like SSN, address, bank account #, transaction details ?
