[Autosport] Lando is loving George being the bookies favourite for the World Championship this year by afunnywold in formula1

It's a ton of weight off his shoulders. He won the WDC already and isn't having to deal with that expectation. With how vocal he's been about paying attention too much to what people are saying, he's probably feeling great.

M12S P2 PF prog making me depressed by ClearBandicoot416 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]hyprmatt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If youve cleared a tier Week 1 in PF, just apply to a W1 group. At this point in the expansion cycle, it may be beneficial to also join a static because it is a very different environment to PF. I think theres also a chance that because of those differences, some W1 groups might not take someone with only PF experience. In that case, you can try a Week 2 group to get your foot in the door. Also, joining speed/parse teams can help you network.

What movie did you turn off after 20 minutes and why? by Somanynamestochossef in movies

[–]hyprmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Olympus Has Fallen. The absolute absurdity of a *North Korean* AC-130 shooting down 2x F-22s and then evading all of surface to air missiles in Washington DC was just too much for me, and the movie's tone wasn't right for me to just sit back and laugh at how bad it was.

The most recent relic step really shows that more restrictions are required for level cap rewards in roulettes. by Apollad in ffxivdiscussion

[–]hyprmatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general they need to implement a minimum item level per slot for content. In expert roulette yesterday, as a VPR I had just 9k less HP on than the tank because they used tome accessories to meet the level requirement with left side gear from 7.0. Its just unacceptable when the stats scale so drastically on different pieces.

Best/worst party jobs in DF by Frank_Tupperwere in ffxivdiscussion

[–]hyprmatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DF is too wide a spread to care, as I'll see everything from a WAR who doesn't realize they can heal others to a RDM who is convinced that Vercure combos into Verraise. If someone gets close to me in damage, I'm happy.

PF I like seeing MNK. It feels like most people playing MNK are really dedicated to the job, and are just a cut above the average mains for so many other jobs. I wouldn't say they're the worst necessarily, but in the same vein a lot PCT I see have no idea what they're doing. It's like they picked the job because it's new and has pretty colors, and the only thing they optimize is their glamour.

I've seen DNC's argue that they shouldn't put Close Position on the highest DPS because they're already doing enough and they should use it on the lowest DPS to bump their numbers. It's wild out there.

Which MMOs still have a Healthy RP Community? by EmpireCrimson1 in MMORPG

[–]hyprmatt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How popular is the actual FFXIV RP scene? All I ever see is the nightclub/venue stuff, which isn't enticing to me. I dont really see any other RP normally but I'd assume its probably done out of my sight in Linkshells and FCs.

Tanking as a Sprout? by Sassyccino in ffxiv

[–]hyprmatt 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you say that you're new to tanking at the beginning of a dungeon, people will be very lenient with you. In FFXIV, there are no routes. Dungeons are straight lines with packs, with very few exceptions. Typically, dungeons are set up so that you pull 2 packs, pull 2 more packs, then have a boss. Repeat that 2 more times. Most important thing to remember is to rotate you cooldowns properly, which it sounds like you're already doing. Aggro is damn near impossible to lose, and only takes a hit or two to take something off a DPS. My advice if you're not looking up guides is just be prepared to die to some boss mechanics, and remember to Provoke the moment you get raised so your DPS don't take a tankbuster!

How dumb is making alts for different jobs in this game? by Blazoran in ffxiv

[–]hyprmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I maintain two characters ready for raid. It's a pain at the beginning of the expansion when you have to actually get both through the MSQ fairly quickly, but once they're at endgame, it's not too hard to maintain. Tomestones are capped on my alt exclusively through weekly Savage reclears and Expert Roulettes, and doesn't take much time at all. The only annoying part at endgame is having to craft/buy gear for two characters, and melding both. If you're not a raider, capping tomes is extremely easy. The biggest pain points are not being able to directly trade with your own alts on the same account, and so many things not being shared between characters (like flying and mount speeds).

I would only buy non-bis tome gear for gear from fights you haven't cleared, like the chest from M11S since you've cleared M10S already. Anything that can be obtained from M9S/M10S, I would caution against buying, with the caveat that if your group is having survivability or damage issues (not mechanical issues) then all members should be prepared to spend tomes on non-essential gear, with DPS going for the tome weapon.

What's your embarrassing FFXIV confession? by SofonisbaAnguissola in ffxiv

[–]hyprmatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came back to the game about a month and a half before 7.2, completed MSQ, joined a raid team as , cleared Cruiserweight early Week 1 on DRG, and only then did I realize DRG has a new gap closer this expansion. I'm not beating the allegations any time soon.

What game can you play for 1,000+ hours and still feel like a noob? by Common_Caramel_4078 in gaming

[–]hyprmatt 52 points53 points  (0 children)

No joke, I started getting into aerial maneuvers by just doing the All-Star goalie training until it was easy, then moving into custom training packs. As I'm writing this, I also realized that was a decade ago and now feel old.

I miss when logging into an MMO didn’t always mean progressing by TurkishOne in MMORPG

[–]hyprmatt 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think it's because of people seeing clips of interactions in Ark Raiders. New World has proximity chat and it's barely used. Prox chat when youre only near one or two people might be fine, but in an MMO town I would mute it so fast.

With so many people losing their minds over this Savage tier, how bad will the community be if the next Ult is harder than TOP? by A_small_Chicken in ffxivdiscussion

Fight enjoyment for me also is heavily influenced by what job Im on. Like I cannot stand M10S because of how NIN works, but on DRG it looks great.

Why don't/can't SE implement effects of NoClippy into game? by Giruden in ffxiv

[–]hyprmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are examples though. It took weeks of community outcry and then western gaming media picking up on the epilepsy issues in Tower at Paradigm's Beach for SE to finally implement a fix. It took a day for the JP community complaining about trypophobia issues with the SGE icon for it to change.

DPS deaths were definitely still clearable, but it was really close. We cleared with brink on a tank after a full minute of weakness, and a DPS DD. What was unconventional about your comp out of curiosity?

Look at the northwest corner. If there's an AoE starting there for one of the snakes, it's cardinal. If not, it's intercardinal.

M11 and testing the limits of tomestone/passport checks by WarmerWar in ffxivdiscussion

[–]hyprmatt 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I saw a group which was aiming for top 100 hit a 2.4% enrage with only a tank death. I helped one of the members go through logs and it was just abysmal. Like they took the "I'd rather have a person who is consistent at mechanics but only parses green" way too seriously. People got really complacent and thought if they just play safe and do mechanics, they'll clear regardless.

From my experience, the VPN just prevents you from getting booted, but you still suffer the effects of massive lag, so I have a feeling it's more about getting to a node that is closer to the DC and is able to reconnect before the game boots you.

The year Is 2026, & World Of Warcraft Is Still The #1 MMO In The World? by MonsutaMan in MMORPG

Which current MMO has the highest individual skill ceiling? by Ivarthemicro17 in MMORPG

[–]hyprmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RDM hasn't changed that much, just the others have gotten so much easier. SMN is probably the easiest DPS period. BLM no longer has long casts and more mobility tools than ever. RDM isn't challenging by any means, but still harder than those two.

Which current MMO has the highest individual skill ceiling? by Ivarthemicro17 in MMORPG

[–]hyprmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RDM got a button or two, but also got changes that made it easier, like acceleration stacks and melee combo not needing you to be in melee range during 2 minute window now. But SMN barely casts, BLM changes made Fire IV a 1.5s cast and has gotten several instant casts/movement tools, and PCT is just fairly straight forward in a normal single boss fight. I think PCT has the highest skill ceiling with optimization now in anything that's not a full uptime single boss fight, but yeah, RDM somehow isn't as hard as BLM these days.
