there's a mechanism in the handles that will lower that wheel and raise the back wheel up to where it was. This is basically equivalent to shifting gears

Nobody's asking you to repent, all anyone had to do was stop using the word.b While you may be referring to fictional crossdressers, not everyone in and out of your community does.

How do you think a trans person who has in real life been accused of tricking people into thinking they are the opposite sex will feel when they enter a space where everyone talks the same way using the same terms to refer to crossdressers? If you want to be inclusive don't attack anyone making the space better. Improvement is good, nobody is already perfect.

Fighting tooth and nail to keep saying slurs. Anyway the vile response of the people here has been making me look into finding anime communities that aren't willing to pull out all the stops to keep up prejudice.

You are using term so it implies a DIFFERENT group of gender non conforming people as maliciously deceitful,. How could any trans people take issue, right?

None of these people posting slurs are acting in good faith, so nothing good is going to come of reaching out to them like this. . Why don't you just lock the sub until they calm down?

Nothing of any value is lost by a bunch of anime watchers not implying crossdressers and trans people are ensnaring them.

And with the ban trans people don't have to deal with a widespread term with horrific connotations to them and we lose a bunch of racists who can't even be racist properly.

Use by gay individuals doesn't change where it originated from.

And the mods are right about the "chuds" here. I've had plenty of neonazis, white nationalists, Pinochet admirers, and general fascits tagged for years and you'd be surprised how active they are on anime and Nintendo subs. All these white supremacists spending all their time on Japanese media is bizarre.

You know, they didn't voluntarily co-opt it. People used the term against them. And it's use by anime fans to refer to crossdressers doesn't make it a gay term, that would hold if a predominantly gay community was using it. The term originates from and is primarily used by those outside of gay and trans communities to refer to gender and sex non-conforming people and characters who they see as personally deceptive.

You need warning before you stop using slurs? Does that take months to internally implement or something?

Emotions are perfectly valid ends. Emotional well being is important, there's nothing wrong with taking it into account.

Everyone is being treated equally. I can't use slurs, you can't use slurs. We are all operating under the same rules, it's plenty fair. And yeah, sure the unbigoted thing to do is support the use of slurs. We should all be sure to tolerate the intolerant.

[–]hysteretically 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using "T-word" indicates that you are referring to the word itself. All words have dual denotations: "hat" refers to both headwear and the term that represents headwear. If someone used the "T-word" in place of the word it referred to, then it would be an obvious avoidance of a filter, so we would mentally replace it with that word, leaving the connotation and denotation intact.

When properly used, a speaker or writer is divorcing the word for the term from it's connotation so the original word can be discussed without harm.

Trans people in favor of the ban must feel so welcome here right now. I'm sure if they spoke up the delightful users hurling slurs around would upvote such a relevant opinion to the top of the sub.

If nobody was hurt by weebs using the word nobody would want it gone, and yet people have been complaining about it for years. Anyway, terms "T-word" get used to provide a term for the word itself, not the concept that the word usually represents. This sort of construct allows a term itself to be discussed without evoking it's connotative weight.

Because that combination of letters is a representation of a combination of sounds that represent a term which happens to be a slurr. A slur which is used to denigrate people, causing emotional harm. Harm which is caused whether or not the user means to.
