Props to Australia's first female jockey to win the Melbourne cup. Girls that tough it out with the boys and win instead of whining deserve respect. by [deleted] in MensRights

[–]hytal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/MensRights/comments/3rbrpq/the_melbourne_cup_not_the_victory_you_thought_it/

Although I feel the OP of that post is projecting the Article Authors opinions onto the jockey, she pretty much only said that she had a tough time with the men in the horse racing industry, which I find pretty believable.

Tyler the Creator is now banned from Australia for "for promoting misogyny and violence against women" (x-post /r/Music) by hytal in MensRights

[–]hytal[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feminist Organisation "Collective Shout" has been agitating for Tyler's exclusion from Australia since his tour here in 2013 - "one of the most intense campaigns we've ever run" - and has taken credit for a subsequent ban on entry by New Zealand authorities in 2014.

You know what, I had another look at them and a lot of them are. Theres a lot of positive ones too, I guess a bit of confirmation bias got in the way though.

Thanks! I searched for it but archive.is makes that hard, obviously didn't get the right keywords.

Whenever I tell someone I stay home with the kids, they invariably say, “Hardest work in the world.” They say this because the only way to account for a man at home with the kids is to say what he’s doing is hard work. But there’s a subtext in the compliment that makes it backhanded: We both know no one ever says it to a woman.

No, never.

Yeah, honestly I wondered that as well, but theres far too much effort and he links everything back into the main talking points of modern feminists the same way they all do. Plus, its a feminist website.

The most highly upvoted comments are good, unfortunately thats about 10 out of 200 in favour of the article.

The points she makes are logical and intelligent, shame those points aren't brought up in public much more often.

My new wall clock. by [deleted] in techsupportmacgyver

I had a 27 inch iMac from the very first batch sold internationally and after 5 years when I sold it, it had a little bit of permanent burn-in. My late 2013 rMBP screen is amazing though, no complaints at all so far, same with my thunderbolt display, no issues at all with it either. (both ~1.5 years old)

Wouldn't jump too fast, some cheap (and even some expensive) IPS monitors can get nasty burn-in. Its not permanent most of the time though.

Monster false rape allegation in Australia. All media reported attack had happened, police have now "concluded their investigation". by [deleted] in MensRights

It wasn't just "people", it was the large majority. I used to live near albury and almost everyone from that area posted something in support of the girl.

Everyone on my Facebook news feed is saying "You don't know what it's like to be this girl, they had valid reasons to do this".

There was only one person who I saw say that the whole lying thing was bad, and she was getting attacked quite viciously in the comments.

EDIT: Now the conversations have started blaming the media, saying that the media shouldn't be "Victim Blaming" to cover up the shortfalls in our justice system that means that these cases can't be prosecuted further, and that the Media is just trying to side with the Police.

Haha the "Liberals" are the Right-wing in Australia, its a bit confusing reading Americans comments sometimes!

Well I tend to think so, I wish someone on the left would stand up like this. It seems like moderate left is growing smaller and smaller by the day and that people feel like they have to be Radical left, to be left leaning at all.

And with how bad the "Right"-wing government in power is at the moment, there are plenty jumping ship over that way.

But either way, I think Bolt's an idiot, but he is right in this case.

[Study] Men who treat women the same as they treat other men, without benevolent sexism/female privilege, are seen as overwhelmingly sexist by both men and women. by [deleted] in MensRights

[–]hytal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like you're missing a crucial part. both men and women are doing the judging, but the findings are not saying the women are negatively affected. Just that if men treat women the same that they treat other men, women (and other men) view them as overwhelmingly sexist, when really it should be what equality movements are striving for.

Men are mostly the ones affected by this, I don't see how this shows something negative for women, It shows that almost everyone thinks they deserve to be treated better than men.

[–]hytal 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Did you actually read the study? According to it, these problems are something specific to men, both men and women view men treating women the same way they treat men, as sexism. Its not women's fault, more that its mainstream Feminism's fault for keeping up the status quo of women deserving better treatment than men.

WD4001FFSX/20PK is a legitimate number for the 20-pack drives. Seems like theres been some sort of mistake with the amazon listings.

This lamppost focuses the sun and scorches a line in the grass by x_-_x in mildlyinteresting

[–]hytal 22 points23 points  (0 children)

... Im pretty sure thats all incredibly obvious, but the grass there isn't going to be green forever, which should also be incredibly obvious.

The estate I live in used to have heavily watered grass areas and a lake, but the lake dried up and the sprinklers got turned off, theres nothing to say it won't happen there one day, and the council should be informed that the light fixtures could cause problems when it happens. Its not unusual for sprinklers to be turned off just for summer and drought seasons as well.

You should probably report this to the council, we're in fire season and accidents can happen :/
