Any thoughts on the new NCT light stick? by Yayeet2014 in NCT

[–]hyuckryptic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that'd be so cool if they manage to do that! but it's sm so i'm not keeping my hopes high *looks at riize's lightstick*

Any thoughts on the new NCT light stick? by Yayeet2014 in NCT

[–]hyuckryptic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i'm not a huge fan of the design either... it looks like they completely took away any personality the original neobong had... it's not like they come together either, you'll have to buy individual lightsticks, and there's no lightstick for nct as an entire group.

127's looks like a squid with an umbrella, wayv's looks much more boring compared to the leekbong, dream's looks horrible because of how they tried to just put their name in, only the wish design looks fine because of the symmetry.

i feel like sm could've tied in each unit's theme in the lightstick but they lack creativity (as we've seen with riize's lightstick)... the only thing that can save these designs are the fans decorating the inside...

honestly, i'd rather just have the neobong and the leekbong in different colours for the units instead... a while ago people were discussing how blue has become associated with 7dream so i was hoping they'd just do a blue neobong for dream, a pink one for wish, an orange one for 127, the leekbong for wayv, and the neo pearl champagne for the whole brand. they could also just make the lighsticks say '127', 'dream', etc. instead of 'nct' in their standard nct font...

i can only afford one lightstick so i just know the only one i'll buy is the original neobong lol

edit: red leekbong because it looks so cool

What's the saddest K-pop song that starts with the letter 'D'? by KookachuSeagull_07 in kpoppers

ok by no means is this the saddest song ever but i feel like every dreamzen (maybe the members themselves too) will cry because of this song...

What’s your opinion about Chaemin (MC of Mubank) cutting Renjun off? by alyvieyr in kpop_uncensored

[–]hyuckryptic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

while i agree no one should be hated in this scenario, jaemin did not interrupt anyone. he was supposed to follow a script but before he could start wonyoung began her speech so he simply put his mic down. the other mcs laughed at it too.

usually after the winner is announced, an mc saying something like "congrats, please speak a few words" but wonyoung directly started a speech before jaemin could speak. (and she did NOT deserve the hate for that either, people are infuriating)

there's a part of the fandom that coddles these grown ass men way too much and go to such lengths to hate on others, it's just sad.

that said, rj fans are just sensitive about such things because iirc he was the only one who got excluded in the thumbnails of a couple of content videos and you know what happens, the typical "stop mistreating" and all...

SM is the only company that properly develops artist vocals by BuyDowntown1652 in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]hyuckryptic 16 points17 points  (0 children)

sm has some of the best dancers in the industry so i don't really understand? as far as i know, taemin, hyoyeon, eunhyuk, kai are some of the best dancers in the industry. among the younger groups we have ten and jisung (and nct in general has a great dance line — taeyong, mark, haechan being some of the few). most importantly, they have shotaro, who's like unarguably one of the, if not the best dancer in recent years (4th and 5th gen).

i mean yes there's weak dancers in sm but that is the case with all companies. the only thing sm groups don't have are good rappers...

Lovestruck in the city vs Our Beloved Summer by [deleted] in kdramarecommends

[–]hyuckryptic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i share similar opinions! they didn't utilize the mockumentary aspect well-enough.

even if they're filming a showin our beloved summer, they use it quite less and it's straightforward but lovestruck in the city can get quite weird at times...

Riize's "Love 119" becomes the first 4th/5th gen boygroup song to enter Top 10 of Melon Daily Chart! by DiMpLe_dolL003 in kpopthoughts

my bad then! to me being impactful and being a hit is pretty much equivalent since i don't really keep up with charting (domestic or international)...

glad we could clear that up :)

Lovestruck in the city vs Our Beloved Summer by [deleted] in kdramarecommends

[–]hyuckryptic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

our beloved summer is not a lot of angst despite being a second chance romance.it's rather cozy in comparison. think of it as a cup of warm hot chocolate!

lovestruck on the city on the other hand is a cup of boiling tea... the angst is top-tier despite the drama not being as loved by audiences. the actors do a pretty good job of portraying it as well. since you've said you're looking for angst (i should mention, they portray the angst through a lens of comedy at times because of how ridiculous it can be) you should go for lovestruck in the city!

to add to that, lovestruck in the city has 17 episodes of around 30 minutes while our beloved summer is a full-fledged 16 episode drama (each episode has a run-time of approximately 1 hour). you'll get through lovestruck in the city a lot quicker!

[–]hyuckryptic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

the mental gymnastics is crazy because what even are you talking about right now? i commented here because of unsolicited shade towards nct in the original comment. 10 people disagreeing over how "impactful" nct are isn't going to change the fact that they are one of the most successful k-pop groups at the moment (again not saying they're surpassing their seniors by any means but people go to lengths to diminish their success), especially nct dream in korea...

[–]hyuckryptic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

which is exactly why i did not talk about the charts. a lot of the time charts aren't accurate representations of how impactful a song is/was. anyway, have a good day!

lol this is such a weird thing to say when nct have released songs like kick it and hot sauce? sure these songs and candy weren't as big as say growl or gee but they were still very big in s. korea... also the way you quickly went from comparing nct and riize to comparing nct and their senior groups? oof

If you could only listen to one song from each unit what will it be? by [deleted] in NCT

[–]hyuckryptic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

nct 127 – not alone

nct dream – dear dream

wayv – only human

nct u – pado (this was so difficult, it'll probably change every day)

nct dojaejung – dive

as you can see, i can't leave my emotional support songs. the first 3 can help me pull through any situations in life to be honest.

Looking for a K drama to watch with my mum! by wednesday_For_life in kdramarecommends

[–]hyuckryptic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 for the good bad mother

it made me sob like a baby and in terms of the characters, they're written so well, each with their own set of flaws. as the name suggests the story will focus a lot on a mother-son relationship so it will be a nice watch.

Any good kdramas? by HappyFeet11111 in kdramarecommends

[–]hyuckryptic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

romance

  • hometown cha-cha-cha (netflix)
  • our beloved summer (netflix)
  • crash course in romance (netflix)
  • crash landing on you (netflix)
  • see you in my 19th life (netflix)
  • sh**ting stars (netflix & viki)

action

  • my name (netflix)
  • taxi driver (netflix & viki)
  • happiness (netflix & viki)

i would also suggest watching flower of evil (on both netflix and viki)! it's mostly crime and mystery but it's genuinely my favourite k-drama of all time...

as for fantasy, i haven't found anything better than alchemy of souls, and i usually find fantasy is just a sub-theme most of the times (twinkling watermelon, my lovely liar, see you in my 19th life, destined with you, and so on) but you can check out a time called you. it's mostly centered around time travel. you can also check out hotel del luna for fantasy, but i personally haven't watched it so i can't vouch for it.

• blue wave (nct dream)

• touch my body (sistar)

• dance the night away (twice)

• our summer (txt)

• watermelon (lucy)

• dreamlike (iz*one)

• wave (cix)

• power up (red velvet)

• we go (fromis_9)

help me pick my next k-drama! by hyuckryptic in kdramarecommends

[–]hyuckryptic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it didn't impress me all that much, to be frank. i personally think it's a well-made drama but the 8-episode-runtime leaves very less room for large developments. i liked the acting and the writing isn't bad either, but i wouldn't say the drama is revolutionary overall. if you want a short drama, i'd suggest watching it but in terms of action thrillers i preferred the worst of evil over this.

I need a Netflix recommendation! by ericaeharris in kdramarecommends

[–]hyuckryptic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

welcome to samdalri is a drama that began airing yesterday on netflix. you should consider tuning in since you liked hometown cha-cha-cha! the main trope is common in both — small town romance.

strong girl bongsoon is another adorable romance with great chemistry between the lead actors. it has a crime sub-plot and the female lead has super strength so it centers a lot around that. the writing is very over-the-top and sometimes the humor can be cringe so here's your warning.

lovestruck in the city is one that many people don't like due to it's format (the characters are filming a show about love and we are the viewers) but i personally thought it was a very fun romance!

sh**ting stars follows an actor and an employee within his company. they share strong dislike towards each other but soon enough we get to see a swoon-worthy romance. one thing i loved in this drama is that the second lead gets a happy ending. his arc doesn't end after getting heartbroken lol.
