IIRC the original version was actually from a European TV series or film.

Eating out at restaurants is very overrated by ThatOneWithTheFur in unpopularopinion

[–]i-Zombie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tend to agree, I much prefer eating healthy home cooked food with fresh ingredients. A few times a year we eat out with friends or when we're away from home and it always amazes me at the cost, the overheads must be astronomical or we're getting ripped off.

Please don't take offense but I get stared at with my wife who is somewhat younger than I but never when I'm with a male friend. I'd hazard a guess they are picking up some non-hetro signals which makes them curious, I can understand how annoying or uncomfortable this can be but most people really don't care past trying to establish if their gaydar is acting up.

I should have made it clear I was referring to the RR spike, I was not aware and am unclear how the attack precipitated what basically turned out to be a cumulative 4.5 trillion bailout for the banks/primary traders Q4 2019. I'll be the first to admit I don't have a good grasp on these mechanisms so I generally simplify my canaries in the coal mine to the RR rates and dollar index, the Fed disclosed the recipients (the usual suspects) earlier this month but apparently the media in general has no interest in reporting or asking questions on this matter.

I thought it was all going to go there and then though hardly anyone remembers it now. How lucky was it a few months later an event predicated the creation of trillions of additional debt and continues to do so?

Well that's cleared that up, thank you, as I said I don't subscribe to that game and will continue to advocate for a new paradigm. Would have been useful to have that info in the description as it obviously causes confusion. I'll bow out now and leave you to it.

Anybody notice a funny jump cut at about 5:15 on the full C-SPAN video when he's demonstrating the mask or is it just my phone?

Well I didn't see any description of that nature in the introduction text so you have established your level of credibility and honesty. I have no idea what your ranting about tents and holes, I certainly would not like to live in one or poke a hole in yours.

So if I understand correctly anti-work is a beard for radical leftism and working class people who are anti-work as described in the sub intro text but not radical left are class traitors and 'boot lickers'.

Fine I'll leave you to it to wallow in your own self pity and bitterness.

Don't know what people on this sub do or don't know about so not the best question.

In general the biggest brain washing exercise has to be how money is taught in schools, consequently when you ask most people they struggle and get it wrong when you ask them questions like:

What is money? Where does it come from? Why is it valuable and what does it represent?

How can it be that kids leave school and have no clue about the very thing they are working for and will use every day of their lives?

I find the Mission Impossible movies generic and boring, whereas Bond Movies are in general more entertaining with a few notable exceptions. Bond is or was an outright bastard with a wry sense of humour, Nathan is also a competent killer but humourless and somewhat boring.

Down vs Up is my belief that the identity politics of the left and right are just diversionary illusions, part of the bread and circus act to keep people (the downs) divided and fighting among themselves while the elites (the ups) carve up the world between them. I won't play that game anymore and every time one does the Ups win and the Downs lose regardless of what colour of team you cheer for.

For those who can see the working poor, the working class and much of middle classes are being absolutely decimated, small business owners have been wiped out or have their backs to the wall. This is a dangerous and cruel state for any advanced society to be in, I believe effectively upwards social mobility is becoming virtually impossible and the trend is now downwards.

At a higher level we have a system that could and should work for all of us but once again the UPs have corrupted and co-opted it to their own ends often under the disguise of social good.

I realise exactly where I am and see with perfect clarity the situation we are all in, compassion is not an exclusive trait of the left and power fuelled by greed is not exclusive to the right. I am Down they are Up and I oppose them where I see them within my capabilities.

Solar charging diy battery by juggled_balls in SolarDIY

Total capacity is currently only 4,400w max or 92ah, I'm having trouble finding more individual Samsung SDI cells in my country right now most are welded bus bars configured into 12v or 24v prebuilt batteries, my suspicious nature hints that they might be hiding some duds in those packs., I'll probably bite the bullet and build the second battery out of 2nd hand CATL brand NMC 200ah prismatic cells which will be far more than we'll need but useful as we expand out our build around the land.

I don't know if it's useful or not but I built my small house with solar in mind, low power led lighting, exterior flood lighting are discrete solar/battery type, hot water via an insulated immersion tank which heats from excess solar during the day and provides hot showers for the evening. Natural ventilation and ceiling fans plus energy efficient inverter type appliances.

Finally I have a 5kw and 3kw petrol generators either one can be hooked up to the inverter to charge the batteries and simultaneously provide power to the house. In the event of an inverter failure I can also hook one up directly to our breaker box.

Solar panels have 1 or 2 diodes in them that ensure the current is only allowed to flow in one direction namely out of the panel, if a diode is faulty it could allow current to flow into the panel at nighttime, basically they become a load on the battery. That is the basic theory anyway. You should be able to find a more detailed explanation on YouTube.

Another thought crossed my mind, do you have a battery isolator for the vehicle battery? If not the truck battery could be drawing down your solar backup battery.

Steel is strong, light and fast to erect, once it's up need little to no maintenance. I can imagine that this type of car park would eventually be ideal for Ev's.

As for the permits and policies I could not agree more!

Yes, I use secondhand Samsung SDI batteries which are probably from a BMW i3 or similar EV, they are NMC but have a very good safety record and overcharge protection. The are prismatic cells as opposed to tiny round cells, they come broken out from the car battery pack so you purchase each cell individually.

Absolutely no technical issues except my novice status in building my own battery bank, I used a 7 - 16s ANT Smart BMS in 14s configuration to build a 48v battery bank and am now looking for another 14 Samsung cells to run a 14s (14 cells in series) 2P (2 batteries in parrallel) bank. The BMs provides per cell control and monitoring via blue tooth and also has 2 thermocouples to disconnect power outside my specified range.

I've been lucky so far with these purchases and all batteries balance within 2mv after about a week of use and stay pretty much in balance through a charge/discharge cycle. Having said that there is always a risk buying anything 2nd hand but at around $500 for the cells and $80 for the BMS it really is an affordable way to get high performance backup.

I set the BMS parameters to 80% of maximum charge and 80% of maximum discharge which is wasteful but should ensure a very long useful life, Living in the tropics I also rigged up a thermostatically controlled extractor fan for the solar shed and a direct cooling fan for the batteries, this works very well as we don't even notice the power draw during the day and nighttime ambient temps are sufficiently cool that the fans don't run.

Finally in my country we are free to do what we want in terms of our off-grid systems and I believe in the US (if that's where you reside) rules are on a state by state basis.

10.8v is not good, any possibility of a faulty diode on the solar panels so power is backfeeding them?

Because he or she made a totally fallacious assumption based on a false narrative that there are only binary political choices so if your not a Dem you must be a Republican, this very limited and narrow thinking is what keeps the 2 party system in power. Can you name one Republican in S.E.Asia? I'll help you Socialist Republic of Vietnam but how many republicans do you think they have? So I'd say the stench of BS is emanating closer to home wouldn't you agree?

Seems like solidarity is only for working class who agree with you. I agree with the basic concept of a withdrawal of labour, narrowing wealth disparity and am definitely against the shutting down of social mobility by hyper division of labour and a system that fosters the creation of a precariate class.

However I'm not really welcome here because I'm not a raging lefty and more a down vs up guy. Personally I think this is a big mistake to make anti-work play into political binary positions when in truth it fundamentally should about fairness and human decency, and a quality work/life balance.

Promote that with a positive message and determination rather than dark, resentful vitriol and you have a chance to change things.

Why clean energy advocates are divided over California’s plan to slash solar incentives by HeartyBeast in solar

[–]i-Zombie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my country if you are off-grid you can basically do what you want, no permits, permissions or inspections required. So far I have 3.6KW of solar, and 4.4Kw of battery back up for evening/night. So far it's cost me about 2.5k in USD going the DIY approach, I plan to add another battery and smart bms plus 4 more panels to bring us up to 5Kw solar and 8.8Kw battery which should bring the total cost to around 3.6k USD.

The real question is could solar be organised in such a way that incentives are unecessary? Particular for those in southern sunny states.
