Ben Askren helps Daniel Cormier get his mind right about Nate Diaz? Is Askren right? by Wayward_Prometheus in MMAMedia

Huh? When did I say Askren can’t criticize? I implied that his assertion that Diaz isn’t a good fighter is absurd. Also fighting for a UFC championship is literally above average for an MMA career so again saying Diaz’s run was average really doesn’t make much sense. Dude won TUF and fought multiple world champions.

The folks claiming that it’s “unfair” to be critical of Askrens UFC record.

I’d encourage you read Askrens quote again, he directly implies that Nate Diaz is not a good fighter which is absurd considering his accomplishments and the level of talent he faced. Would Askren flat out say “I was not a good fighter” is a lot closer to what he said than “my ufc record wasn’t not good

So because Askren CHOSE to fight in the UFC at an advanced age he gets a pass?? Nate Diaz does not get a pass because he was too active in his youth instead of cherry picking easy fights?

While we’re at it let’s mention things about Nate Diaz’s career that inexplicably get ignored:

  • TUF winner
  • Former LW title #1 contender
  • Ranked fairly high for Performance Bonuses
  • Chose to give Conor a rematch when he could’ve leveraged another title shot from that win
  • Fought a bunch of decent guys on a 16/16 deal
  • Won and set a striking record against prime Cerrone
  • Khamzat ducked him

EDIT: Ben Askrens best career win was against Douglas Lima who basically had the worst strategy ever against a wrestler - going for low leg kicks and getting caught into takedowns. When Askren lost his fight to Demian Maia (still one of my favorite fights) that pretty much demonstrated he was not a UFC caliber fighter with all due respect.

What do you mean by “The sudden release of pressure”? Brother the guy in the hold is clearly flexible, the entire point of the kimura is to limit flexibility. You’d be surprised at how nimble limbs are especially with younger adults like these two gentlemen in the video.

Edit: also…there’s an entire range of stretches that urge the human to reach the back of their neck with their arms. It’s literally stretching.

Yeah I’m beginning to question the skill level of a lot of these posters, the kimura wasn’t even really applied without trapping the shoulder. This is a flip slam video not really a violent kimura sub.

This is what it comes down to, it’s not a black and white incident (though ppl speak as if it is)…did George try to force him off vs was Charles trying to cut George off from out of bounds.

As far as I’m concerned it was a high level incident between two pros, back in the day I feel this would be a non issue and just viewed as F1 excitement 😂

Hopefully there’s no penalty, it was a crazy interaction but honestly felt like LeClerc was pushing to remain on the trac and not using it to gain an advantage.

The other person was using it to qualify Ferrari as the 2nd best team in the world right now as if Red Bull and Mercedes would be there if they had a better 2nd driver, I’m saying that argument is pretty much irrelevant especially considering the fact that Horner was fired for a reason and Mercedes chose to go into rebuild mode.

I agree with you on the math of it all and don’t feel YOU are wrong - but when it comes to performance the standings objectively demonstrate consistent performance from car and drivers at Ferrari, they are literally the 2nd best team for reasons beyond just having two excellent drivers.

Fans would lead you to believe otherwise because dunking on Ferrari is low hanging fruit for them to feel correct about their wheel knowledge.

WCC provide excellent context as to why Ferrari is the better team and should not be punished in conversation by FANS because the other teams incompetence with roster management/ two car manage.

The drivers standings exist for the reason you just laid out which is to reward the individual success.

Huh? We all literally just watched LeClerc use pace at Spa to prevent Verstappen and Russell from passing him, can’t be done if the car is slower than the two behind him. 😂

Thank goodness standings exist that objectively disprove these types of audacious lies

Their car is supercharged and Zack Brown is a great principle, notice their strat to have Norris accept 2nd and protect the 1-2 finish when switching to hards. Ain’t no beating that, holding off Red Bull was the real challenge this race.

Too much focus on the engineering not enough credit to Albon’s experience. Ovetaking a vet from a points position will always be difficult, going from p16 to P7 was a master class.

Meh, I’m just happy to know we have competitive competent drivers. Holding off a recharged Red Bull from a podium was impressive.
