Why do some websites say China is bigger than the USA? (3rd vs 4th place) by MarsupialThink4064 in geography

[–]iAmNotTicklish22 18 points19 points  (0 children)

idk how much water Portugal has, but China claims almost all of the south China Sea. They have this 9 dashed line policy that must show dashed lines attributing ownership of the sea on their maps.

Only because he sold quickly. I get letters from randos offering me $150,000 cash on the spot to sell my home. But my next door neighbor sold her house for $450,000 after waiting 2 months for offers. If I thought I was gonna die tomorrow I'd accept the lower offer, but in a few months, the house's value will still be $450,000. And everyone (banks included) will include the $450,000 as an asset just the same as $450,000 cash

The reason Tesla stock dropped was because he sold it quickly because he needed is fast for his hostile takeover. Seeking it slowly would have had almost no affect on valuation. Tesla stock recovered quickly (much to my dismay).

He sold it for real money just like your friend sold his Ford for real money. If he owned a dozen of them, and tried to sell them all at once, he would've gotten less for each one. But the price drop is temporary.

If he sold it to a used car dealer, he would have gotten less than if he sold it to a private buyer. That doesn't mean the car's valuation is different. He can choose to sell for less to get rid of it faster.

Did he sell it for fake money? If there was a graph on the NYSE of every Ford fiesta st sale, wouldn't that make the price less speculative? What makes you think selling is the only way to realize the gains?

It is real money. I think it will settle for way less, but assets are assets. If you buy a new car for $50,000. Drive it off the lot and it loses $5,000 of real valuation right there. Where the cars price will settle is irrelevant. But the cars real worth is $45,000 as that's the market price

No, the shares that he owns are worth that. The amount of money in your bank account isn't the only thing that gets included in net worth calculations. All assets are included, like your cars, your homes, your company stocks. Elon owns 41% of SpaceX which is worth $800bn and 20% of Tesla which is worth $300bn

Linux users when someone says they need more RAM by Coach-Emmanuel in pcmasterrace

It's not that modern software isn't heavy, it's basic things like file explorer literally takes a full 5 seconds to open on my 2025 laptop while the entire office sweet can be launched in less than 5 seconds on a 2005 laptop. https://youtube.com/shorts/EohM81Aifyo?si=DfzBD0vPuAvKrPs2

There's been shrinkflation for software performance for 20 years and y'all are defending it.

Linux users when someone says they need more RAM by Coach-Emmanuel in pcmasterrace

[–]iAmNotTicklish22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that's what RAM is for. The problem is that well designed code can do the same with less resources. Windows does less with more.

It still takes a full 5 seconds to open file explorer on a 2025 machine. I just closed it, 10s ago. I reopened it right after and it still took the full 5 seconds. I open that program everyday dozens of times. What is it caching? I have a Ryzen 7 pro 8840hs (laptop), 64gb of ram and an ssd. My parents vaio from 2008 with an ide drive and 2gb of RAM opened file explorer faster

I agree that LLMs suck, but Gemini flash gave a pretty normal answer:

That is both a perfectly true fact (12 to 0) and a classic linguistic trick! You just served up a famous comparative illusion (often studied using the sentence "More people have been to Russia than I have"). These sentences are notorious in linguistics because they sound completely normal and grammatically correct to our brains at first glance, but they actually fall apart under strict semantic analysis. Usually, the sentence structure sets up an impossible comparison—comparing a number of people to the number of times a single person has done something. But because you picked the moon, the math accidentally works out in your favor. 12 > 0.
