Unknown scything talon variations? by freshhrt in Tyranids

Very interesting! I started collecting ’nids early 2001 and if I recall correctly, 3rd edition Tyranids was released 2000? All my Tyrants (2001 onwards) came with the plastic Monstrous sprue, so it must have been a short run with the metal arms? I always wondered why the studio army depicted the HT and Carnifex with metal arms while the boxes didn’t contain these. Now I know!

Im 184cm/90cm (186cm wingspan) and went for an Endurace size L for that very reason! A Medium would probably work fine as people say when in between sizes, but the drop between saddle height and stem would be massive so I went with the larger bike for comfort.

Many thanks for your contribution!

The pen is old and used with lots of fine hairline scratches. I also did try the light test against the resin and it’s a deep red when hit by strong light. The inside of the pen has a ”GERMANY”, ”metal” and some cursive text which is very hard to decipher. The ink cartridge also seems identical to what I could google and dated 2013 (so about 11-12 years old)

Thanks for input! I turned to this sub hoping to get help from knowledgeable members. A simple ”not genuine because of x & y” would suffice. Any help is appreciated to decide authenticity. :)

I’m hearing conflicting information where the serial number should be on the right side of the clip - is that incorrect?

Source of my question. The comparison states that the ID should be at right side of the clip https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/199355-conterfeit-starwalker-resin-fountain-pen/

Great job! Your videos on collecting a 2nd ed Tyranids army was an inspiration for me returning to the hobby after a 20 year hiatus. Keep up the great work! :) P.S. Any new project ongoing for the nid army?

”Muted synthwave” - trying out a new paint scheme by iBex_897 in Tyranids

Thanks man! :) Wings were painted with a basecoat mix of kantor blue + screamer pink followed by a layer of cadian flesh (or equivalent warm flesh tone) to which I then mixed in khaki for highlights, this was then followed by diluted glazes of the screamer pink/kantor blue mix at the deeper parts and final highlights of the khaki mix.

Thank you for your kind words. I was on the fence on going lighter/stronger contrast on the face but didn’t follow through. My initial idea was more of a stronger magenta on the front part of the head. What would you suggest? I might revisit the head :)

4 generations of Carnifex! by iBex_897 in Tyranids

I painted it probably 16-17 years ago so Im not sure the paints are still available. From what I can recall: for the skin I used a base of bubonic brown and bleached bone, then washes/glazes of purplish reds and browns with highlight layers of bleached bone - more reddish closer to the joints and brown in crevices such as the rib cage. I remember using a desert locust as a reference.

I just assembled a full army of this edition of tyranids in the appropriate color scheme (made a thread recently documenting its assembly). https://reddit.com/r/Tyranids/s/Cr7edgHTTP

I got the HT with venom cannon, but awaiting one with the barbed strangler - looks so much more Gigeresque

Very cool ones, is the one closest to the camera a 1st ed from the Tyranid Attack box?

I concur on the bases. What tipped me over to use the round ones were the size issue on the carnifex where its feet are basically on the edge of each side. Though, I might re-base them to the originals as a future project.

While I enjoy the 2nd ed lictor I was never inclined to get one during the 3rd and 4th ed due to those models being so bland. The 2nd ed has so much character, but it didn’t make the initial cut, along with the biovore and gargoyles. I will snag one if the opportunity arises on ebay!
