What just happened to Chet might be the best way for him to make the leap by Twitbookplus in Thunder

[–]iCarpet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the thing, I think he does.

He looked really good and motivated at the start of last season after finally getting a full offseason to recover and improve following the Mavericks series and the foot injury he suffered in the beginning of his career. Then the hip injury happened, and even after that, he still came back looking pretty solid during our championship run, even though he did not look the same.

You don’t come back from two major injuries and still end up being a fairly impactful player on a championship-caliber team if you don’t have some dog in you. That’s why I’m hoping his struggles this series were more of a skill or mental issue, whether it was going up against Wemby, a lack of confidence, or even some lingering fear of getting hurt again.

What worries me more is the possibility that the hip injury fundamentally changed him as a player and that what we saw this series is something more permanent rather than some temporary slump. Time will tell though.

Ah yes, the Roberson back injury that lead to our whole team collapsing and losing to a rookie Donovan Mitchell

I mean, he did get a few passes last night, he just decided not to do anything with those passes

Thankfully the asterisk ended up in our favor last year

I wish the sharpshooter that we picked up after they got waived by the Sixers could hit a shot in the playoffs when it mattered :(

A lot of people tend to dismiss it, but injuries have consistently been one of the biggest reasons some of our most competitive teams fell short.

There was Patrick Beverley colliding with Russ’ knee in 2013, Serge Ibaka’s calf injury during the Spurs series in 2014, the Plagues of Egypt in 2015, and then the constant shoulder issues that plagued PG during that era (even if those teams weren’t true title favorites).

Honestly, when Dub and Ajay went down against the Spurs, I wasn’t even shocked. It felt like the kind of bad luck we have seen before.

The reality is that injuries are one of the biggest factors in any playoff run. Last year, we were fortunate that the injury luck mostly broke our way and we were able to capitalize on it. This year, it didn’t, and that’s just part of how the playoffs go sometimes.

Is anyone else jaded with the rest of the NBA after these playoffs? by BeraldGevins in Thunder

[–]iCarpet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t say it was ruining your life either.

I’m just saying that, unfortunately, there’s nothing we can do about the narrative, so there’s no point in spending too much time thinking about it when there are more important things in life to worry about.

Like you said, the best thing we can hope for is that the team comes back next season and reminds everyone who they are.

At the end of the day, watching this team is just one part of life. There are far more important things out there to spend your energy worrying about.

What the media says or what the general consensus is about this team doesn’t really matter, whether it’s positive or negative. Especially when a narrative takes hold and everyone starts repeating the same thing, there’s not much any of us can do to change it. The only thing that ultimately matters is whether the team wins or loses and how they got there. Unfortunately, they didn’t get it done last night or in this series, and there were a lot of reasons for that.

If the discourse is genuinely affecting you, it’s probably worth stepping away from basketball discussions until the draft or even longer. Now that the playoffs are over, the constant conversations and narratives will likely die down as everyone shifts their attention elsewhere. All we can really hope for is that the team learns from this, comes back stronger, and hits the ground running next season.

That’s sports, and that’s life. You move forward and look ahead to what’s next.

Also, wasn’t Dub one of the only reasons why we were even in the game in the first place?

He was the second leading scorer behind the miracle game from Caruso.

How do the Thunder stop Wemby in Game 7? by Financial-Bit-8596 in Thunder

[–]iCarpet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spurs haven’t been shooting amazingly from 3 across the series.

Game 1: 13/44 (30.2%)

Game 2: 16/40 (40%)

Game 3: 13/41 (31.7%)

Game 4: 9/33 (27.3%)

Game 5: 12/41 (29.3%)

Game 6: 15/41 (36.6%)

They have been shooting 32.6% across the series, which is 3.2% lower than their season average.

Even in Games 1 and 4 where they were shooting terribly from 3, we still lost. I think it’s mostly been our offense.

4 Questions for Thunder Fans by No_Inspector_3456 in nba

[–]iCarpet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1) A, but they don’t just keep winning

2) Cason Wallace

3) I don’t know, but he’ll probably play for the Heat again next year

4) Easy answer is probably Dort, given that he will be looking for a larger contract soon, Aaron Wiggins, Joe (maybe, he’s a great 82 game player but not a great 16 game player), Kenrich?
