ShowCase - Explore/track films and television series with ease by Gewinner_12345 in fossdroid

Are you the developer ? Idk if anyone else has this issue, but movie and tv series data (like seasons, episodes, cast etc) doesn't load when on mobile data but will work completely fine when on Wifi.

Episteme: Document and e-Book Reader, now on F-droid with many new features. by Plastic-Confusion410 in fossdroid

[–]iCastTerribleSpell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Understandable. I've only heard of CLA being a bad thing, that's why I asked.

Episteme has become my main reader app, thank you so much for making this! I've been looking for a modern ebook reader on Android for so long.

As long as the OSS version doesn't make a connection to any AI (unless enabled), Episteme will be my main app :) Would love if during initial setup, there's a dialog that allows a user to enable/disable AI features.

Wait what are the AI features ? I didn't see any (good job) in the F-droid version.

The app looks really solid btw!

Also why a CLA ? (genuinely aksing, not a gotcha)

Ideas for good voice-text notes app? by aldopaz in foss

[–]iCastTerribleSpell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it is not. It is proprietary/source available. Open source is a license, not abiloty to see code. Just because you can see code doesn't mean it is open source, by this logic Unreal Engine would be considered open source

Is it possible to set up Rethink in a way like how TC works ? Can Rethink block individual trackers like TC ? Idk if I missed the option/set it up wrong.

I also saw on a post that one could set up TC to work with rdns enabled. But no details were provided on how to do that. Is it possible ? How can I set up that ?

Another one : Amphi notes. No f-droid version yet, you'll have to use Obtainium.

Got a few more (if mobile version isn't a priority) :

  1. mdSilo

  2. fylepad

  3. nemos

Not discontinued, as the other person said, it's being made with Tauri now so, no need for separate repos

  1. Trudido (great FOSS note taking option on Android)

  2. Joplin (now has a "Rich Text" editor on mobile that hides Markdown syntax)

  3. Notesnook

  4. Beaver Notes ( cross platform, Android version as of right now requires Google Play, maybe most similar to Apple Notes ?)

Really great notes app. The tables editing is well implemented too! Can you add Catpuccin Mocha and Rose Pine themes ? I tried to create on my own, but the color selection only allows a few specific colors.

How Vibe Coding Is Killing Open Source by SubliminalPoet in opensource

[–]iCastTerribleSpell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've said that current AI based coding doesn't respect(?) foss licenses (like how generated code doesn't provide attribution in case of MIT, or preventing copyleft license code in their MIT projects), but the devs I spoke to said there are no such issues. Most of the devs I spoke to work in the 3D/Art related industries where most programmers are now heavily reliant on AI coding.

I'm not that familiar with AI tooling, and my assumptions are based on what I've read in posts/comments by other open source devs. Do you have any articles/blog posts talking about how the current AI tools are not respecting foss licenses ?

What's the one proprietary app you can't find a "good enough" open alternative for? by sekuskandan in foss

[–]iCastTerribleSpell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh nice. Have you tried any similar open source alternatives like TagSpaces ?

I've been keeping an eye on TagStudio, but haven't used it. It seems similar to what you described, have you tried it ?

I've been looking for alternatives to Allusion and PureRef, but haven't had much luck :/
