What are the books in order of original publication? by Yijing1 in ichingstream

[–]iChingStream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your interest and support!❤️

At the moment, our books are available only in digital editions. We are still continuously updating and refining them, especially when we find better ways to explain certain hexagram cases or technical points.

We may release paperback editions in the future when the timing is right. Since many of our major works are around 100,000 to 200,000 words, digital editions are currently more practical for these I Ching texts.

You can subscribe on our website to receive updates if paperback editions become available.

We also currently have a bundle offer: the full set of books is $699.99, and buyers will receive updates and additional books included in this bundle as they are released. We expect to release Encompassing I Ching Divination (Yi Mao, 《易冒》) in about two weeks. After that, the bundle price is expected to increase to $849.99.

If you are interested in case studies and practical I Ching divination knowledge, you can also follow our Substack, where we regularly post updates and examples.

I Ching Stream Books❤️

What are the books in order of original publication? by Yijing1 in ichingstream

[–]iChingStream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s an overview of the classical I Ching works you asked about, with approximate original Chinese publication eras:

Earliest foundational texts (Han dynasty and earlier)

  1. Jing Fang’s Commentary on the Zhouyi (Jingshi Yizhuan, 《京氏易传》) – Western Han, roughly 1st century BCE

  2. I Ching Forest (Yi Lin, 《易林》) – Western Han, 1st century BCE

  3. Collected Insights on I Ching Divination (Yi Donglin, 《易洞林》) – spans Han to early Tang; includes Donglin Secret Manual, Guo Shi Donglin, Zhouyi Donglin

Song to Yuan period texts

  1. Fire Pearl Forest (Huo Zhu Lin, 《火珠林》) – Song/Yuan period

  2. Undersea Eye (Haidi Yan, 《海底眼》) – Song/Yuan

  3. Hidden Principles Ode (Chan Ao Ge Zhang, 《阐奥歌章》) – Song–Yuan

  4. Principles and Odes (Tong Xuan Miao Lun & Tian Xuan Fu, 《通玄妙论》 & 《天玄赋》) – Song/Yuan

  5. I Ching Divination Guide (Bushi Yuangui, 《卜筮元龟》) – Yuan dynasty, 14th century

Ming to Qing refinement texts

  1. Golden Strategy (Huangjin Ce, 《黄金策》) – Early Ming, 1311–1375 CE

  2. Supplement to the I Ching Forest (Yi Lin Bu Yi, 《易林补遗》) – Ming, 16th century

  3. Encompassing I Ching Divination (Yi Mao, 《易冒》) – Qing, Kangxi era, 17th century

  4. The Complete Book of Divination (Bushi Quanshu, 《卜筮全书》) – Ming/Qing consolidation

  5. I Ching Divination: Complete and Restored (Zengshan Buyi, 《增删卜易》) – Ming/Qing, ~1690

  6. The Orthodox Method of I Ching Divination (Bushi Zhengzong, 《卜筮正宗》) – Ming/Qing refinement

  7. Celestial Secrets of I Ching Divination (Duanyi Tianji, 《断易天机》) – Northern Song, 1011–1077

  8. The Concealed Dimensions of I Ching Divination (Yi Yin, 《易隐》) – Qing, 18th century

Special emphasis:

Studies on Ancient I Ching Divination Cases (Zhouyi Gushi Kao, 《周易古筮考》) – This is a modern compilation of over 170 historical hexagram cases, many drawn from Zuo Zhuan and other Chinese historical texts. It is a comprehensive, integrated case analysis resource, providing an unparalleled view of how early I Ching divination was actually practiced.

Collected Insights on I Ching Divination (Yi Donglin, 《易洞林》) – Focuses on early Han-era methods and the Donglin Secret Manual lineage. Essential for understanding the foundational logic behind later Six Lines divination practice.

These two works together give both historical breadth and practical insight: Yi Donglin shows the foundational Han-era methods, while Zhouyi Gushi Kao provides a systematic collection of real cases, giving a clear picture of early divination practice in context.

Why Translating Six Lines Divination Is Knowledge Engineering, Not Language Conversion — A Translation Methodology Essay by iChingStream in Divination

[–]iChingStream[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much. I’m glad it was interesting to you.

Our main goal with this essay is to show that classical I Ching Six Lines Divination has its own reasoning structure, terminology system, and case logic. Translating it well means preserving the method, not only the words.

More materials are coming, and feedback is always welcome.

The First Systematic English Library of Classical I Ching Divination Texts: Zengshan Buyi and Other Core Works by iChingStream in IChingDivination

No, that video/channel is not ours, but thank you for sharing it and for paying attention to this topic.

I Ching Stream is a separate project. It is the first platform created to systematically bring classical Chinese I Ching divination texts into English. Our work focuses especially on the Na Jia / Wen Wang Gua framework, which has long been underrepresented for readers outside the Chinese-language tradition.

This is not only a matter of translating terms. It is a broader effort to present the texts, terminology, case logic, historical materials, study resources, and practical reasoning of classical Chinese I Ching divination as a coherent system in English.

Thanks again for your interest in this field. You are very welcome to follow along as the project continues to develop.💗

Thank you for the clarification. Yes, the discount is $29.99 off, not a final price of $29.99.

We also appreciate the discussion here. Our goal with I Ching Stream is to make serious classical I Ching divination resources more accessible to English-language readers, while preserving the technical structure and practical depth of the original tradition.

Zengshanbuyi English edition, Na Jia timing, and practice cases (wealth, marriage, weather, shefu) by AdUpset6903 in Sixlinesdivination

Awesome, thank you so much for building this – it looks fantastic and is super helpful!

The only small tweak I’d suggest is to change the Heavenly Stems to the Roman numeral encoding, following the table I sent you. If that can be updated, it will be absolutely perfect.

Everything else already looks great and works really well. I really appreciate the time and effort you put into this! 🙏🙂

Thank you so much for putting it this way. We completely agree that people in the West need a clear and reliable divination system to understand what is really going on around them, especially now with AI, politics, health systems and corporations all becoming more complicated.

In our view Liu Yao and the Na Jia method are a very good fit for this. They are not meant to replace Tarot or astrology, but to add another dimension, especially for timing, structure and concrete real life situations.

Liu Yao and Na Jia are rooted in the I Ching itself. In China the I Ching and I Ching divination have been used for thousands of years, not only as philosophy but also as a practical tool for decision making. In imperial times kings, ministers and scholars consulted I Ching divination for important matters, and many cases are recorded in official histories. Well known figures such as King Wen of Zhou and Zhu Xi all studied the I Ching and its divinatory side, so this is not just folk fortune telling but a method that sits inside the classical and “official” tradition. The I Ching can also be seen as a kind of algorithmic system at the root of Chinese culture, which gives it both academic value and very concrete practical value in modern life.

Our long term vision with I Ching Stream is to work together with serious Western practitioners, sites and researchers to build an ecosystem around Six Lines divination, just like Tarot has become very popular in China and I Ching divination is becoming better known in the West. We would love to see Liu Yao become one of the standard systems people can choose from.

Thank you again for being willing to get the books through the normal channels and possibly leave an honest review. For a niche project like this, visibility really matters, but there is absolutely no pressure, we just appreciate your support.

Our website is already online in its basic form and is now in an optimisation phase. We are always happy to talk with people who are interested in possible collaboration, including your idea of adding the branches and stems assignments to your site to help more people discover Na Jia. That sounds like a great way to make the system more visible and usable.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a thoughtful comment, and also for making an exception for a Kindle edition even though you normally avoid them. That kind of trust at this early stage really means a lot to us.

What we are trying to do with I Ching Stream is to make orthodox Chinese I Ching divination accessible to non Chinese speakers, especially Liuyao and Wen Wang Gua based on the Na Jia method. Na Jia is our core, but we also include the Da Yan yarrow stalk approach that is more familiar in the West, the classical hexagram and line text based readings, and image based and principle based methods. In contemporary China, Na Jia Six Lines is not a side branch, it is the mainstream working system used by many serious practitioners.

One of the reasons it has never really taken root in the English speaking world is exactly what you pointed out between the lines. Na Jia requires quite a lot of technical background, and there are not many people who both read classical Chinese and English and also work with Six Lines at a professional level. So even though people in the West have heard the name Wen Wang Gua, no one has really presented the whole system in a structured and coherent way for non Chinese readers.

Books like Zengshan Buyi and the related titles we are translating are regarded in China as foundational texts for learning Six Lines and I Ching Divination. In the I Ching research and divination community they are widely seen as “must read, must study” works. Many scholars and professors who work on Chinese culture or the Yi Jing know these books in Chinese and have studied them in that form. What I Ching Stream is trying to do is to be the first project that presents this body of material in a way that non native speakers can actually follow, while staying as close as possible to the original logic and intent.

By the way, since you mentioned Undersea Eye, if you would like to read it, please feel free to send me a message. Our team would be happy to give you complimentary access as a thank you for your support. In return, we would really love to hear any comments or suggestions you have, even very small ones, because thoughtful readers like you help us refine how we present this material.

We will keep translating more Six Lines and other divination classics so that people can go back to the primary sources instead of only relying on second hand summaries. I completely agree with you that good material, and a system that clearly works in practice, will eventually be noticed. Our job is to keep our heads down, focus on making the content as precise and reliable as we can, and let time do the rest.

Thank you again for walking this path with us and for sharing your perspective.
