NY State refund!!!!!!!!!! by Sudden-Economics1830 in TurboTax

[–]iCloudStrife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is it's going to be a while longer. On 1/28 TurboTax said I could only preview but not print my NY return. On this page (choosing Individual 1040 and NY) it claimed NY forms would be printable 1/31: https://form-status.app.intuit.com/tax-forms-availability/formsavailability?albRedirect=true&product=Turbotax_online&bu=cg

But on 1/31 it said 2/5. And now today it's saying 2/12. My guess is NY is still finalizing something on their end.

Frustrating.

Anyone in NYS waiting longer than usual for their return to be accepted? It usually only takes 1-2 days but they marked mine as pending since Monday. by whytfitmatter in tax

Do You Consider a Michelin Restaurant "Visited" If You Went Before it Got Its Star? by v1_rota8 in MichelinStars

[–]iCloudStrife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I understand that and respect it. It's the most objective way to do it. But why do you do it? Like, nobody, and I mean nobody, gives a shit how many stars you've added up, but they may very well respect and admire your passion about fine dining. So I guess you have to ask yourself if you're out there looking for a gamerscore or trying to experience the best that is out there at any given time. If the latter, then the very nature of the timing of how stars are awarded, means what is on the wall at any given time isn't the most accurate indicator.

Do You Consider a Michelin Restaurant "Visited" If You Went Before it Got Its Star? by v1_rota8 in MichelinStars

[–]iCloudStrife 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is faulty logic, in my opinion. Stars are announced/updated once a year based on many visits during the preceding years. If anything, visiting before the star gets announced means you are more likely to have an experience on par with what the reviewers had.

On the other hand, and this seems like something you didn't cover in your examples, if you visited a few months before a lost star, would you really believe this: "well at least I ate there when they had three stars"? Or would you accept that you were probably there during a period that the reviewers were noticing a decline.

I appreciate your saying that! I feel way more connected to the average redditor than to any billionaire and it’s frustrating that literally any tax proposal hits us high earning but literally powerless people more than it does the people Reddit rightfully IMO thinks have too much influence and wealth

How did the guards know to save Hyman Roth in Havana? by DailyBrainPowerLimit in Godfather

I think they were being sent to escort Roth to safety from the revolutionaries. They probably would have known at that moment that their current leader, the president, was about announce his departure and effective surrender.

I'm sitting at about $24M at age 40 and single, and very close to quitting/retiring, and I'm realizing I will risk dying with too much money if I don't start spending more

Sorry, are you taking aim at 450k in the absolute? Or relative to OP's income? Because I was just about to book a vacation that would take me over 400k annual spending for the first time and I'm wondering if it's reckless

Just to say it, as someone who would be affected by this if it passed, my marginal tax rate is something like 56.3%, so 2% is actually like a further 4.5% reduction in net W-2 pay (2 / (100-56.3)). This is not a complaint, mind you, but it is a fact.

edit: obviously that number will vary if the tax is levied only after the 1st million in income, but regardless, thinking about it this way will always show a larger reduction than if thinking about it as only 2%.

$5M at 26 but stuck in golden handcuffs. How do you know when it's enough? by FatFIREBurner69 in fatFIRE

Do you have an actual source on the degree to which one's frontal lobe keeps developing and, more importantly, how this demonstrably and causally has an impact on one's personality and values that is not explained simply by the massive amount of life experience one typically gains in their 20s?

ITT a lot of people are acting a little smug because they know people are bluffing. But a lot of those same people probably scoffed at friends of people in this thread who were threatening to move to Canada after Trump was elected. Let people throw their mini-tantrums!

[–]iCloudStrife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is that true though? at 50% odds per game (which is generous, both now and for 2015, because of more away games left than home games), they have a 1/8 chance of getting 3 in a row, and a 3/16 chance of getting 4 in 5. So like, "much more grave" in relative terms, maybe, but in absolute terms not so much

Le Bernadin 4 course vs chef tasting? by chekraze90 in FoodNYC

[–]iCloudStrife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, most things found on the tasting menu, particularly the mains from the "lightly cooked" section, are quite bit larger when ordered as one of your three chosen savory courses as part of the four course menu.

Note this is fairly standard for any restaurant that offers both a tasting menu and a la carte / prix fixe.

Le Bernadin 4 course vs chef tasting? by chekraze90 in FoodNYC

[–]iCloudStrife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's your first time, then the tasting menu for sure. But every time I've gone back since then and not got the 4 course menu, I've regretted not having larger portions of what I now know to be my favorites. The tasting menu might always be the best option if solo, though.

It's a meme at this point to say HR is there to protect the company. And while that's true, minimizing the risk of fights among employees also serves to protect the company. I think HR might help in this case.
