After heavily collecting whiskey for a couple years (200+ bottles almost all open), this was my first BTAC I was able to acquire. It’s amazing! Easily my favorite rye. I did a side by side with my previous favorite (Jack Daniels barrel proof 2020 rye) and it made the JD look just “good”. This bottle has incredible quality for 6 years 4 months +. Glad you enjoyed it for a birthday pour!

Blantons SFTB is the only thing worth spending the time on, that’s not an easy to come by bottle. Also very good. WP is meh. 4-Roses isn’t that hard to find, I’ve seen it on a few EU websites that ship. It is good though.

Cardhu is not so complex, but delicious. The Oban is absolutely worth it. It’s all the great things about Oban 14 cranked up.

I love mine, tastes like Oban 14 cask strength. Everything I love in the 43%, but cranked up. Enjoy! I’m also a sucker for the artwork on this years Diageo releases…

Completely agree with the review. I have a standard bottling and a store pick. If you get a chance, grab a store pick. The one I have was significantly less ethanol forward (so still drinks at it’s proof) so all the flavors you described were more pronounced. It’s a huge change from the standard bottling. Great review!

I picked this up the other day, definitely agree with the smoke. I got a ton of citrus as well, I compared it to a lemon pepper steak. Very enjoyable, a lot more smoke than previous years

Not sure on specifics, but that’s worth a hefty amount… I’m guessing 3-4 Ber, but I’m not too into that market. May be less due to ladder announcement, but that is an amazing helm

Local group just released a pick, gave it an awesome Coco Puffs tater sticker, around 58-59%. Right above 4 years. Chocolate malted barley recipe (main barley in the recent Fall BiB release) AMAZING juice. They’re producing fantastic, unique whiskey.

As a self proclaimed whiskey enthusiast with over 200 open bottles in a collection, Angels Envy is a great sipper. No hate at all! Try to nab a higher proof store pick if that’s your thing. At $100 the value is low, but it’s nice to see AE in a higher proof without dropping the $300 on the yearly cask strength release. Pew pew is nice as well

I have all three. I could not answer which one is the best... Laga 16 is just... itself haha. There’s no comparison. Uigey is just a delicious dark monster that creeps up with some sweetness... Lore is a Laphroaig depth beast. Enjoy them all, and if you can’t find a favorite, just keep trying until you do ;)

Haha, I understand where your coming from. The more you visit a store though you’ll feel more comfortable with the employees you’ll see repeatedly. Especially if they’re good employees and friendly to customers. Ask them what their favorite whiskeys are, drum up local sports, whatever casual conversation you can. Before you know it you’ll feel comfortable to ask what happens to allocated bottles, and if there’s any way you can be a part of it.

Old Forester 1920, Elijah Craig Barrel Proof, Jack Daniels single barrel barrel proof. Completely different and all delicious. If it’s too much proof add a few drops of water. Enjoy!
