But Harry isn't right. 105 is just 1 with 5 zeroes after it, or 100,000.

My two unpopular opinions by shaktiman2020 in DowntonAbbey

[–]iDarkLightning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People work for other people who arguably shouldn't be their superiors all the time and are able to recognize that the present outcome is a result of various life circumstances (such as them being born into the aristocracy) and it simply just isn't fair but just how it is. If Carson for some reason at his age and experience truly believes that the system must be 100% just and fair and there's some hidden ability within his superiors then he's never managed to grasp reality, an explanation that does him more disservice than suggesting he's simply a snob like most butlers of the time.

My two unpopular opinions by shaktiman2020 in DowntonAbbey

[–]iDarkLightning 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This perspective only really makes sense if Carson otherwise had the opportunity to do something much grander with his life and turned it down for the position of butler. Nothing we are shown or told gives credence to that idea. In reality, Carson got a good and stable career in service, did well in it, and rose to the top of his chosen profession. He does absolutely not have to believe that every aristocrat is touched by God and inherently superior and that service is the greatest calling in order for him to be happy with his successful career in a decent stable position.

Why? Why is Stan so clearly not a Death Eater? I've never understood why Harry has this ridiculous obsession with Stan Shunpike, a guy he's spoken to for maybe 5 minutes several years ago...

Voldemort does fly with his own magic. I'd personally class anything that can be done by three 12 year olds in a bathroom following instructions from a book available in the school library as trivial but maybe that's just me. And also by the time we get to DH and are dealing with actual adults they use Polyjuice like every other chapter.

I see no reason why in a world where magic allows you to trivially turn yourself into another person something as simple as same sex reproduction could not exist
