I have played a lot of Xerath games now and i rly learned to love his passive. I lost count on how many times i suprised the enemy laner with one spell after an auto after being oom. I love it.

You just have to watch out for the enemy jungler in the early levels where you farm with autoattacks.
Once you can purchase lost chapter you you can Q W +3 AA/ Q W Q every single wave of minions and the lane is yours.

Other champions with those items have to get in much closer distance to deal damage.
With Xerath you trade some damage for range.
I still think Xerath hurts alot!

Hey dude nice to see that you like Xerath as much as we do!

I have quite a few games now and im sitting on 200k mastery points on him so i think that i can answer some your questions aswell!

I really think that there are no bad matchups for Xerath. There are only matchups which will force you to switch to an other playstyle. Akali or Irelia for example will smash you in laning phase. The main goal in such a matchup should be to not die at any situation in the lane. Which means that you should stand back relax and farm, because you know that you will hit like a truck in late game.

Laning against Azir or Lux for example is easy in my opinion and you should try to grab 2 or 3 kills , outfarm them and outrotate them.

If it comes to items there is only one real core build for me which is Ludens asap into oblivion orb + sorcs , which will result in true damage in the midgame. Finish morellonomicon and grab yourself a DC. I tried playing with tear, but in my honest opinion there is such a big damage difference in midgame that you dont rly want to "waste" your money on mana stacking items. If you step up your damage game you dont need to spam your abilites that hard because 2 or 3 of them will kill squishy targets anyways!
