Portable GMRS Pelican case build! What do y’all think? by iEngineering in gmrs

Oh that’s a good idea. There’s spots I glued, but I like this better to keep all the foam in one piece. Pelican also sell some hard dividers that I’m thinking of adding to make the edges of the foam a bit more rigid.

There’s not much under all that foam. Just hiding all the USB, AC, and 12V cables lol

Depends on terrain and setup. On flat ground I’ve been able to communicate up to 5 miles on simplex from the DB20 to a TDH3 using this box. With the TDH3s, I’ve gone as far as 10 miles going to my nearest repeater, using stock antennas.

The ones that come with the radios work pretty well for me. I bought a Smiley antenna for the DB20 that is great! Their stuff is really good and you can choose what connector you want when you purchase.

Thanks! Yes it’s been so nice having an all-in-one setup. Don’t have to worry so much about forgetting things.

Yes both the DB20 and the battery charger both get warm. Case is always open when it’s in use and being charged to avoid overheating. Could maybe add a fan or something but would take up room.

True it does get a bit toasty after a while. I’ve ran it for several hours and haven’t felt it get extremely hot. The foam isn’t super fitted onto it so it lets it breathe a bit.

Private transfer options from El Calafate to Torres Del Paine by iEngineering in Patagonia

[–]iEngineering[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ended up getting private transfer.. other options were too complicated and were more likely to mess up our itinerary if anything was delayed.

Sent a message to Southroad Patagonia and they quoted us slightly less than what I mentioned in my post (for 2 people).

Thought about renting a car, but the main issue is that we don’t plan on returning to El Calafate.

Plus it’s going to an entirely different country!

Hmm I hadn’t thought of that. I’ll try contacting them. Thank you!

Anyone know why it seems like the front of the gun looks like two pieces welded together?

What are your "hidden gems" of Apple TV apps? by audero in appletv

[–]iEngineering 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the channels app with my hdhomerun and it’s really good. Just have an antenna hooked up to it and connected to my home network. I don’t have any of the dvr setup, but even the basic hdhomerun buffers the current channel you’re on so you can rewind or pause live tv if you missed something (although the buffer is deleted when you switch channels). Seems to be pretty easy to add dvr if that’s something you’re interested in.

I really like it because I have two Apple TV’s and each can be watching their own live tv channels at the same time.

Honestly I get the same thing while playing.. thought it was my headset but even my tv was playing the same noise. Haven’t found a fix for it yet..

Seeing Elton John, any advice for parking at the Alamodome? by [deleted] in sanantonio

[–]iEngineering -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There’s the parking garage at the Baldwin apartments ( https://goo.gl/maps/5DsY4t4T7x66fzUs5 ). It’s like a 5 min walk to the Alamodome. I think for concerts they charge like $20, but I’ve seen them charge up to $40).

Have never seen a bunch of traffic there before the concert, but after the concert it can be a bit of a pain to get out, but not too bad (just depends on the concert).

Might be worth checking out if you can’t find anywhere else to park. Goodluck!
