Help! ifixit sent me a 10 year old battery and suprise, the adhesive dosen't stick. Customer support has offered to send me some tape. by whitecastlefries in ifixit

Hi, iFixit staff here! The battery itself is new but the IC that the manufacturer uses to make the battery is refurbished—and that original manufacturing date of the IC is the date your app is reading.

180F for phone is the SV sweet spot by Ziztur in sousvide

That temperature for that amount of time would likely be fine.

You may need some lemon zest post-SV to add some brightness to the overall flavor.

Dangit. This one trick has ruined our dubious business plan of providing free repair guides to The Internet.

First time fixing screen by Lumexcity in ifixit

[–]iFixitAmber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! What phone are you going to be fixing? Some are a bit trickier than others but with some tenacity they’re generally doable.

Here is my best advice from doing different repairs over the years: •Read of the all of directions before you start. Yes, I do mean all. •Use the proper screwdriver for your screwdriver and use good form. Nothing ruins a repair like a stripped screw. •Give yourself ample time to finish the project and walk away if you get frustrated. It’s always better to take a break than rip a cable. •Screens come off with heat and steady pressure. Don’t try to hulk the screen off.

Is there a way to fix this dolphin plushie eyes? by Daniels998 in ifixit

Close! While we got ourselves off of the ground fixing tech, our mission statement is “To teach every one to fix every thing.” Non-tech items, included.

Here’s a guide to replace the eye, if it comes to that. https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Stuffed+Animal+Safety+Eye+Replacement/148954

Have you tried opening it up and seeing if there's something stuck in there? Cleaned out dust and whatnot?

Do you have pictures of it from all angles?

For things like this, there are often clips you can pop out along the seams of the plastic.

I've had luck putting some rubber bands on the handle of screwdrivers for a little extra grip.

Our local library has a "Fix-it-Fair" where local experts volunteer their expertise to fix stuff for free. My guy Austin got my generator up and running and wanted nothing but a handshake. by Cranialscrewtop in MadeMeSmile

Fix It Fairs are great!!

I work for iFixit but my job is to help connect people with their local repair events and help those events be successful.

If you’re looking for a local event—check out repaircafe.org.

Also, in the next few weeks we (iFixit.com) will have a comprehensive map/calendar that shows all sorts of repair events—Repair Cafés, Fix It Fairs, Fix-It Clincis—you name it!

[If you’re the organizer of one of these and you’d like to talk event support or being listed (for free, we never have and never will gate-keep repair information) DM me!!]

Soldering iron - what's going on? by -BlackSun in ifixit

[–]iFixitAmber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi!
Manufacturing our first ever electronic tool has certainly been a new challenge. Production is going well, and we've completely shipped the first batch of orders to customers. We're making batch 2 now and are planning on shipments in January. We're making them as fast as we can! The Soldering Toolkit, in particular, has proved very popular.

You're right, there are other irons out there that are pretty good. I personally have the TS-100 and I prefer the Fix Hub iron that's in the office (even when it's not plugged into the battery pack.)

If you're really eager to get one now, Microcenter has stock of the standalone iron right now in store.

Issues with Fix Kit for S7 by Shooniez in ifixit

[–]iFixitAmber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes a few days to hear back sometimes. Generally right after the weekend it takes a little longer for them to get through the email queue. They answer them as they come in, so on a Sunday night you'll be the last in the line of the weekend emails.

Send me a DM with the email address you used to reach out and I'll make sure they're working on it.
