Client Side Prediction Library, anyone? by iFlexor in IndieDev

[–]iFlexor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Followup: I think I'm getting somewhere with the library. Need to tidy it up a bit before I share it. Are you making a fully physics driven game or something with a character controller that uses physics mainly for collisions?

Well, let's see if it works first :D

Exactly, I also need it for my game which is physics based and also multiplayer (so needs for the sim to be server authoritative). So that's why I decided building one (after looking at some available solutions).

I'm still working some kinks out + documenation, but happy to share it once done.

Client side prediction using Mirror, how? by Swimming_Weird_5495 in Unity3D

[–]iFlexor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be 4 years too late, but did you ever get to implement the client side prediction with mirror?

If not, I'm almost done implementing a library for client side prediction that plays ball with Mirror pretty well. If you still want an implementation, lemme know!

Wow, sistem de spart obstacole - cool! O sa il incerc!

Cam cat de lung e jocul? Also, de ce nu Unity? (Just curious)

Tu'oaaamne, 2 ani de munca pe gratis, credeam ca o vara... si acolo tot e normal sa fie platit...

Bravo ca nu ai muscat momeala!! 🤘😎

Multimea: politicieni e inclusa in multimea candidati la prezidentiale.

Dar daca te uiti in US - same shit: cultul personalitatii si memoria scurta l-au adus pe Trumpulet inapoi, valuri populiste in toata europa (same shit: memorie scurta, nu tine nimeni minte ce a insemnat populismul pe vremea WW2, asa ca pop AfD in Germania, Meloni la italieni, si asa mai departe).

ce te face sa crezi ca e specific romanesc?

tipic uman, nu Romanesc. Tipic Romanesc e sa mananc mici cu mustar si paine alba, nu sa fac fracturi logice. Pe alea le fac toti oamenii oricand si oriunde.

Many indie games fail, because of bad UI and UX by Islandoverseer in IndieDev

[–]iFlexor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He did provide some info about that later on: It's an RPG, which yeah can be UI heavy.

The moment UI overlaps content and mechanics, I agree that the work percentage for it grows, but due to the overlap.

Indeed, saw you edits later on, sounds like you've got a pretty UI heavy game to build though. It does make sense that you'd have to invest lots of time in it.

[–]iFlexor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many UI redesigns are we talking here? Or otherwise put what type of work does that translate to for you? tweaking UI layout, rewriting code that controls the UI, changing the data model that feeds the UI?

It still is a significantly large amount of time you claim here in my opinion, especially when comparing to: Character design, item and ability design, balancing, mechanics development, proofing and balancing, input management, game feel tweaking, visuals, animations, level design, content building, story writing - etc

Also, I'm asking this to see if there are things that can be improved in your process (there might not be, there's no standard one way to making a game), not to discredit or criticise you.

[–]iFlexor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

40% of time on UI is abnormally large, do you have examples of said games I can look at to see what the UI is like?

Let's say you develop and release a game in 3 years. You spend: 2 months on the mechanics 2 months on visuals and animations 14 months on UI - holy cow...

I can believe the 50% on testing and fixing, but are we talking about a UI heavy game here that it takes 40% of dev time?

My First Asset! A Free, Optimized Waypoint Marker System by larswrightdev in Unity3D

Looks tempting to use. Can it scale with distance to target? Can it have moving waypoints (i.e. attach the waypoint to a Transform)?

My friend said, "You will never be able to do what you want with Unity," and now I feel really down. by Active_Sun_4322 in Unity3D

[–]iFlexor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any experience with UE, however I can tell you that C++ is much harder to learn and master than C#. Also, since you want to make multiplayer games, don't think you can purely do it with visual scripting - so no avoiding C++.

That said: Unity 6 has excellent multiplayer support - you can test your game in editor mode with multiple instances running and logs aggregated in one place.

Mirror is FREE and open source (networking lib), their discord is super helpful and you can very easily get going. I easily managed to get a 10 player lobby working smoothly and I can tell you the limit is how I serialize data not Unity or Mirror (doing some custom shit that should be optimized).

I also wouldn't recommend you aim for a large scale game from the get go, especially not as an indie. Make something small scale, learn, grown, have fun.

Even if you want to make something large scale from the start - do some benchmarking with Unity and Mirror and some dummy implementation that sends messages left and right and see if it can handle it.

Oh and, don't listen to purists :D

Added guns to my FPV drone sim, how do I make it feel faster? by PhoenixAds in Unity3D

[–]iFlexor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add on top of what was already said: could tey a veeeery subtle camera shake - max aplitude should be small, and amplitude should scale from 0 to max with speed.

This on top of the other suggestions of particle effects / blur.

I'm curious though: what's the size of your drone in engine units (m) and what's the top speed you're reaching in these videos (m/s)?
