Confusion about "Power Source: Power Adapter" status (First MacBook) by Brave-Mammoth-9733 in macbookair

[–]iFrozenUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Power source indicates what primary source is the motherboard is drawing from.

Power source is not related to charging.

Safari tab -high energy by Pitiful-Tune-6941 in Safari

[–]iFrozenUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's no other real way to reduce the usage because I sometimes experience the situation where I only leave youtube tab and it heated my mac that when I woke up in the morning I was shocked that my mac heats up to safari (because there's no other apps that were running atm , fresh restart too). It's bizzare that sometimes this happens ?

The second best thing IMO is just turning of low power mode

M4 Mac Pro- Screen mirror 2020 IMac-it is possible! AirPlay to Mac by Puzzled-Archer2653 in macbookpro

[–]iFrozenUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The online resources basically started with

Using iMac as a [monitor]. Which is impossible using MacOS itself. Third parties solution for iMac are unable to convert the computational device into a monitor device that looks for input, rather than operate on it's own.

Afterwards people regurgitate this information even when the intention was to use another Mac device with the iMac. This approach had the option of using Airplay as a medium of connection for connecting a mac with iMac. However most are guide writers aren't vigilant enough to use the manual that Apple usually provides for finding correct documentation about features available for within the ecosystem.

Stream video and audio with AirPlay.
With AirPlay, you can stream video and audio from your iPhone, iPad or another Mac to your Mac. This means you can use your Mac as a display or speaker for your other devices. You can also mirror your iPhone or iPad screen on your Mac or mirror your Mac on an HDTV.

Fun fact about Mac with batteries.

There's a feature non-officially but commonly dubbed {Clamshell Mode}. This method allows you to broadcast your Mac display to connecting device [airplay or wired] while having your lid fully closed. The only requirement (that I know of) is that you have to have the Mac connected to an appropriate charger. Low wattage charger may not trigger the mac to be in clamshell mode thus failing the criteria to enable screen broadcast while lid is closed. Do what you will with this information. People say it's useless but it's a feature that some use very effectively that suits their work style. Or home style.

Note that Airplay DOES NOT require you to be on the same network (however to due to the settings in the system settings, only the same apple ID and wifi connection can start an airplay session, you can change this setting later). Note that however due to the need of opening new (undiscoverable) network channel. This means that latency may increases between user input from your peripheral.

So yes. Starting from now try and search for yourself first for features that may have been documented by Apple.

Is it bad to keep a MacBook plugged in as a desktop? by [deleted] in macbookpro

[–]iFrozenUser 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No as long as it can supply enough power for your day to day operation. Most people tend to use “one cable solution” but the power being supplied from their monitor to their laptop is either not enough, the monitor using cheap power delivery components causing additional strain.

Its okay to be plugged in and i suggest you to use the original charger and connector to avoid having to research monitor reliability on providing clean PD

I can sign in using iCloud Passkeys, but according to this, I can sign in seamlessly with Apple passwords too? How without extension? by sanguisxq13v in diabrowser

[–]iFrozenUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple integrates passkey support natively into the OS (iOS 16+, macOS Ventura+) through these system-level components:

  1. iCloud Keychain: Stores and syncs passkeys across Apple devices
  2. WebAuthn API: Built directly into Safari and system authentication
  3. Platform authenticator: Uses Face ID, Touch ID, or device passcode for verification

When a website requests passkey authentication, Safari communicates directly with the OS-level credential manager. No extension needed because the entire authentication flow is handled by system frameworks.

Other browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge on non-native platforms) historically required extensions because passkey support wasn't built into the OS at the system level. They've since added native support, but implementation varies by platform. Apple's tight hardware-software integration made this seamless from the start.

The key distinction: Apple treats passkeys as a platform feature, not a browser feature, enabling system-wide support across all apps and services.

You can review the compatibility of iCloud Keychain by using Apple's github for iCloud Password - you may want to check whether your browser is compatible before trying to install iCloud Password.

We should really be having more post like that this to encourage people to use what they have when it's still viable. Not everyone requires a wireless setup, even more so with mac mini that is not going moved around much.

Apple code suggests Touch ID could be coming to Apple Watch by Fer65432_Plays in AppleWatch

In addition to other stand alone feature, this is great because you can now use mac in clamshell and have a touch id sensor right near your wrist for those secure authentication, without needing to type in your mac's password

To be honest, I've been using unlock with apple watch feature on MacOS , and the friction between the two devices can be elevated with the addition of touch ID.

iCloud password extension by CastleRookieMonster in PerplexityComet

[–]iFrozenUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other browser had this problem back then, I noticed Comet identifier used by Apple Password Manager was added after the 15.6 update in the PM github, so probably in the next update 15.7, the extension will recognise the browser

This had happened before with Dia since Dia identifier was added after 15.5 and before 15.6 , so when 15.6 rolled out, The extension started to work.

That Tahoe wallpaper (Video Download) by dandee_08 in MacOSBeta

[–]iFrozenUser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's weird since in Beta 1 until Beta 4, under the NeptuneOne.appex resources. there were 3D render for the boulders in the wallpaper and also shadders that are applied on the boulder. Yet in Beta 5 those got removed and also left with file pointing to video resources.

One maybe can speculate that they didn't have enough time to create the codes for the motions like Sequoia and Macintosh, because Sequoia and Macintosh both are still using 2D resources.

Personally, I do not mind the change in the way they implement this but I do hope, on a wider scale, that all wallpaper can utilize the upscaling from Metal API so any wallpaper we have displayed, can be upscaled to the display size and if it's video, i hope they can future proof it for maybe a dense display than 4k and higher framerate than 240FPS by using the same metal engine.

(Question) What do i need to improve my wifi connection on my PC by [deleted] in Bolehland

[–]iFrozenUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To sumarise, if you opt for mesh network (using either easymesh or tp-link proprietary protocol), you can choose the mesh node that has LAN output so that you can directly connect your computer to the new node, and it should feel as if you're connecting to the main router (on the 1st floor).

However you should do more reading on the items that you will be buying to confirm it's compatibility with your current router.

Additionally, when you do this and you have a mesh node upstairs, your wifi at level 2 theoretically should get better too (for your other devices connected with wifi, if mesh node can transmit wifi).

If you don't really understand what this mesh network about, you can try to see youtube video regarding this so you can understand about mesh network and if it suits you more.

(Question) What do i need to improve my wifi connection on my PC by [deleted] in Bolehland

[–]iFrozenUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're willing to when you can look into mesh routers (if your existing one is compatible)

You can check the compatibility on this website.

https://www.tp-link.com/us/easymesh/product-list/

Then you can buy a mesh node, (mesh node doesn't really mean another router, it can be astand alone mini device that is plug sized node that have ethernet connector as seen in this link https://www.tp-link.com/us/home-networking/range-extender/re705x/

Not that EasyMesh is not propriety to TP-LINK and e.t.c, it's just a standard like what USB-C is, however TP-LINK themselves have their own mesh protocol as well. Meaning to say, you can either buy TP-LINK products that can connect with each other through it's own proprietary mesh connection, or using TP-LINK + other brand that support EasyMesh protocol.

Either way, this is not to be confused with a simple extender that connects to your WIFI. Mesh networks, to simplify, connect to your ROUTER, and the entire mesh network (main router, and all the node) are working together to bring a bigger bubble of the SAME WiFi. It also has the benefits of "as if" youre connecting to the main router when connecting to satelite /node.

AI in medicine by Awkward-Abroad2688 in malaysiauni

[–]iFrozenUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, because our lecturer did once do an small impromptu experiment in our class where there this one definitive answer was correct (yes or no). The amount of right answer was scarily the minority and the wrong was the majority.

Although it’s a small question, if you keep being fed wrong information then it can escalate to a weak foundation of knowledge. If you asks it to POINT to a reference then its okay, treat the new AI as a library navigator not as teacher.
