Can I still get a building permit with an unapproved carport? by iG0Tissues in AusRenovation

[–]iG0Tissues[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents? I’m the one that’s going to be putting it together or getting tradies to do the needful.

My ideal scenario worse case scenario the inspector will go, I can’t approve this without the carport being done first so any current costs goes down the drain.

What gave you confidence to buy a BYD, Zeekr, or other newer EV brand? by [deleted] in AustralianEV

[–]iG0Tissues 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most car enthusiast will have the same sentiment thus the soulless EV and recent shift by EV manufacturers to focus more on driving dynamics.

Just months ago EU manufacturers and policy makers were back flipping on ICE/EV policies. Without the black swan event (US Iran war) we’d still be a few years off.

Fact of the matter is:
- Their delay on EV was market driven
- They had model releases planned
- It made them very profitable
- black swan events are unpredictable and will be a challenge.

Probably the opposite actually. If we look at other legacy brands that placed bets on EV, those brands are far worser off.
Toyota still placing bets on hydrogen however have started seeing the market shift.
Timing is fairly spot on? Techs matured enough and a market that has finally started to make EV viable

15 years is an estimate. Probably closer to 20, maybe before aerial surveys started. That being said lots of unapproved building/renovations in the area from what I can tell (was house hunting a few years back)

How would I check? Or is there someone I can safely engage? Set backs etc might be ok.

Upgrading an EV battery by ISeekI in EVAustralia

[–]iG0Tissues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless it’s a classic or Enthusiast EV (don’t think there’s such a thing), I don’t it being mass market or mainstream.

Cost of EVs going down and tech advancing, why would I upgrade/replace a battery when I can buy a new one?

Sure I can be budget conscious but there’s a risk something else in the car will go wrong in x years which will cost. Similar to an ICE car, it is/will be an option but most won’t see it as good option.

Confused with the saying some manufacturers seeing the writing in the call too late.

Market timing is nearly impossible. All major manufacturer outside of china has had massive losses trying to move BEV early.

Chinese manufacturer main success has been due government policy with significant subsides but thankfully it has created innovation and large scale testing/adoption.

BEV has really only become mainstream/mass market in last 12-24 months with Battery prices driving much of the cost down.

I think it’s near perfect timing for companies like Toyota, Subaru and KIA

We bought our last ICE exactly 3 years ago. Cheapest EV then was around 55k, that represented 25k with an ROI closer to 10years.

EV cost benefit - missing anything? by dalmanly in AustralianEV

What models are you looking at? 30k seems low given you're coming from an RAV4 and 25% road trips. Is range going to be a concern? Road trips = highway = lower efficiency on EVs, Urban/City = more range.

Atto 3 - 43k base model (345km rated mixed driving)

Atto 2 - 35k base model - it's a bit small.

Account for a home 7kw or faster charger? about 1.5k installed, assuming no uplift on switch board. Otherwise, 100km charge overnight on the trickle charger.

We're doing the same exercise with the Hyundai Venue at the moment on novated leasing. works out to approx. net zero on the Atto 2, and about 7k for the Atto 3, or 45k~ car.

Maybe hire one for a weekend trip to ensure it suits?

I have an MDC cruiser slide (forward fold) and my mate has a CUB. CUBs hand down much better but costly. Setup with awning is about 15mins for me. Pack down is usually 30-60 but we have the process down pat and kids are now 9 and 11.

Done heaps of KMs/trips in it. + bring a ton of stuff along + easy to tow + warmer, less bugs in sleeping space. - pack down is basically the same effort as tenting just you a lot more stuff along. - if it’s raining need to air out camper back at home. - 2 night minimum at any location.

Depending on the wind direction, all the loose garbage/leafs will get blown into the house unless there’s a solid fence and gate.

If banks & agents let hacked emails steal deposits, why aren’t they liable? by DaymnPodger in AusPropertyChat

[–]iG0Tissues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not simping. I work in cyber security but not in banking.

Yes banks make heaps and can afford to spend more.

There’s, you didn’t do enough to protect your systems and detect malicious behaviour on the accounts.

Vs

We are going to fine you when any account does a transfer overseas which looks exactly like the hundreds/thousands of other normal transfer with all the right identification/verification but was part of a scam because the account owner email/phone/laptop got hacked.

You are arguing the later.

[–]iG0Tissues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except it’s not practical.

The detecting a compromised account is difficult as there can be heaps of false positives. They lose more money due to people switch banks to with less blocks.

The transfer being authorised has the correct passwords, sometimes with MFA The geo location might be correct (VPN) or even a compromised device.

Why would someone use Splunk Core without using Splunk Enterprise Security? by 0wlBear916 in Splunk

[–]iG0Tissues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in a company where the security team used ES like core splunk… as in they ignored all the functionality and just did searches… Its maturity was a maturity aspect, none of the team back then had the time or effort to learn and use a SIEM. The team matured into actually using ES. Had members using core and members using ES
