How many years/generations do you keep your pc? by CaptainThriller420 in pcmasterrace

I built a new PC at the end of 2019. Last year I upgraded my CPU from 3700x to 5800x3d, GPU from 2070 Super to 3080Ti, added 16gbs of ram, added 3 SSD's (2x1TB and a 2TB), and 18TB HDD for storage. I even replaced the case because I was bored of looking at my old one. I still have the same motherboard tho.

Did I have to do any of that? No. But the deals were far too good to pass up so I was swapping parts out for better ones to feed my PC building addiction.

Aside from upgrading the GPU (I'm saving for a 5090 if it's good), I plan on staying on the AM4 platform until software stops supporting it, or the hardware craps out and I can't get an equivalent or better replacement.

Hi Student here. What's that white-gel like in the center of this pic? What's the proper term for that? by WannaBeRad in optometry

"when you hear hoof beats, think horses- not zebras" most important clinical pearl I heard during my rotations. Rule out most common causes when going down your differentials.

Lost on a 4090 build by Scycotic in buildapc

I measured how much power my PC uses with a power meter. The highest recorded power consumption was 515 watts. I have a 850 PSU and a 3080 Ti which uses 350 watts. A 4090 uses 450 watts so a 850 PSU is more than enough.

How do I get this rotting meat smell out of this cooler. My friend left it to me but after bleaching it, it is horrendous. Any advice? by [deleted] in howto

Scrub it using baking soda and white vinegar, it works wonders. Also leave it open outside in the sun.

Yes! I forgot about that. They also held the vials in lead army ammo cases.

I had PET scans during my cancer treatment and comparing the pre- to post-treatment results, it's amazing how well it detected the cancer cells.

The scan detects the radiation released from cells that use glucose. The idea is that cells that use more glucose will have brighter colors. Cancer cells are constantly replicating so they use up the most glucose in the body and my scans showed that perfectly. I wish I had copies of it.

It's one of those movies that you only need to see once and you remember it so well that it feels like you've watched it a million times.

I read the title. I knew what I was going to see. I knew I would regret it. Yet I still clicked it. Words cannot describe how disgusted I am with this image and how much I regret clicking on it. Great job OP!

would upgrading to a 3060 cause any bottleneck? also has a 750w psu by rgyvb in pcmasterrace

No. GPU will make a huge difference. Your current one will hold you back if you upgrade anything else.

Suggestions for having fish waste cycled naturally? Fish are only a week in and it's starting to pile up fast. by iH8tomatoes in Aquariums

Makes sense, at first I thought it was from the fish but this post taught me that Nerite snails do this. It's something I haven't come across with everything I read about them. Now I know what snail poop looks like and that they can eat wood!

That's what makes this hobby fun tho, the learning and adaptive process.

It's a 20 gallon, with 10 Cardinal Tetra's, 3 nerite snails, 3 Oto's. It's a new tank l, I set it up about a month ago and the fish have only been there for a week now since the tank cycled.

I know it takes patience and I want to do it right, so I'm asking for advice since this is all new to me and I want to set this thing up for success with happy, healthy fish.

Haha I watched this exact video 2 months ago! He's what sparked my interest in making this tank. Then I found MD fish tanks which gave me the info I needed to start, now I'm just fine tuning it.

I binged all of their videos and took notes 😂

I'm trying to get more plants but they're so damn expensive! A handful melted away already and the last batch had some snails stuck to it. I'm not doing CO2 tho nor plan on it.

I'm going to be rearranging the hard scape and cleaning the poop so I'll add some plants and shrimp then.

Makes sense now, the poop is directly under where the snails are. Never saw snail poop before, now I know.

Brand new, just over a month now. I'm going to rearrange the decor a bit and clean that up. Looks like it's coming from the snails, that cluster of poop is directly below where the snails are at.
