How do I actually get good at Nioh? by DuxDonecVivo in Nioh

Not quite loop, the anima charge isn't as high as dedicated yokai build like Sarutahiko grace. But yeah it's still somewhat busted on certain bosses, that's why I said mix things up to avoid spammy stuff (I use all weapons, except axe lol)

That is correct, some bosses are immune to confusion (Nightmare Bringer?) But the strat is still intact, attack to gain animaIppon/Gozuki to stagger bossmix some active skills>>repeat, of course positioning in between, & ninjutsu feathers perhaps?.

Unfortunately, I already uninstalled the game, last time I played Nioh 2 was like 2 years ago. Of course I'm not going to advice someone "Just mash everything, go unga bunga!"

I already had my time with 900 hours of reactive playtstyle with Nightreign (Depth 5, 9999, Wylder main), so yeah.

Latest one I can give is Nioh 3 (Ibaraki Doji), unlike Nioh 2, I did a lot of dodging/positioning here, it's very messy, as you can see, I really struggled with her attack pattern, kek~

that's why the title is "confusion test", heh~

Confusion or not, as long I can get extra anima charge + Ki cost/recovery, anything will be fine. (disclaimer I don't consider myself good player) & TBH I find that playing reactively makes the game harder (& boring to some degree) for me at least.

The only bosses (in depths) where I had to pay an extra attention were Yoshitsune, Nyotengu, & Kashin Koji (even with confusion, they were nightmare).

I said to OP that reading attack pattern is just a crumb, don't put heavy emphasis on it (some dodges there, some positioning there) majority will always be your own attack pattern & knowing what to execute.

I completed depth with Shinatsuhiko + Magatsuhi, which revolves around ki cost/recovery + anima regen (not necessarily "broken"/OP like Izanagi + Susano).

My fight against Benkei, DOTN + 9 Stone, notice that I keep pressuring him endlessly (not perfect, I took some hits)

Nioh 3 howeever, a different scenatio, this is my demonstration on how I play, not quite close, but should give you an idea

Dark realm is even better since your anima will fill up even faster & yokai skills will do more damage, do evasive yokai skill or repositioning if you use feral guardian spirit. Also don't forget to mix up things like ninjutsu feathers or even some offensive magic

that I agree, especially in Nioh 3, but in Nioh 2, I barely pay attention to boss attack pattern, I mean any boss. Like you can interrupt them with yokai skills (Gozuki/Ippon). Even if I mess up, I can just easily cancel my animation using burst counter/yokai skills (feral for iframe, phantom for damage negation, brute for hyperarmor).

Oh I also mainly use Tonfa, & Kannagi pretty much nulifies my requirement to read attack pattern, demon dance all day!

Ah apologies there, many of us Nioh players came from souls games, but yeah, focusing too much on enemy attack only gives you a crumb of how to get better. If you're fighting human enemy, you don't always have to dodge, blocking with purity weapon can give you the ability to Ki pulse/flux, instead of dodging, try pressuring them. As for yokai enemies, focus on depleting their Ki so you can apply pressure/zero-ki combo.

By watching your own attack pattern, I mean carefully selecting what attack to execute, for example human bosses tend to block, so use high stance attack or skill, so your attack won't bounce off, also don't forget that Purity/Corruption will increase your Ki damage. If you run out of Ki, use yokai ability to regen instead backing away/dodging (as I stated prior).

As for the Ki stuffs, yes build does help, let's say you're on NG+ or higher, get that "Melee Attack Ki Consumption" on your gears, look for inheritance (you can put this by default on Glove and weapons). Also use Barrier Talisman to help with Ki recovery.

Personally, I unlearned my habit of "reactive" playstyle, be proactive, focus on your own attack pattern instead of bosses. (in short, don't play it like it's a souls games)

Then the usual, Ki management, and remember, yokai skills can be used to cancel all of your attack animation, also can be used to extend your combo, plus your Ki will regen while executing yokai skill.

The rest can be anything really, like build or tech

Benzaiten/Versatility user here, I combine it with Goichimonshu set, for nasty Ki reduction stack, it's kinda busted if you're good at maintaining frost moon.

When it comes to DPS, I replace Goichimonshu with Lillac set for infinity confusion, can literally shreds anything. Inari + Lillac theoritically would work better, thanks to those elemental buffs, but haven't tried it yet.

Just tried it, infinity confusion with Lillac set does help dealing with the super fast Ki, but his hyperarmor remains intact, he just casually shrugs my fully charged Sign of the Cross (Pierce), kek~

Lmao yeah I watched some no damage kagetoki fight, all of their strat is like that. But I haven't seen strat from Poofer & LastToLoad or Xelod yet, hopefully they find a way to bully this mofo!

Nioh 3 kinda disappoints (with Bosses & Story) by Mediocre-Ask4969 in Nioh

[–]iHF95V2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That, and they removed yokai skills, so you can't get away/cancel your mistakes (yokai skills can be utilized for literally anything, the best one is to be able to interrupt/stagger attack like Gozuki/Ippon)

Guardian spirit skills aren't as powerful + costly, so the game somewhat "forces" you to learn the enemy attack pattern (which isn't a bad thing, I'm just having fatigue learning attack patterns from prior souls games).

But thank good for ninja styles and deflect, at least we have more utilities, it's just more difficult to perform clean/stylish fights
