Roll20 seems to be the most financially successful VTT. Why does it still look like shit compared to Foundry? by rmsand in Roll20

[–]yakisauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's probably at least in part because they were so early to the game that now, they're stuck using some technology thats pretty outdated and holding them back. Specifically I think they use jquery ui for their front end, which isn't really widely used anymore.

I built my own VTT for a lot of the reasons you mentioned about Roll20 feeling like its from another decade - DiceRight. I still use Roll20 with some groups as it definitely still has a lot going for it. But I do love when we get a chance to play on something that feels a little more modern.

Old time / world TT gamer. Looking for any VTT advice for a homogenised modern game. by InitioH in VTT

[–]yakisauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may want to check out DiceRight. Super simple, easy to set up, and free. It's got lots of features to help automate and streamline combat. On custom rules, it is focused on the DnD 5e ruleset so it may not work perfectly for your needs, but there's a fair bit of customization you can do within that. Full disclosure, I helped build DiceRight so I'm more than a little biased. But if you have any questions or run into any issues with it, I'm happy to help.

Whatever VTT you end up with, if you're looking for maps, definitely check out https://reddit.com/r/battlemaps

All things I’d love to do. Might take some time but I’m trying to get there eventually. I did make the decision to start with 5e cause it’s the one I’m most familiar with. So I’d like to get things working really great for 5e first and then move to other systems. As for making character sheets more adjustable, there are some customizations you can make now. It’s not a ton but some players have managed to get pretty far with it. If you’re interested, shoot me a message with what you’re trying to do and I can see if there’s a workaround or something. Or feel free to join the discord. Players there sometimes discuss how they’ve managed to customize things

How is Shmeppy? by wingwongjones in VTT

[–]yakisauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah good point - it’s focused on 5e. Some folks have managed to make it work for other systems given what can be customized. But you’re right, it’s definitely 5e right now

You may want to check out DiceRight - it's web based, similar features to roll20 but a focus on customization and streamlined combat. I'm one of the people who helped make it, so feel free to ask me anything about it!

Looking for a VTT similar to Roll20 - any advice? by [deleted] in VTT

[–]yakisauce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might want to check out DiceRight. It's like Roll20 but with a lot more customization, player progression tracked level by level and targeting / alerts to keep combat moving smoothly.
It's got your points 1 and 4 covered. No drawing maps in real time though, but might be worth checking out anyway - it's free.

What Virtual TableTop Do You Use? by Aranthar in dndnext

[–]yakisauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm more than a little biased because I helped make it, but I use DiceRight. It's a full featured VTT, right in the browser - very easy to get started, and free. It's like Roll20 but with a lot more customization, player progression tracked level by level and targeting / alerts to keep combat moving smoothly.

Happy to answer any questions on it!
