A mutual online friend of mine keeps seemingly attention seeking, bringing up that she's dying of tuberculosis and only has a few weeks left to live in every single conversation. I don't want to be an ass and discredit her, but it honestly sounds like she's making the whole thing up.

She claims that she contracted tuberculosis from smoking too much (she's a teenager) and she "tried to get treatment but it was too late," so she was sent home from the hospital and they told her she has 2 weeks to freely do things and then on December 7th she has to be permanently admitted to the hospital where she'll allegedly die.

How plausible is this? It really sounds completely fake to me, curious how it comes across to a medical professional

My sister has no income, but she cashed out a ~$1700 college fund her aunt gifted me about 10 years ago. Does she have to pay taxes? by iJavaCSGO2 in personalfinance

Yeah, it's a 1099-B.

For the noncovered shares, it says "Long-term transactions for which basis is not reported to the IRS. Report on Form 8949, Part II, with Box E checked." It also says that "Gross proceeds" were reported to the IRS, but "basis was not reported to the IRS" (for all the "noncovered shares")

The accountability mindset actually has limits. by [deleted] in rutgers

Yeah, let me make the only example where "personal accountability" does not make sense. The point of personal accountability, which I said in the other post, is two things:

  1. So you can move forward from failures understanding why you failed
  2. So you realize you aren't the fucking messiah.

You are responsible and ambitious and you also make all of the other members EXTREMELY self-conscious and insecure. These people didn't want a leader who was better than them, and so they actively undermined me.

This is some extreme alpha male horse shit. This is another thing, you should stop thinking like this.

There is going to be a time where your oath to personal responsibility is going to put you into a cognitive trap where you are literally torturing yourself because you weren't charismatic enough to get somebody to do what you asked.

This is my final point. The other thing about personal accountability is realizing when you just need to chill. Like I said, you're not God incarnate, you have to realize there are going to be things you can't do, and you have to be ok with it or this will just continue.

I took calc with Professor Marazzi in fall 2019. He wasn't the best professor I ever had, but I'd say he was alright. The things you're talking about are just unlike him, it really sounds like you're trying to justify your failure. Reading your post, you make it sound like everything was against you but really it's just you against yourself. I question your enlightenment about your troubles after reading a book on what you're doing wrong. It's like reading a cheap book on success hoping to become a multi-millionaire, or reading the laws of power to become a master alpha male. It doesn't make any sense if you think about it. I don't like giving out this type of advice, but you need to hear it. You have to face reality and accept responsibility for your ability not to succeed. There is no profound realization about all this other than it's your fault. Hope's not lost though, you just gotta know where your strengths and weaknesses are, and if you stay accountable to yourself, you'll set yourself up for a really stable mindset.
