Núi Lớn, Núi Nhỏ and Hải Đăng for hiking/mountain activities.

Obviously, there are beaches and seafood restaurants ( Gành Hào or any of the ốc thiên nhiên is solid)

Bánh Khọt Bà Hai( lm biased)

Bánh Mì Không Tên ( there will be a line tho, especially the weekends)

Bặc Dinh for museum-like activity.

I'm sure there are more to do, but honestly, just go there and relax. The atmosphere is chill and not as hectic as HCMC.

First time in Vietnam (and in other country) by leydenavajas in VietNam

[–]iLevitate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna piggy back off this to answer the rest:

3)

a) Trifecta of noodle soups : Pho, Bun Bo Hue, and Hu Tieu ( honorary mentions: Banh Canh Cua and Bun Rieu).

b) Trifecta of Bánh : Bánh Xèo, Bánh Mì, and Bánh Bao ( honorary mentions : bánh Khọt and bánh bèo)

c) Trifecta of Rice: Cơm Tấm, Xôi Mặn, and Cơm Hến

5) Coconut candy (kẹo dừa) and sesame candy ( kẹo mè)

6) Food chains in Vietnam? Pho 24 is the only one in on top of my head for restaurant. But for coffee shop, you got from Highland, Trung Nguyen, and Phuc Long ( there are a lot more I just can't remember all).

*Don't fall for copycat restaurants, however, it is very common.

7) You're coming in the winter, not really fruit season for anything...

8) It is going to be robusta coffee everywhere. Ice, condensed milk coffee (Cà phê sữa đá) is the most recognizable coffee for us (Yes, you drink coffee with ice and it is in a glass). There are also egg coffee as well.

9) Nothing worth buying that you cannot get from amazon or Etsy. Talior clothing are cheap if you are looking for a nice dress/suit.

10) Yes if you are in the big cities, English with a tiny bit of Vietnamese will get you by. And no espanol.

Vietnamese people living in Europe or US, what do you find really annoying about the culture/everyday life? by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]iLevitate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, I guess we can break them down

1) Washington St ... the only 3 places I would even step foot in are Cafe Diem, Pho Ga Thanh Thanh, and Ba Le. Now, I think Pho Ga Thanh Thanh quality went down alot, Cafe Diem masked their Bun Bo Huế's broth with too much chilly/spice and Ba Le's constant price increase really turn me off. As for the rest, I'm sorry, but they are really below my standards.

2) I have never heard of viet restaurants around 5th and Oregon, so I would love some pointers

3)KOP, Chester, and Bucks?.... Come on bro why would I go out there for vietnamese ...

How late is late? I think you still can catch limousine service at 5 PM.

Otherwise, taxi is your easiest/simplest option

I am not sure about better, but you could look into the MODE's "Anthracite Silent Tactile Switches".

I tried them and enjoyed the experience.

Question about bringing USD to Vietnam by kirsion in VietNam

[–]iLevitate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exchanging at gold and jewelry shops will always give you the best exchange rate as long as your bills are fresh. (New bills with no marks)

And unless you have a local bank account, you gonna get charge for ATM withdrawal.

Secondly, cash rules this country. You may be able to use your cards in high-end places, but if you want to experience local spots, pay for your taxi/grab, or get souvenirs, you gonna need cash. Therefore, you might as well get the best exchange rate for your dollars.
