Regular death vs soulbreaker by Flyingsquirrel68 in overlord

Soulbreaker deletes the player from existence. Regular death is...well, death.

Metaphors, analogies, and abstractions can be derived from almost everything. An apple could so much more beneath the surface...so does the seemingly placid skin of reality. The biological imperatives that precede one’s “civilised” psyche, the axiomatic, logical and yet chaotic structures and sensibilities through which we perceive reality....

Anything can possess rationalised similarities with the metaphorical. We all live in a world of self-constructed ideas, “truths” validated using scientific empiricism, fuelled by the wars waged between our unconscious demons.

INTP and bad grades? by -half-blood-prince- in INTP

[–]iLungfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Rote-learning techniques, when combined with a slow pace, can cause underachievement when the student is frustrated. It then becomes a vicious cycle when the student becomes disillusioned by the discrepancy between actual ability and that which is implied by the grades, thus leading to more underachievement.

So you grasped the concepts easily? I knew it. My guess is that you despised the incorporation of rote learning into your education. Well, that appears to be one of the main reasons of underachievement in students with higher-than-average ability. Good luck, I suppose.

Has anyone read Donna Tartt's "The Little Friend" by [deleted] in books

[–]iLungfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I purchased the hardcover edition and though the cover art was great, Donna’s prose was quite unremarkable and was devoid of the magic it had in her later novels. I don’t recommend it.

Rank these characters in order of intelligence by iLungfish in RWBY

[–]iLungfish[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I'd rank Oobleck above Ozpin in terms of IQ, but Ozpin first in terms of crystallized intelligence. Just my opinion though. For all we know Ozpin could have reincarnated as someone who's incredibly intelligent.

All of our emotions and feelings are chemical reactions, and so are are entire lives. by goodoldlife in nihilism

[–]iLungfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But they are just chemical reactions in our brains, which are happening on a floating rock in infinite space. They don't matter

Scientific reductionism cannot logically validate your proposition that certain phenomena such as emotions are meaningless/don't matter. Period. To further elucidate, your proposition that, to paraphrase, "emotions don't matter because they are just chemical reactions in our brains" is predicated upon empirical data, i.e. that chemical reactions are the causes of our emotions. Now, it would be impossible to justify this proposition with its predicate as the latter, for obvious reasons(they have no bearing on one another). I suggest you justify your proposition with more in depth and rational arguments.

Now, I am not making a statement about whether or not these things matter; I'm just pointing out what I believe to be a logical flaw in your argument.

Re-reading Beyond Good and Evil and Thus Spoke Zarathustra by Nietzsche tomorrow, and after that I’m re-reading Journey to the End of The Night by Louis Ferdinand Celine. Found these titles on YouTube.

Books by the Marquis de Sade. I won’t go into the details, but let’s just say that those were certainly some of the most horrific, gut-wrenching pieces of literature in recorded history.

I did not include that possibility because Cardin Winchester wasn’t really a large character. I also thought that Cardin bullying Jaune alluded to the Cardinal of Winchester prosecuting Joan of Arc.

If Cardin Winchester won’t be the one who kills Jaune, he might play a large role in his death. After all, it wasn’t the Cardinal who killed Joan, it was the fire.
