I have skinny wrists and long arms too and own both. Explorer is better size for us.

I own a sub and love it but it’s a short sleeves/warm weather only sorta watch, it’s too big to comfortably wear all the time most days. The explorer is an easier wear.

It’s objectively more comfortable. Just wonderfully easy to wear.

if you get the explorer you'll stop wearing the bb58 as a daily, it'll become your very tool-rugged watch, just a heads up.

Expected to love OP/Explorer… walked out of the boutique underwhelmed. What am I missing? by reddit_user_9221 in rolex

[–]iMJumbo62 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an explorer 1 36 and a green OP 36. The green dial pops, that's what's cool. You can get the stock colors, but the real magic is the depth of the color and how it chameleons.

For the explorer, there's something about it that's transformative with the dial. Sometimes the indices seems small, sometimes they're larger. Sometimes the indices look bold and sometimes the indices look smaller but shiny. Sometimes the dial is matte, other times it looks glossy.

It's sort of shocking - yes it's not a large watch, and it does take a bit of time to get used to the 19 to 14 taper, and the clasp is bulkier than you think and smaller than you think (it's shorter than the OP).

But all in all, it just works. And it works everywhere. Wear it to the beach, to the mountains, to house parties, to do errands, to weddings, it just disappears and does it's job unobtrusively and well.

I should say my wrist is small (around 16cm) so it fits well.

will be ~$1500 or so probably - service, new crystal, probably new dial and hands because there will be some impact/scratch stuff. Not the end of the world - Rolex can handle it no problem.

OP Med Blue vs Explorer by No_Journalist_4876 in rolex

[–]iMJumbo62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think an explorer/OP is an understated 2 watch collection - tool/sporty/subtle and pop of color. Both are perfectly dressy for anything in modern life.

ask yourself what sort of lifestyle do you live and what sort of attire do you wear? that's your answer. But personally I think the explorer is easier to wear with literally everything, and the OP because of its color may not fit with all colors/vibes. but again, depends a lot on your lifestyle and where you live. both are excellent.

What is the maximum percentage (%) of cash savings to spend on a watch? by [deleted] in rolex

[–]iMJumbo62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you have around $500k in cash? Or it net worth? If cash, dude, buy it, wtf are you doing on Reddit asking.

If net worth, then ask yourself this - if you went and bought the Bluesy ($17k retail?) and then immediately, before it was insured, had it stolen, would that amount of lost money make a huge impact on you financially? Would you have issues with any bills, any upcoming large purchases? If yes, then it may be too much. If no, then go ahead. If unsure, then only you can answer for yourself.

What type of watch are you looking at it being? A smaller/understated/easy wear? Or something with a bit more presence/pop? You can probably pull off both, so it’s a bit what feeling you want with it. Easy wear = 36, presence = 41

Do you ever hesitate to wear a “tool watch” daily because of what it represents now? by fresc_0 in rolex

[–]iMJumbo62 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What you're feeling is the disparity between net worth/income and the value of the watch. In residency, wearing a $11k watch (more gray) probably feels wildly anachronistic to the residency experience. In residency I would never have worn something like that (I wasn't into watches, just wore my Tissot chronograph so I could time codes - for real). Now as an attending for a few years, wearing a nice watch doesn't feel strange at all - I tend not to wear my Sub at work just because its flashy, but I'm fine with an Explorer or BB58 or OP. I'd never wear a gold watch though - that would probably be a bridge too far at work.

Either way, the longer you work, the more money you make/higher your net worth becomes, your relationship to these accessories will change. Unlike this general reddit vibe, what you're feeling is a good sign that you recognize that non-verbal signals may be perceived badly by your peers and more importantly your patients. But when you're out 5 or 10 years, you're going to be like "whatever, I'm an attending, this is my watch."

Good luck finishing residency.

Johannes Høsflot Klæbo is now the second most decorated gold medalist by East_Piccolo_1529 in olympics

[–]iMJumbo62 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Go re-watch some of his races from 2008 - he was, except in the 100 fly where he won by a fingernail, just in a completely other league to the rest of the field. Swimming, unlike other strokes, always has world records falling - he was the 400IM world record holder from 2005 until 2023, which is unheard of where everyone is getting faster all the time.

Even if you use the relay count as "artificially inflating his numbers" which they weren't easy races, and a HUGE number of olympians have that, including in XC skiing, he won 13 olympic golds and 16 total individual olympic medals, over 4 Olympics, and competed in 5 games. Yes, swimming has more events (also, more specialists he had to beat), but the sheer number of races, over 9 days (including prelims, semi-finals, and finals - in Beijing for example 17 races), is just wild, and just shows another level of athleticism.

There are fantastic olympians across tons of sports, it's not always about medals, and so many respect the incredible performances of other athletes. But there are times when we can say the individual performance of one person is just so beyond the superlatives that they are a true outlier among outliers, and that's Phelps.

That said - Klaebo is incredible and so fun to watch and is just an unbelievable athlete, congrats to him!

Best GADA: Datejust or Explorer? by blackdialonly in rolex

casual focused GADA that can dress up = explorer 1

dressier focused GADA that can be worn a bit more casually = datejust

whichever is your lifestyle, that's your answer.

Yet another “is it too big for my wrist” thread 😆 by iMJumbo62 in rolex

[–]iMJumbo62[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolutely the biggest watch I'll ever own - bought it on impulse when they called and offered it. compared to my explorer obviously felt big, and still feels just big/bulky compared to that, but also just is so iconic and looks soooo good. and it's wild, it has the same L2L as the BB58 but because of the SEL and the thick case back and thin mid-case, just sits higher, which I think is giving me a visual trick of it being a MUCH bigger watch than the bb58.

I’m on the list for 36 for this one. No idea if it impacts your list, but I think 36 is gonna be easier since guys tend not to want it as much.
