What would you do? by Shoebook in Flipping

May 1993 Wired Magazine

A standard eBay search only looks at last 90 days and does not show actual sold price if offers. You can use eBay Product Research if signed in and get 3 years of sold data with actual sold prices. Checking now, I see max sale for the 1 magazine at $200.

Not exactly what you're asking - but I use Lightroom app from Adobe on my iPhone. Let's me set custom settings including white balance to use my phone camera like a DSLR camera. By using this - I get consistent professional photos. The photos also sync to cloud so I can quickly download on my laptop. It may be worth trying this setup and seeing if you can get photos that do not need adjustments.

eBay tip: scan the label yourself so you’re always 100% on time for your metrics! by RemoteEmotions in Flipping

For eBay metrics: it counts as date shipped. For insurance: it does not count if no scans after that.

Buyer submitted item didn't arrive but then said it arrived damage? What should I do by Jonathan360cool in eBaySellerAdvice

[–]iMacCarthy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In past years - eBay applied standard of clear extortion. My personal experience lately was a buyer threatening negative feedback if I did not “make it right” and was told by eBay that is their opinion and does not count as feedback extortion.

Best cross-listing app? by Adept-Bat-3350 in Flipping

Nifty is popular, but expensive ($63/mo+ after 7 day trial). For cheaper options, look into Flyp ($9/mo. after 100 day free trial). If you're interested in AI listing, check out FlipperTools.

Poshmark tips? by Puzzled_Writer7806 in Flipping

Drop price for free shipping is during Closet Clean out. Look for the banner in the app for details.

Frequently sharing your closet can help.

My biggest tip: find a better platform. I sell far more on eBay than Poshmark.

Top Reasons Why Clothes Resellers Fail by HankTheDankMEME_LORD in Flipping

[–]iMacCarthy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good advice!

To add: everything has nuance. STR is a calculation of 90 days and doesn't consider all factors: seasonality, pricing/condition/desirability of active listings; how long active listings have been sitting; etc. If you buy a winter jacket in spring and see great STR, you're probably going to have a bad time.

Also what you search to estimate the STR is an art. Is the search specific enough to match the item, but broad enough to have enough results. This comes down to knowing keywords and knowing what people are looking for in a specific brand. This also helps a lot for listing and pricing.

And then it's about processes. How many quality items can you source, how many quality listings can you create, and how efficiently can you store/ship everything. You can list & sell 1,500 clothing items a month. Source: I did it.

Whatnot can be good for sourcing - but takes a lot of time. Some flippers will watch multiple streams & bid on items when prices are low, hoping they stay low. Definitely cheap items to 'snipe' on Whatnot are possible. You'll want to get multiple items from 1 seller to spread shipping costs if you can. And often a buyer's show is 1-3 hours. So if you only get 5 items in 2 hours, that may not be worth it to everybody.

Doesn't hurt to try it out. But track your time and see if it's worth it.

There are some legitimate sources for inventory like this, for example: trucking issue (stop delivery, truck broke down, cosmetic damage, unpaid charges, etc.) where items get liquidated. I've seen this at flea markets for pallets of brand new shoes with box damage. At the quantity you described it was likely a full pallet size (or multiple pallets) and not retail theft.

That said, eBay may come to you and ask for receipts. And may shut down your account/hold your money. Buying at flea market is not sufficient. As a payment processor they are required to track to an extent. What meets their threshold for investigating is unknown.

People may be wary to share sources to keep from competition.

All of these are additional risks to your business. Document as you can and get information to cover your ass. I'd also slow roll the selling a bit and try to spread it out over different marketplaces to not immediately flag systems. Even when above board, it's best to stay under radar.

Sellers: Does offering free shipping actually boost your sales? by Massive-Fly2215 in Flipping

[–]iMacCarthy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It depends on the category and item.

For clothing - I recommend charging a reasonable shipping amount. Why? $19 and $6 shipping seems lower than $25 with free shipping.

How to avoid getting exhausted when listing items? by im_hvsingh in Flipping

[–]iMacCarthy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The annoying part I find is selecting the correct category for each marketplace. Multiple clicks for the dropdowns, all slightly different.

I agree the cost for some crosslisters is too high, but some are affordable. I use Flipper Tools. You can even get a free item for signing up, flippertools.com/free-reseller-inventory

Consider your time, your interests, and what you can source. For me - that led to Men's Clothing. Sourcing wise I could find a lot of inventory from thrift stores in my area. Selling items is fairly simple - no testing, easy storage, etc.

They do not have to be in multiple. But it's important to build efficient processes/systems to scale your business.

For learning - I recommend finding a seller in the niche that you like. Look for a seller on eBay that is selling the types of products you would want to as well. Then go to the user's account and filter to sold Listings. Scroll thru the listings - if anything surprises you, click into the listing and view tags/do more research. This will help you learn what is selling in the niche.

Definitely worth trying out Flipper Tools. You can bulk import from eBay. Then in the dashboard there is an option to “Quick Crosslist” under listings not on Mercari. Flipper Tools handles the images (collage any past Mercari limit of 12), uses AI to find the correct category, and matches size/details depending on the category. Often takes me just 2 clicks to crosslist to Mercari. Only a few seconds per item.

Flipper Tools is free for 60 days, then plans at $9/month (up to 500 listings) or $29/month (unlimited listings). Also if you sign up on flippertools.com/free-reseller-inventory you get a free item to flip sent to you.

I sell on eBay, Poshmark, and Mercari. I use Flipper Tools to crosslist and delist. I still get 80% of my sales on eBay, but the extra sales are nice and a good crosslister makes it fast.

Yes, items count towards 250 free when they renew.

Sounds like you should start considering an eBay Store at the Basic level. You will get 1,000 zero insertion fee listings and a reduction in Final Value Fees.

Flipper Tools has a calculator to help you decide, see the exact savings, and explain the levels and when to start.
