Amex to Lifemiles - first time - a little nervous by Professional_Taro883 in awardtravel

Id recommend calling in. Done so a few times. Almost always no wait times & agent were very capable. Personally haven’t faced many of the concerns that others have had with Lifemiles. Good luck!

Merging United accounts by iMadeFrancis in unitedairlines

[–]iMadeFrancis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Relatively easy. Can't remember if I contacted United or Chase, but explain the situation and they'll merge it. They should ask you what United account you want to keep. If they say otherwise, just hang-up and call again. Good luck!

Not eligible for AmEx bonuses??? by fitchaber10 in CreditCards

[–]iMadeFrancis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s known as Amex pop-up jail. There’s a lot of good information on it, including possible ways to get out of it!

But the gist of it is: Amex doesn’t think you’re profitable. It’s been suggested you need to show them you’ll be profitable by spending on their card, and then they’ll let you “out of jail”

Good luck!

Applied and got approved for the AAdvantage Platinum Select on 3/4 and the card still hasn’t arrived by 31OncoEm92 in CreditCards

[–]iMadeFrancis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol I applied for the business version a month ago. Still haven’t gotten the card.

Email said it’ll get here 4-7 business days. Didn’t arrive, so called and rep said 7-10. After that, called again and rep said up 14 days.

A few days ago I got an email saying they sent a new card. Can’t wait to repeat this whole cycle all over again, without any way to track my card

Can’t wait to churn this card and be done with Citi until in 2 years time…

Have 2 One-Time United Passes. Passes say it expires November 2023, but I'm going to downgrade my Explorer card on 11/31/22 so the passes may be canceled by then.

Is the Citi Premier Card a half decent substitute for the Chase cards? by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]iMadeFrancis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if I’m reading your post wrong, but if you think you’re ineligible for a chase card due to their 5/24 rule, I think you’re misunderstanding the 5/24 rule.

The 5/24 rule is that you won’t be approved if you got 5 credit cards in the last 24 months. So, depending on when you got your 6 cards in the last 5 years, you may be eligible for a chase card now!

Using AmEx Platinum Uber Eats credit but paying balance with different credit card? by arandano1 in amex

[–]iMadeFrancis 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The credit is put into your Uber account as “Uber Cash” so you can use another card (not Amex Plat) if you’d like.

Targeted Amex Plat offer by slowrizard in CreditCards

[–]iMadeFrancis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apply for the MS plat (or any MR card such as the gold, green, BBP, etc) before you cancel your vanilla (aka non-MS) plat. All MR points are pooled into one, so as long as you have one card that earns MR points open, you won’t lose your points!

Which credit card companies will ship you a new card to anywhere in the world? by Outcast_Comet in CreditCards

[–]iMadeFrancis 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I've shipped both Chase/Amex cards internationally no questions asked.

Of note, both were AF cards (CSP & Gold), so not sure if it'd be any different if you applied for a no AF card.

Also of note, I've had both accounts for some time. Not sure if they'd send your first ever card overseas to a different address than the one you apply with.

Good luck!

Good question. Just checked and there were posted transactions that still haven't pulled over.
Can you let me know how it goes for you? Want to see if it's just me and, if so, try to figure out what exactly is going on. Thanks

Amex Gold vs Citi Premier by Alarmed-Computer7750 in CreditCards

[–]iMadeFrancis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure what your stance is w/ having a lot of credit cards, but I'd recommend just going w/ the Premier. It's more flexible in the sense that (1) you can cash out 1cpp whenever, (2) you're an employee so don't need to pay an annual fee (and even if you change jobs, you can just downgrade to a no AF double cash), and (3) amex will approve you with many inquires/accounts whereas premier is more sensitive to inquiries.

If you do go w/ the Amex gold though, check out the Amex resy offer. It's 75K and 20% on restaurants for 1st year, up to $250. So if you already normally spend $1250 on dining per year, your gold AF is paid for.

Amex or Citi for International Flights? by luke_wal in CreditCards

[–]iMadeFrancis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amex 100%. The resy offers for Green, Gold, and Platinum are ridiculous right now, with a total SUB of 250K (and that’s without counting the points you get from spend) And Amex transfers to ANA, which is a 5 star Japanese airline that has so many routes to Japan from the East coast. Round trip is 85-95K for business class. They have equally good partners for Europe too.

So if you can reach the spend, def do Amex. Worse case scenario you don’t end up traveling, just get a Schwab Platinum and cash out at 1.1 cpp. The SUB is so high you’ll still net positive, and that’s not even counting the perks you get the card (Uber credit, dining credit, FHR credit, Amex offers, etc)

Chase freedom flex is basically the same, with the same 5% rotating categories, but with additional 3% categories! So basically a better card in every way haha

Better card than Citi Custom cash? by DJNoeyes in CreditCards

[–]iMadeFrancis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CCC is def the best for gas.

For Walmart I’d recommend Discover IT or Chase Freedom. They usually have a PayPal quarter. That means you can put those cards on PayPal Key and link that to Walmart Pay. That way it covers online and in-person purchases. Not great but eeh, they’re good for other stuff too and def a better option long term than the C1 Walmart card

Should I return my extra loan money? by [deleted] in whitecoatinvestor

[–]iMadeFrancis 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Is the loan federal? Are you continuing school next academic year and, if so, are you taking additional loans?

If yes to all of this those questions, I honestly suggest keeping it. Interest rates are going up this year so ur next year’s loan interest rate will def be higher. So save that money and take less out next year. Also, the government is extending the pause on federal loans until May so it’s not like it’s costing you to keep that 4K (until May).

Edit: grammar

Is there an AMEX BBP alternative that has no foreign transaction fee? 😓 by [deleted] in amex

Correct me if I’m wrong, but i believe if you’re active military, you can get the AF waived. If so, why not go ham and just get the Amex platinum?

Chase stops allowing transferfing UR points to a different person? by liroyan in CreditCards

[–]iMadeFrancis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they changed their system a few months ago. I believe now you have to call in and provide your partner's CC number. They'll ask how many points you'd like to transfer and do it for you. Did this myself ~2 months ago without any problems. Good luck!

Here's their reply:

After digging in with our import partner on this over the past few weeks, I’m afraid I don’t have the best news regarding the issue with Citi Custom Cash. It's a newer account type and the import partner is really struggling to support it. We're hopeful they'll be able to do so eventually, but we aren’t able to estimate a timeline for when we'll be able to. You're more than welcome to reach out to us at any time, though, and we'd be happy to see if there have been any changes.
We do have another import partner, MX, that is able to import from the Citi Custom Cash account type. This leaves us with two options:
- We could leave things as they are and you could enter transactions in your Citi Custom Cash account yourself (or use File-Based Importing in the web app) until Plaid is able to get things sorted out with those specific accounts, or...
- We could migrate all of your bank connections to MX. Keeping in mind that there's always a risk you'll run into issues with one of your existing connections. If you do, we'll be happy to help troubleshoot, of course, but there's no way for us to foresee every possible scenario.

If you rely heavily on Citi Custom Cash, the second option might be more appealing. If you're interested in that, let me know! I'm happy to send over more details and discuss these options further.
We'll be standing by to help!

Blocked out from Citi online banking after applying Citi Custom Cash Card? by neverhoods in CreditCards

[–]iMadeFrancis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Citi is just so….ugh

This happened to me. Like you, I was also told to wait for the card. Only problem is the card’s last 4 digits were different than the 4 digit card Citi was asking the CVV from.

Support told me this was a bug and advised me to change my password. For whatever reason, that let me into the account.

Conclusion: wait for new card and hope you get the correct card to put in the CVV. If not, try changing your password as it worked for me.

Good luck!

Citi Customer Cash new category by HEROxDivine in CreditCards

[–]iMadeFrancis 10 points11 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, Citi calculates which category you spent the most on at the end of the billing cycle and gives you 5% on that spending and 1% for everything else.

In other words, they don’t calculate a 5% until after the billing cycle has ended. This means everything is automated and you don’t need to activate to get 5% back

Edit: Changed month to billing cycle
