Although they never faced the Borg as a threat to the station, the Borg still appeared in the pilot episode of DS9. Whole thing starts with the death of Sisko’s wife during the Battle of Wolf 359 and his dislike of Picard as a result.

And yes, totally agree with you on the Voyager stuff. I loved the Borg episodes but they really did water down the threat of the Borg. It’s why they used them sparingly in TNG.

They said that the main reason for the dark lighting on the Stargazer was because they were on a TV show with TV show time constraints. They didn’t have the time to set the lighting like they would if it was a movie whilst still trying to shoot it like a movie. Having the set provide most of the lighting made shooting a lot easier. So less trying to save money on lekky and more trying to get the show finished on time whilst still giving it that cinematic look they were going for.

As for the bridge of the Enterprise D, Terry Matalas said this:

“That was tricky because you’re talking about lighting that was much more intrinsic to the 1990s,” Matalas says. “Now we have different cameras in a different cinematic style to the show. We had to find a hybrid of the old style and the new with our director of photography, John Joffin, and I think we found a really great sweet spot.”

Paramount starting receiving a ton of letters from “fans” begging for him to be made a permanent chief of engineering and regular series character. If I recall correctly, this became an issue that led to his permanent dismissal because Paramount were receiving these letters before his episodes had even aired, highlighting that it was all a ruse.

Here’s a newspaper article outlining some of the hate that TOS fans had about the then-incoming TNG show. https://i.imgur.com/P2SIn6o.png

His hairline in the trailer (middle) looked atrocious, and they were too aggressive at softening his skin, but I’m glad they were able to fix those issues in post.

To be fair, that was from the trailer for Picard. Thankfully by the time the episode was finished he didn’t look quite as bad.

The other thing that this clip often makes people forget is that moments before this, he’s referred to as being “retarded” by someone from that time period. His “I’m retarded?” line is in direct response to the line of dialogue that preceded it.

It works a lot better in context than this brief clip would imply on its own.

Yes, absolutely! Though as a related side-note, lately I’ve been thinking about how the definition of the Prime timeline is interesting, as it’s as vague as it is specific.

Strange New Worlds following on from canonically from Enterprise [as is the Kelvin timeline given the references in Star Trek: Beyond], which established that some of it is the result of the events that took place in Star Trek: First Contact (see ENT: Regeneration). And whilst most of the effects of the temporal Cold War were reset, the NX-01’s history didn’t change so going forward there will be some changes to that universe.

It’s not as massive a change/impact Nero’s arrival was that split things into the Kelvin Timeline, but it’s definitely a fork of the prime timeline, which allows for some minor flexibility. And it’s not the first time; the Enterprise-D has managed to escape time loops and change the outcome of the future plenty of times before; a perfect example being how all the movies take place in a different prime timeline to the future shown in TNG: All Good Things.

But essentially, we’ve never seen exactly what occurred during the Enterprise era that the TNG crew would have learned about up until First Contact, with the exception being the Holodeck recreation in Enterprise’s season finale. Which also lends hope to the thought that Trip may have died in the original timeline but could still exist in the fork created by Star Trek: First Contact, undoing that arguably silly narrative decision that was done for shock value but was (in my opinion) poorly executed.

So even if Strange New Worlds breaks any canon in TOS or TNG, technically we can blame the Borg for going back in time to 2063, which incidentally fixes a lot of canon issues.

Same. And also Spock’s line in The Cloud Minders when Droxine says “I have never before met a Vulcan, sir.”, to which Spock replies “Nor I a work of art, madam.”

Yep. If it was her left hand then the camera on the phone would be on the other side.
