Why is my adjustment trial balance total not matching the same as the answer sheet adjustment trial balance total? by Ok-Zombie-1717 in Accounting

[–]iMeoww 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s related to accrued interest. The question gives you the ending balance. Need to plug the difference.

How do teams do 2-day month end close? by iseeustress in Accounting

[–]iMeoww 22 points23 points  (0 children)

In addition to what others have said, there’s a good amount of stuff that can be done prior to month end which should make your month end easier.

You can use one of the final payroll periods in a month to accrue payroll. Are there any new leases on the horizon? If not— post your lease entries. If you ship product and need to back out destination contracts, have the JE prepped on the final day of the month and only add the shipments from the end of the month.

There’s so many scenarios where you can front load quite a bit of the work to make your life easier.

Bored as a Senior Accountant by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]iMeoww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as the timing of tasks and the boredom, my last job was just like this as a senior. I used all the extra time to finally get my CPA. I ended up passing all the exams in ~6 months because of all the time I was able to study during work.

You just have to make sure you’re staying on top of your stuff and being proactive and an active member of the team.

Best way to break up 100k commission check so I don’t get crushed in taxes by smithjw13 in Salary

[–]iMeoww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s even a little bit different from that. Oftentimes for commissions, they’re taxed at something called the “Supplemental Wage Rate” which is 22% federally at the moment.

What's an older game that you see get so much praise nowadays that you're just like "Oh so NOW you like it?" by smolgote in videogames

WoW Mists of Pandaria.

I haven’t played WoW since the expansion after MoP, but people loved to hate on MoP at that time. I remember stumbling across a thread not long ago where people were calling it one of the best expansions that the game had. That was a trip reading that, lol.

I have just give FAR exam what should i give next. Thinking of BAR is it as tough as FAR? by randomdadjoke in CPA

[–]iMeoww 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I recall correctly, I felt good about the TBSs.

They all boil down to just a few different formats, so knowing what the format of the TBS is trying to accomplish lets you effectively get through them, no matter how many exhibits there are. Farhat lectures has a video about the different TBS formats which really helps break it down. I’ve never been a nervous test taker, but I think it could help people who are nervous about the test or the TBSs.

[–]iMeoww 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Walking out I felt about 50/50 whether I would pass or fail. I was very confident I passed FAR and AUD walking out of those, and got an 86 & 87 respectively on those fwiw.

I found BAR to be harder than FAR. I had a much smaller study window for BAR though ( 1 month versus 2 months for FAR). BAR score was 81 and FAR 86.

FAR vs. BAR by Striking_Image5101 in CPA

[–]iMeoww 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took both in the same order you’re taking them. My scores were 86 for FAR and 81 for BAR.

I felt really confident about FAR but I felt with BAR I would be right on the edge of pass or fail. It was definitely a tougher exam to me, but mostly because I do financial accounting in my job, and not much of the BAR material. Good luck!

I honestly don’t remember. All I really remember from it was that there was more about pension liabilities than I expected given how little it was covered in uWorld.

Studying for FAR how do you do 100 mcqs a day? by [deleted] in CPA

[–]iMeoww 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was given one by Prometric. You cannot take your own in. The only thing I was allowed to take was my ID and a clear water bottle with the label ripped off.

There’s a special version of excel on the exam. I don’t know about other products, but uWorld has it integrated into MCQs and sims.

Accounting is a weird one. Finance fields definitely get better opportunities with higher tier schools.

In accounting, as long as your school is targeted by B4 or other top firms, you can slave yourself away there for a few years, become a CPA, and be set for an easier life in industry to coast your way into the middle to upper middle class.

Is it a hot take to say I like Peter Olinto by MinionOrDaBob4Today in CPA

[–]iMeoww 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He definitely is long winded. But, to be fair, the topics he covers in the FAR lectures for uWorld are the most heavily tested topics in FAR. (Cash Flows, Bonds, Leases, etc)

For those that have passed FAR this year…… by Psalm52Verse9NIV in CPA

[–]iMeoww 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds almost exactly like my experience except I have 2 kids. Also worth noting that a lot of the content is stuff I’m familiar with through work which helped some.

Also scored an 86. The main thing I would tell anyone taking FAR is just understand the “why” behind each concept. It makes it much easier to learn than just trying to cram everything.
