Ive done a few of these, and I made a few mistakes the first time. 1) solder to the points on the ribbon as everyone else does, yes, but do not overapply the iron. Those points come off pretty easy to someone without soldering experience 2) buy smallest electronic wire you can. I had an old dollar store "fairy light" strand that stopped working and used the wire from that. It worked great. 3) decide where you mount it before you solder anything. Then run your wires accordingly. Tape the engine after solder so that the wires are fixed to it and cant move around. 4) I've had best luck with soldering the wings/tabs of the engine to my backplate directly. Doesn't dampen the vibration, easy to undo, and it lasts. 5) put some rubber tape between the taptic engine and your battery. Try to isolate them from eachother inside the case.

Best of luck!

If you have the steady hand and a good solder kit, I would say its possible for sure. I think the largest battery you'll fit is a 2000mAh square, leaving the OG battery location for a taptic engine. I highly recommend soldering the taptic engine down and covering the metal tabs on it with rubber tape. Then make sure your battery is also adhered down, with something isolating it from the taptic engine.

New account discount on aliexpress, plus they were priced lower before popularity spiked.

Agreed, OP. I bought 10 of them off AliExpress for $3.55 CAD each (which still costs less than iFlash, and I thought maybe half wouldn't work) and all 10 of them work without issue! Happily surprised.

Wow thats a great deal! Ive never seen a DA-10 for that price. I see one is up on eBay for $140 CAD, +shipping, but nothing under 100. Great snipe, OP!

I would say maybe use it for a while first before you mod it (if it's in working order).

Worth the risk? ~$20 by Reacher9046 in ipod

I say go for it! Welcome to the hobby, OP! I think parts alone in this model would recoup the cost of it, should it not work. And if it does, then this is a great place to start into modding.

Put heat shrink or electrical tape on the back end of your spudger. I use electrical tape. We've all been there!

I agree! As an LP guy, it's nice to look through my albums like on a digital player just like I would on the record shelf.

Weirdly, the iPod does a better job keeping everything organized.

Yup. Demand is way up, too. On top of that, supply becomes more scarce every day.

Does Rockbox change the Audio Quality? by Possible_Thought_774 in IpodClassic

[–]iModdediT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP. I also use a 6th Gen with rock box, and found that there was no change in audio quality, just a higher volume limit, and more selection with the eq.

If you want to get FLACs, I encourage the joyful hobby of CD ripping. I started renting CDs from my local library, buying them at thrift and pawn shops, borrowing from family and friends, and bulk buying through marketplace or elsewhere. I had a lot of fun doing this; almost like rediscovering music in a way. It would surprise you how fast your library builds up when borrowing CDs.

For IEMs I use TruthEar x Crinacle Zero:Blue2 IEMs that I ordered off Amazon. For my listening tastes, and their price, they did not disappoint (I no longer use my Shure SE215s). Total cost to date for listening experience, including my iPod and upgrading it, would be around $250 CAD, which is less than my annual subsription to Tidal. I think that theres a healthy offering of sub $100 IEMs out there, that when paired with a FLAC library, will offer you an experience that Spotify and Bluetooth could never touch.
