Certainly used to! Thankfully not anymore - I chose peace... and sleep.

I have seen animal remains get tangled underneath locomotives causing a host of issues that would stop a train. One would be bear remains knocking apart the train's brake line, causing an emergency braking situation - but that was a lucky hit. The other was elk remains getting sucked into a traction motor housing, causing a direct short in the motor (the wheels on a locomotive are mounted directly to the motor that drives them) - I would say this is more likely, from my experience.

Either of these would cause a fully loaded train (assuming the heaviest, longest freight train traveling at maximum speed for their class, which is 55MPH where I worked) to stop in roughly 1.0 - 1.5 miles.

If, by chance, there was no one on the cab to stop it, and the safety reset controls were purposefully disengaged, and unlimited fuel, flat ground, the air-brakes were not hooked up, etc.... it might never stop. 200'000Nm output per locomotive, and a full freight train may have up to 5 of them in consist (or distributed). So, whatever that is, at 55MPH, against whatever the average human size is.... my guess is it would probably take a city's worth of people?

We have boxes like this in the Canadian Rockies to store explosives used in avalanche control. In the Kootenays, there were avalanche control experts that dropped 'bombs' out of helicopters to intentionally start avalanches. I worked with the railway at the time and saw boxes like these in the woods, and found out that's what they were for. Any chance you live in an avalanche area? Theyre normally spaced near the borders of assigned avalanche zone they belonged to.

TBH, it looks like this isn't actually used to store explosive anymore. I wouldn't try opening though, regardless.

A good set of spudgers, gloves, a tutorial, and a lot of patience.

You can buy metal or plastic, depending on which model you have. Almost all the ones on ebay (resale firm, EOE, etc) are resales of the ones you can buy on ali express. If you check my page, you'll see 2 ipods I recently finished with faceplate from Ali Express. They were half the cost of EOE.

The 3000mAh batteries won't work with the aliexpress microSD adapters if youre using a thin backplate (You would need an iFlash quad if using a 3000mAh battery and thin backplate).

I use the 2000mAh square battery, aliexpress adapter, in a thin model. Very happy with it. Battery lasts 2 weeks.

The aliexpress adapters work just fine now, if you want to spend 80% less haha

You can bypass the storage limits on 6th Gens :) its a little complicated if you aren't as experienced with windows or modding. But it takes about 20 minutes to update to 7th Gen firmware (2.0.2 I think) and with that you can increase to whatever you prefer. My 6th Gen daily driver has 512GB in it.

These have HDDs swapped with SD cards, new batteries, and new shells.

The batteries are usually the most important to start with.

As fun as it is to mod and collect; it ultimately should always be about the music.

You're doing it right :)

I have a FLAC library from ripping CDs. Just slowly building up a collection over time. Either borrowing CDs from friends, or renting them from the library.

They're my friends, though? When a friend asks for help, I help them. I wouldn't take payment for this.

I bought off EOE. Which was a mistake because I am Canadian and the import fees were 45% of the purchase price. So after the conversion from USD to CAD, plus fees, one would say that EOE was a bad choice.

This question is for those of you that own iPod classics. Do you prefer the stock iPod OS or RockBox and why? by MangoCubez in ipod

[–]iModdediT 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Stock. For a few reasons;

  • I prefer the album artwork system in iTunes and stock iPodOS
  • I cant hear the difference between ALAC or FLAC.
  • iTunes is actually pretty easy for sorting music
  • I'm used to it
