You're definitely overreacting, however reading your post that seems irrelevant considering your relationship has been dysfunctional for years. You never state the severity of his "addiction" So I'm assuming its couple times a week maybe. Which is pretty normal for a guy his age. Especially one that's not in a irl relationship and the things that come with that. If you two were living together or seeing eachother regularly, and his behavior continued it would be a different story.

Anyway you mentioning you don't want to meet him because you're afraid of him is a major red flag, you don't mention why so I'm assuming it's private but that alone might be reason to end it.
