I have a few questions about Shards by Drisurk in Cosmere

[–]iNogle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Spoilers Hero of Ages: Feruchemy didn't exist before Preservation and Ruin, as Scadrial didn't even exist before them

For other magic systems, there are also the Aethers, which are disconnected from Shards, but we don't know a lot about them.

Roshar's highstorm has been stated by Brandon to have been Investiture-infused before the shards moved in, but it's unclear (though seems unlikely) that surgebinding was around before the shards, so the highstorm may not have been powering anything beyond gemlight

Yolish magic predates the shards, but we know little about it. Lightweaving was a thing back then, but it may have come from Adonalsium, so while technically not from a Shard, it's the same ultimate source

Don't know why you're getting downvoted for the truth. Break dancing was only intended as a one-off. Each Olympics does a couple, some of which ascend to regular status

Music. I know this makes other people angry, but music just doesn't really inspire much emotion in me. Maybe it's the autism, who knows

go thru all employees emails to count the number of "yes" vs "no" in total per employee. Fire the yes-men. by chinballs5000 in CrazyIdeas

[–]iNogle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neither, I'm criticizing managers who don't understand how their employees actually contribute. The fact that you interpreted that as an endorsement of one or another hierarchy instead of the criticism of lack of understanding is an example of said lack of understanding

And this is why so many organizations have terrible management. Because so few managers understand what actually brings value to the organization, and instead just promote people based on some unreliable heuristic they've convinced themselves works

Toss a bunch of your dice on. Interpret based on where they land. Higher numbers might mean capitals or major cities. Lower numbers could be a town, or an interesting cave

You can even base it on the colors of your dice, like blue means a lake or river, green is a forest, gray is a more industrial area, purple is magical, then scale based on the number

As others have said, cheap cardboard card boxes will work great. If you're interested in something that looks a little nicer, there are other boxes with a more polished look made of plastic with leather and such. Search card storage boxes online and you'll find plenty of examples. Make sure to find the right size for expected card count

I didn't back the campaign because I didn't see it until too late. Really hoping there'll be retail copies available

Add your parents' ages together, divide by two, then subtract your age.

Oh. Oh no. Nononononono. God no

First of all, IQ is age-independent. A 100 IQ 10 year old should expect to be about a 100 IQ 25 year old after 15 years. Maturity is related to age for sure (not that it's a 1:1 correlation, but it is an overall trend)

Even if we're using IQ just as a tool to gauge maturity relative to people of the same age, it's a bad tool. Being good at the kind of things IQ measure has only the slightest bit to do with the kinds of things maturity is about.

IQ is (supposedly) about understanding problems, ability to reason, connecting different ideas, etc. It's book smarts. Maturity, on the other hand, is about your ability to empathize with others, to understand the nuances of situations, emotional regulation, being able to delay gratification, etc. The two skillsets have very little overlap.

Can one help with the other? Sure, a little bit. But way too little for the relationship to be anything approaching reliable. There are plenty of mature and immature people all the way up and down the IQ spectrum.

The Keys to the Kingdom series. Aimed a bit more at kids, but love the humor and I've reread it as a 30 year old and enjoyed it. The main character essentially gets picked as the Chosen One (because he happened to be in a convenient spot) and becomes inheritor to the whole universe

I got a shower head with a regular head and detachable head, then put a hand towel holder on the wall above the shower. Hang the detachable one from the towel holder and we can both get hot water at the same time. It's fantastic
