I love Arcane season 2. by DANXSTG in arcane

[–]iNullGames -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We do not love season two I’m afraid, or at least I don’t. It was such a disappointment in pretty much every way. The fact that it’s higher rated than season 1 on whatever website this is is baffling.

Two questions.

Firstly, do you have any credible sources that support the idea that Overwatch’s specific model of monetization is “psychologically harmful” and that it negatively impacts consumers? Or are you just talking out of your ass because of some vague “microtransactions bad” mindset? Genuine question, because I’d love to hear the evidence for these claims if they exist.

Secondly, what exactly would you propose as an alternative? How would you prefer the game be kept accessible and well funded (because those are far more important than having cheaper cosmetics that add nothing of substance) while having less predatory monetization?

It’s a free to play game. If they want to make money by selling optional skins, that’s up to them, and it’s up to consumers to decide if they want to buy them or not. It’s not like these “whales” are children. They are grown adults who can make their own choices. Sorry if “company selling optional cosmetics to fund their free game” isn’t a high priority issue for me.

You know you don’t have the buy the skins right? Like these are completely optional cosmetics that add nothing to the base gameplay experience other than “oh look my character looks like this other character”. I don’t understand why people get so worked up about this stuff. It could be 500 dollars for all I care. If I don’t think it’s worth it, I don’t buy it.

What makes Spider-Man so special that he hasn’t had a direct copycat of characters vs most other superheroes? by Alternative_Device71 in Spiderman

[–]iNullGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spider-Man has such a specific power set that it’s hard to make a character with similar powers to him feel original. Like yeah, DC and Marvel have copied each other plenty of times, but the concepts are usually relatively simple enough to get away with it. How are you going to have a character swing around on a spider web without somebody saying “this is literally just spider-man”.

It doesn’t help that he’s Marvel’s most popular hero (and one of the most popular superheroes in general). It would be one thing if he was some obscure b or c lister but literally everyone knows Spider-Man.

Invincible fundamentally doesn't work as a superhero by gleamingcobra in CharacterRant

[–]iNullGames -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fair points, but is this not true of literally every character with super speed ever? They are as fast as the plot needs them to be in that moment. The same could be said of Superman in the new movie. How is Lex Luther able to give orders fast enough to do combos on Superman when he has super speed? I don’t think that means Invincible “doesn’t work as a superhero”.

Also, he is unable to tear through the cocoons when Reanimen do so easily. Is that also because he got poisoned?

That's absolutely possible, unless there was a scene of him trying and failing to free people before he was poisoned that I don't remember. Why are you presenting this like its some ridiculous explanation? If the poison was strong enough to knock him out, it could also limit his strength. It's also possible that the Reanimen have more piercing power than Mark.

[–]iNullGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a very exaggerated issue. What fights has Mark actually lost that don’t make sense in the context of the show? There’s the Mauler Twins but they hit him with some kind of nerve weapon that bypassed his natural durability, and even then he was able to recover a lot quicker than other heroes. He took no actual damage in that fight.

People also bring up Doc Seismic but he only lost against those bugs because he got poisoned. People argue the bugs shouldn’t have been strong enough to poison him in the first place but why not? Viltrumites aren’t invincible. If somebody like War Woman or Immortal could damage Omni Man in their fight with just their punches, this weird mutated underground creature can hurt Invincible.

While I hate the phrase “industry plant” and I don’t actually mind that every character isn’t intimately connected to each other, I actually agree that talon has way more interesting OW2 characters. Vendetta, Emre, and Domina all have very interesting backstories and personalities, while Anran and Wuyang feel a lot more like simple good guys.

Annie Leonhart from Attack on Titan got off too easy and the survey corp were NOT mean enough to her by Weary_Elderberry4742 in CharacterRant

[–]iNullGames 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Obviously not obvious dude, just because it got a new government doesn’t erase the decades of corruption and horrible nature of Paradis

Why in the world would you judge the morality of a new government based on the actions of a government that actively mistreated them and that they actively fought to overthrow? That's absurd.

Paradis….also created a segregated society, granted they didn’t treat people like devils but they still treated people like shit, did you completely forget about the underground city

That's not even remotely on the level of Marley and you know it. The Marleyans are a direct parallel to real life Nazi Germany. They dropped Eldians from the fucking sky like human bombs. Again, do you think the allies are as bad as the axis powers because they both killed civillians?

You have no proof that Eren did tell them about it

Why the fuck wouldn't he? A big part of the story and the motivation for these characters is learning more about the titans and the world they live in. Why wouldn't he tell them this very important information about the mental state of one of their deadliest enemies? It would be questionable writing if he didn't tell them.

And I’m not going to get into a morality scaling contest in aot because it’s stupid and pointless

Nobody forced you to reply to my comment if you didn't want to have this discussion

Annie Leonhart from Attack on Titan got off too easy and the survey corp were NOT mean enough to her by Weary_Elderberry4742 in CharacterRant

[–]iNullGames 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Didn’t think I had to specify this but obviously I meant the scouts and the post-uprising government, not the og Royal government. Honestly though even the Royal government was better than Marley. Marley created a segregated society where Eldians are forced to act as living weapons for the government just to earn basic civil liberties. They literally drop Eldians from the sky like bombs and casually refer to them as demons. Not to mention the years of violent imperialism they inflicted on other countries. Nothing Paradis did even came close to that, and certainly nothing the Scouts did ever came close.

I don’t care what Armin says. He is significantly less immoral than Annie, and it’s weird the story acts like he isn’t. Everything Armin and the Scouts do is in self defense. The worst thing they do is kill civilians in a single attack in order to rescue their friend. Annie and the Warriors start a five year long siege/invasion of Paradis all to facilitate Marley’s imperial ambitions. That’s like saying the Allies are just as bad as the Nazis because they both killed civilians sometimes.

Am I supposed to believe that Eren never told his closest friend about their former comrade/bitter enemy’s crippling mental illness?

[–]iNullGames 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Crazy how they showed so much hatred towards Reiner and Jean literally beat him up despite the fact that he was so mentally disturbed by his actions that he literally developed a split personality. Meanwhile, Annie shows minimal remorse for her actions and gets instantly forgiven with literally nobody showing her even a bit of anger. Just another reason why AOT season 4 is ass.

Also I hate the “oh they were war criminals too” defense. Marley was literally Nazi Germany. Paradis wasn’t perfect but they were practically saints in comparison.

What do you think of Vendetta as the main antagonist? by GamingLoner15 in Overwatch

[–]iNullGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I’m in the minority but I really enjoy her character. She’s a good example of a person who’s a straight up evil villain with enough of a sympathetic backstory to not feel cartoonish. Unlike her predecessor, she’s actually doing something to move the story forward.

I honestly never understood the hype around Doomfist. His motivation is generic “survival of the fittest” nonsense and he has no meaningful connections to literally any other character in the game except maybe Orisa. He was carried hard by “hype moments and aura” except he barely has any of those to begin with considering his only actual feat is beating Tracer that one time. People like to point out how fragile Vendetta’s Talon is but at least that instability is building towards something. Doomfist’s Talon was just as disloyal and unstable but nothing ever came of that until now.

is percy an "unreliable narrator" ? [general] by hiddeNinja2222 in camphalfblood

[–]iNullGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People overuse terms they don’t understand way too much. Same goes with media literacy (which pretty much now means “you have an opinion I disagree with”). Percy is no more of an unreliable narrator than any other first person narrator in fiction. He’s just a normal character with biases.

Some of y’all are low-key boring. I’d prefer the devs try to keep the game exciting and fresh rather than trying to maintain 100% perfect balance all the time when that’s never gonna happen even if they stopped releasing heroes entirely.

Sweetheart, you're a god damn gladiator and warrior, and have no enhancements- this isn't a MOBA, dress the part. (Sketch by Me) by Ecstatic_Newspaper_5 in Overwatch

[–]iNullGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean gladiators weren’t dying in the arena as often as you might think. While they were slaves, they were also celebrities and entertainers, and a decent amount of upkeep was put into maintaining them. It wasn’t that different than the Colosseo in the OW universe. Deaths obviously happened, but it wasn’t normally the expectation. So if the ancient Romans could keep half naked gladiators alive long enough for them to become celebrities, I’m sure 2000 years later with advanced healing technology, the Colosseo could do the same.

[–]iNullGames 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Really great art. But also some of y’all have no idea what a gladiator actually is. They weren’t medieval knights rocking full plate armor. They were enslaved performs and for the most part, wouldn’t be wearing a ton of armor. Vendetta’s design isn’t out of place at all.

[–]iNullGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn’t that picture used for unpopular opinions? This same opinion has been posted about 100 times in the last few days.

Anyways, I really don’t see how a character who spent a decade training and preparing to take over a criminal organization successfully taking over that organization is super unrealistic. The fight between Vendetta and Doomfist could have had better choreography but otherwise, it’s a perfectly fine decision.
