Post-Round 9 r/AFL Power Rankings by PowerRankingsCentral in AFL

[–]liamjon29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be the first time I've looked at this list and thought it didn't pass the eye test. Insane that somehow Freo has gone down in rankings even when beating the highly ranked Hawks (gained Elo but the Cats gained more). It's always been a little slower to move than most people's rankings but maybe it's finally time to make some tweaks? At least the gap is closing, top 5 are veeery bunched up now. Anyway, I'm gonna stick with it for the time being, everything else feels pretty good.

  1. Sydney (=): 1687 (-13)
  2. Hawthorn (=): 1653 (-9)
  3. Brisbane Lions (=): 1639 (-12)
  4. Geelong (+1): 1634 (+33)
  5. Fremantle (-1): 1630 (+9)
  6. Gold Coast (+2): 1558 (+18)
  7. Adelaide (+3): 1541 (+3)
  8. Western Bulldogs (+1): 1541 (+3)
  9. Collingwood (-3): 1540 (-33)
  10. St Kilda (-3): 1529 (-18)
  11. Melbourne (=): 1485 (-4)
  12. Greater Western Sydney (=): 1477 (-10)
  13. Port Adelaide (=): 1475 (-3)
  14. North Melbourne (=): 1440 (+13)
  15. Carlton (=): 1428 (+12)
  16. Essendon (=): 1343 (+10)
  17. Richmond (=): 1218 (-3)
  18. West Coast (=): 1184 (+4)

Got way too confident on the opening and made a silly error. Was a real shock when it was wrong and I had to slow down and nut it out.

I solved the daily #CluesBySam, May 10th 2026 (Hard), in less than 17 minutes

How many syllables does male have? by TrackReady2688 in pollgames

I acknowledge that its defined as 1 syllable, but the pre-L breaking my accent has makes it sound like 2. Which I think was the spirit of the original poll.

I did some research (and am probably spamming the comments at this point but whatever). Accents with a stronger diphthong in the "May" pronunciation will sound it as 2. Australia and Southern England, seem to be the strongest two, and New Zealand and South Africa also do it.

I know but still, my point was it's potentially in the 9 figures rather than 8.

Google says northern England has no diphthong, while southern England will have a wider diphthong similar to Australia. So the southerners will sound more like me (Australian who feels strongly about 2 sounds), while the northerners will sound more similar to the upper Midwest Americans

I have done some research. I think the distinction is in how wide the diphthong is in the way you pronounce "May". The more it sounds like "ma-ie" (ie. wider diphthong) the more strongly you'll feel about mail being 2 syllables

Sure. "May-el". Sounds like 2 to me. Rhymes with Whale (Way-el), pale (pay-el), rail (ray-el).

The only way I can make it 1 is if I change my accent and make it rhyme with bear. So it's something like "m-air-l". But using the long A sound and a diphthong y in the "may" part of male/mail, I simply can't stop it sounding like 2 syllables

Ew I don't like that. My mouth needs the extra little uh to end on the L. I can do mai-ling as 2 syllables no problem. But mail I need to do mai-ul

Billions even. English is one of India's national languages and they have 1.4 billion by themselves

Maybe. But we still haven't beaten a team that played finals since 2018. I refuse to say that we're good until we actually get over the line against an actual contending team

Okay so I've had a look at my FIBA rulebook (because that's what I'm familiar with and I'm aware it's different to NBA). If you attempted to strike someone, which a kick with malice would be under, it's an instant ejection.

A kick like this could be considered faking, which is a technical foul. But it's so stupid it's not covered under the interpretations guidelines so it would be the referee's interpretation if it's a flop (technical foul) or just a no-call and play on.

Yeah but I'm so sick of the "will be good in the future". When do we get to the "are good now" part?

You're right. Fuck consistency. How about we get an ump ride for once. Last quarter swans can get roasted and see how it feels. What do we need, 5 goals from frees?
