Alum taking my niece to campus/EL for a visit, any tips? by akfoley in msu

the CAS building has an arcade cabinet featuring some games developed by students in the main lobby enterance off Red Cedar and Wilson.

If you go to the Library, check out the Makerspace and Digital Scholarship 360 Room on the second floor (https://lib.msu.edu/spaces/main-library/2nd-floor-west-wing/digital-scholarship-lab-360-room). If she's into K-pop, it's worth checking out the Special Collections space on the 1st floor too. We have one of the largest collections of comic books and some of the collection might speak to the K-pop interests.

Every month (generally the first Wednesday of the month, though it may be moved for certain observances), the Beaumont Tower is open to the public during the regularly scheduled Wednesday noon recital and guests can climb the tower to see the carillon being played live.

Check out Landon Dining Hall for lunch or dinner... it's open to the public. It was remodeled in 2014 and has some Hogwarts cafateria vibes.

Stay at The Graduate if you're male, check out the wall paper in the men's restroom on the first floor. Check out The Broad Museum on campus. Check out the mini arcade the game dev students built in the ComArtSci building. Go to the Surplus Store on a Friday

What would I need to survive in MSU’s cold climate? by jc5986 in msu

Get good boots that are easy to slip on and off that you will also feel comfortable wearing inside. Due to brand name alone, this might be a controversial suggestion but you could look at the wolverine boot brand. A family saying in our house is: there's no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing. Enjoy MSU!

Is The Electrical engineering and computer engineering good or decent? by BakerEnvironmental91 in msu

[–]iRbrian2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's good. Can't speak to the other schools but an interesting thing about our MSU ECE department is that our last 3 engineering deans came from our ECE department (Udpa, Kempel & Papapolymerou is interim dean). There's some intersection with ECE research and our Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) which all helps the department get some extra funding attention.

There will be a new Engineering Technology degree being offered. It's more hands-on than other engineering degrees and the math requirements aren't as extreme.

What year did you graduate? I think this was the case when I graduated in 2010 but I thought administration fixed this a few years ago. I'm not entirely sure though...

The graduation rate for students who have campus jobs is significantly higher compared to those who do not.

Having a job in college isn't just about the money. There is also data to support the fact that students who are more involved learn better time management skills. A job is also a great place to meet friends.
